NEOGEO Emulator for PSP v0.2 Released *Update*

Ó

NEOGEO I've been reading the comments on every NEO-GEO article, and I'm quite surprised that some people wouldn't actually want to know of the developments surrounding this emulator. I respect everybody's opinion, but personally, I think to help boost the developers spirit and the community's as a whole as well, there must be some sort of positive reinforcement provided. So whether it be a tiny bugfix or a major update, I think it's worth an article (and in NEO-GEO's case even two, because they work so fast). After laying all that out, here's the latest NEO-GEO release from NJ!

Should I even say who did the marvelous job of translating the changelog? Thanks a bunch Jeff Chen!

Changelog:
  • Save/load state function added.
  • There is not enough memory to compress the state data.
  • When loading a state, if the BIOS in the data is different from the one you are using, the BIOS settings will be automatically updated into the state data. The SRAM data will also be returned when saving.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented kf2k3pcb from running. This is simply a miss. All the games that needed this support to run are now completely supported.

Update: NJ has released a quick fix on his emulator dealing with a bug wherein the clone set won't start. The download link is below:

# my problem with these articles...Guest 2006-07-11 05:02
I guess my problem stems from the fact that the author of these articles makes it such a big hubub that the developer is making fixes. Statements like "wow, these guys work fast!" don't really encourage me when they are just bug fixes. The fact of the matter is that the developer made a release, found a bug, and released a patch. And while I definitely value the developer's work and his commitment to releasing updates, it just seems a little odd to me that the author here makes it seem like a HUGE deal for _each_ bugfix.

Has anyone used this program yet? Is it a good emulator for speed, video, sound, etc? What % of ROMs work?

I haven't used any of the older versions yet because I have been into SNES emulation...

# TO LAZY TO TRYGuest 2006-07-11 06:43
I'LL TRY THIS TILL PEOPLE CONFIRM MANY ROMS WORKING FULL SPEED. AT LEAST AS FAST AS THE NEOGEO CD EMU.

IT'S TOO MUCH TROUBLE GETTING THIS EMU TO WORK.

it's really not that hard, keep the bios and the rom zipped when putting it in the roms folder.....use the converter to get the game's cache and put that in the cache's file, which is also kept zipped.....the emulator runs a lil choppy at first but after a few seconds...it plays sweet.....i got metal slug 2 and kof 98 and they both run pretty well.....look forward to playing garou on this, but if it only all games worked with sound....

Once again great job NJ...Took your time with the update this time i see...hehe

For the people wondering what games work and at what speed...All the games i tried (SVC Chaos, KOF series, all Metal Slugs except for the bootleg 6, fatal fury and Blazing Star) all run at full speed with the occasional slow down when it has to read from the memory stick...All Metal slugs work but 3-5 have no sound...Metal slug 2 has sound but its very laggy...

Overall this is the best emulator for the PSP...It doesnt even feel like an emulator at times especially during SVC...Its that damn smooth...The only thing it lacks is sound in big games...Hopefully NJ can figure out a way to fix that...

Odds are if it wont covert you probably have the wrong romset...You need MAME 0.106 roms...

# uhhhh wtf ?Guest 2006-07-11 09:36
Man these authors are retarded. Good work on the releases, but do you think we care about the technical details ? Tell us how to get this damn thing working so we can give you feed back. No point in releasing a *****in software if you don't even know where to get the 0.106 Roms ..... Every site I have looked at says they are selling them. Im not trying to buy something that should be free. Why don't you release the BIOS ROM with the Emulator ? These people always release their homebrew with missing things. How the hell do they expect us to get it working. Magically pull a bios out of my ass ?

@25: Don't be an idiot. Hosting BIOS files is illegal, and therefore, including such a file would put both the author and PSPUpdates at risk of being sued. Emulation is a legal grey area to begin with, so it's up to you to do the research and find the ***** if you want it for free. You could always buy a LEGIT Neo Geo cab if you want to play these games, but you're trying to get something for nothing, so don't expect it to be served up on a silver platter. For that matter, I found two Neo Geo BIOS downloads after 5-10 minutes of Googling, so I know you're not trying hard enough.

"Should be free," eh? *****ing kids nowadays. Back in the day, Piracy used to be an art form--you had to bust ass and learn from square one if you wanted things without paying for em. Now we have kids like this claiming the world owes them something. Sad state of affairs indeed.

# I'm not a noob I know how to install emulators.Guest 2006-07-11 17:55
I did do research. I have the neogeo.zip I have the uni-bios v2.1 zipfile. I cant find the ROM sets tho. I don't knwo which site has the right roms that work on this thing. Also where am I supposed to place that uni-bios file ? what directory ? Is the Uni-Bios file supposed to be zipped ?or does it need to be in the neogeo.zip and I repack it ?

Reply

# 33Guest 2006-07-11 20:13
The uni-bios needs to be in the neogeo.zip...Also the neogeo.zip needs to be placed in the roms folder...

As for the roms, do a google search for mame roms...The roms need to be mame 0.106 compatible...Trust me, they're not hard to find...

# So why i was having troubleGuest 2006-07-12 04:14
Basically i was doing everything right except was having trouble with using the converter since the zip files where named wrong. If yourhaving this porblem easy way to figure out what the name should be is to go to,

E:\PSP\GAME\nge psp\music\en on your psp for english games and E:\PSP\GAME\nge psp\music\jp for japan games. This still means you have to know what the game that your looking for is called, but in my case it was simply Metal Slug 1---> zip was called mslug[1].zip hould be just mslug.zip, cheers may or may not help people

# maybe it me but...Guest 2006-07-12 06:36
Hmm maybe it just my psp but I was having a lot of trouble getting the BIOS to work properly. Got two of them from different sites, the program kept saying BIOS not found though i clearly put them in the right spot, so after sitting around and having too much time on my hands i found i had to change the file called ngepsp.ini so that instead of showing 0 BIOS I changed it to 1 and everything bloody works know, glad this emu is good other wise i would be one cranky camper after all that work :P

You cant have sf3 fool.

This is neogeo emu,and SF3 is cps3/naomi.

Last i knew, that hasnt been emulated yet.

Best bet is a dc emulator.
