Myth Busters Take on PSP Homebrew |

While there is quite a bit of information out there regarding some of the more popular PSP Homebrew software and games, a few in specific have eluded us during our quest for PSP Homebrew. Many a night have we sat mulling over old texts and documentations, searching high and low for these unusual softwares of untold entertainment. At the end of the day we drag our weary selves back into our cabins, and type away through the blurry vision and lag spikes, taking all our notes and presenting you with the skinny. What's the real deal with these apparently remarkable yet perplexing homebrew which end up having little or no substance?
Back in July of 2005 "it all started". However one could trace things back possibly much longer that that (maybe even to the beginning of time). We were not around that far back so we will just take your word for it. Around this time we started seeing a number of fake downgraders which all promised to rescue you from the boredom of version 1.50 since at the time homebrew was not supported on any PSP besides 1.00. We all know that during this time Sony's PSP was also struggling somewhat due to a lack of games. These forces no doubt had a direct relationship with PSP Gamers attempting to explore homebrew. Not implying that homebrew is "less than" retail games in any way, they are undoubtedly "cheaper" aka free (most of the time) and quite entertaining. A select few of us at QJ have bought our PSP's just for great homebrew experience alone.
Soon to jump on the bandwagon was the 2.0 Downgrader. I imagine many of you will remember this as the 2.00 PSP's had started becoming more widely available at this time. Many 2.0 gamers now realized they were to be suck in the same situation that 1.50 owners had previously experienced where their love for their new found system was diminishing after realizing they would be unable to play homebrew. Yoshihiro had worked on finding an exploit but a mass genocide of PSP's resulting in keeping many of those who would attempt "random downgraders online" away from any such nonsense. The entire "fake" 2.0 downgrader issue was one of the most dramatic scenes the PSP has gone through. Soon after this had started to calm down, and some thought all hope was lost, the MPH Downgrader was released and gave PSP Gamers with newer firmware the chance at full access to their PSP once again.
Two weeks later an unknown PSP Patcher was released on the net. Sadly PSP Team's featured "Patcher" was in fact a PSP Bricker as discovered by Skylark. Soon after this, a supposed "UnBricker" which was said to "unbrick the accidentally bricked PSP, no matter what the reason and version it was." We know, of course, that this is not in fact reality. Homebrew hits on 2.0 and now the updating drama begins. Three firmwares later we sit at 2.6 with a new "2.6 Crack Update" which is supposed to allow you to have full features of 2.6 just by updating to the new "custom" firmware. After a few quick checks this too is found to have no substance. Downgrading your PSP from a older firmware which provides more support is mighty popular, why wouldn't it be? So members at eBay had their round at selling another "Downgrader" which was found to be a bricker as well. I think some negative feedback is in order. Then to round it all off someone posted another fake downgrader, but this time masquerading under the name of respected developer Fanjita. Obviously a low blow, tricking users by giving them a false sense of security by manipulating the authors name. Fanjita posted the news on his website that this was indeed fake and he was not involved in the production of the bricker.
A PSOne Emulator is an idea that isn't quite new for the PSP, however from time to time we get new screens of the supposed PSOne Emulator Interface from places on the web. Then as time progressed, more information surfaced about the PSOne Emulator for the PSP (official and unofficial) as well as a number of homebrew PSOne Emulators. Lets not forget the attractive but make believe PSP to Xbox 360 interface. While I like to dream big, I dont think that production was based in the plane of reality. Then, most recently, there was rumors of "PSxxx," a supposedly hard coded PS1 emulator that was capable of running FFVII... even WE had the sense not to post about that one! But even the most brilliant minds at QJ get fooled sometimes, which brings us to...
Now to conclude our mental trip back into the land of make believe, we end with the Full Speed Nintendo 64 Emulator. D'oh! I knew you were waiting for this one. After many weeks of unreliable and incoherent communications between the developer ZoMbi146 I will have to call shenanigans on his port of UltraHLE. The project itself could no doubt be accomplished by a determined developer however ZoMbi146 continually delay "without a doubt" evidence to support his emulator existed. Eventually the "updates" turned into excuses then finally the emails just stopped. Bad Zombi and bad QJ! We've got our fire retardant suits on, so break out the flame torches! Our sincerest apologies for any destroyed hopes and dreams, please keep the rioting and property damage to a minimum. And be careful with those torches and pitchforks - it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye!
So there you have it a somewhat comprehensive background on the realities and the delusions, the good the bad and the ugly. and just for future reference, new rumored programs will not be reported on unless there is substantial evidence of its existence.

I saw the words "Myth Busters," but I don't see anything regarding them after I skimmed through the article. Now, I'm definitely not reading through this whole thing as it is an extremely long article (and it's an "opinion & analysis" one), but why would you make "Myth Busters Take on PSP Homebrew" the title?
This is HARDLY an update on anything at all.
This site really goes down the crapper when there aren't enough "real" updates.
This is crap, and a waste of my time and your time, and it's a waste of space on the server. The only thing worse than these "updates" are the "updates" on the "games" such as Starcraft LUA and Halo 2d LUA, which, as we all know, are not anything but a background picture and a picture on top.

Picked "Myth Busters Take on PSP Homebrew" since this article is an backwards look at the releases (and non released) homebrew that was supposed to be real or were thought to work hypothetically at the time, but did not.
And since the N64 emu is fake, we just busted that myth...
So this is you apologizing about UltraHLE? Good way of hiding it. You could just have an apology on its own and saved us the spam before hand.

IMO this excuse should've been here weeks ago. And shouldn't have all the lame things that OTHER people did wrong before it so it looks like QJ isn't that bad.

so QJ apologizes now after all the attention they got from the full speed emulator and all the hits to the site , making it more people that enter and click the ads and make QJ money , wow , the article should have said: "We QJ net are sorry for posting this article to have more visitors for our site and more people clicking ads and talking about QJ so the site gets more popular which was our intention" , that honest apology I would have accepted :). Anyways tomorrow I'm gonna release a full speed working emulator for the psp to emulate N-gage roms which I'm coding so beleive me , it's the truth , BELEIVE , and I'll be the first person to rip wii games before the wii is released so... BELEIVE ME, I wanna have attention NOW! lol ( obvious sarcasm but maybe a few people were dumb eneough to beleive I was telling the truth , anyways I probably wasn't funny cuz I never am and I'm lame and when I make up lies people figure it out easily , way to easily but at least it's a try , and I'm writing too much in parenthesis so I'll stop , see I can't be funny ).
I enjoyed this article, I liked taking a walk down memory lane with all the drama that has befallen the psp.

Personally I found this article quite interesting... I bought my PSP over a year after it came out, so it's interesting to learn a little history about hombrew and whatnot. I'm also happy that the people that run this site are taking steps to improve it, and will be more selective in what they report as homebrew news in the future:P

ULTRA HLE IS CLOSED SOURCE AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN. I was fooled, just like everyone else, though. *sigh* Let's continute to support Stormin' Norman and Daedalus. Developers need our encouragement. QJ: DON'T tantalize us with the prospect that one of our most beloved TV shows would feature our niche little scene!

Damn, you beat me to it, PSMonkey. It seemed almost certain at this point that PSPU was just going to ignore the matter and act like they didn't do anything wrong, but finally they've fessed up to it, and are at least claiming that they're going to hold themselves to a higher standard from now on.
That said, this article was obviously written to mask the fact that it was written solely as a way of apologizing...but who really cares.

Well said and that is why the other post went up originally. I'm quite sure everyone has made up their own opinion on devhook by now for example. I fought to get that stuff posted as news and a part of QJ. Now we are seeing new updates posted on the main page instead of tucked away in the forum, its great.
I believe everything should be posted thats related to the PSP or homebrew scene and interesting. I'm even excited every time I see "another stupid Lua port" because I know thats another developer with creative ideas entering the homebrew scene. If hot new games and homebrew fueling your love for the PSP, what is?

Flai, what you just read is my responce. In addition, you must realize that what I was writing was in chronological order from the beginning of my knowledge of all "fakes" on the PSP. Theres nothing to hide. I believe the N64 Emulator is fake now. In addition I would never post news with the intention of leading readers to believe something that I did not. I would rather not talk (or in this case write) if they weren't the words and ideas coming out of my own mouth.

I could have updated the old article, or posted a new and hopefully more interesting one (then just a tiny "its fake". Either way I told everyone I would update them when I heard something. I had waited awhile and heard nothing, so it was something that needed to be said.

After reading about 20 posts, i got the idea that everybody was pissed off because PSPU doesn't post enough about homebrew.... to be honest, i think ive been kept pretty darn informed about it all.
I know one thing for sure, PSPU wont post anything reguarding piracy, so everybody who complains about that, you're on the wrong forums, go google info about that somewhere else.
Im just saying... you guys who complain that there arent enough updates are VERY anal, for the past 3 weeks the psp scene has been AWESOME, i went from 1.5 to 1.0 then from 1.0 to 2.6 then back to 1.5 using info about the downdater that i got from here. Who really cares if they post some crap inbetween. the site belongs to them. pay some of their bills, then complain.
As i help my dad run a business, i realize there are slow seasons. when i see no news about the psp scene for weeks... i realize that the psp is just in its slow season itself. For a site like PSPU, they take what they can get, and if they dont get much, they post what they can.
Im not suggesting to complain to the devs... but if updates are slow, its because they are slow, give em time, stuff will happen.
You're all dreaming if you think there will ever be a full-speed N64 emulator. It's been done on the PC for many years now, but requires a P4 for 100% speed. They came CLOSE on the xbox, but it's still not as good as the PC. But the PSP, com'on. Not unless you've got people with perfect knowledge of the kernel and who know how to write optimized code. And even then, 100%? speed? Not likely.
Probably won't get a full-speed GBA emulator either since it's a 32-bit device as well (ya, n64 was basicallt 32-bit). 16-bit emulation is do-able (Genesis, SNES, etc)... but above that is going to require more hardware than the PSP is packing.
I just read the article and the title threw me off but for all you people out there complaining that the title is misleading, thats kind of what the article is about, being deceived. So when you think about it the title is doing just as the fake downgraders etc. do, but thats what I think anyways.

The article itself has some good parts, but mostly its just guesses into the future and has nothing to do with the allready misleading title that you stole from a TV show (Guess what...)

Thank you QJ for finally bringing to light that ZoMbi lied to us. Hopefully this will lower the amount of people *****ing about Strmn not coming out with a full speed emu.

this is sad every blames jamie for getting the news out to them true or not its not his falut and as for ZoMbi146 let him have his 15 mins of fame and move on cuz i have a feeling that this is going to be the most attention hes gunna get. We should focus on what StrmnNrmn has accomplished and if you read his blog http://strmnnrmn.blogspot.com/ you would see his got quite a bit of speed inprovement.

I do have a working emulator that runs mario 64 at full speed. I wasn't responding because i was on vacation, and when i got back today i get all these flamers that dont appreciate S'hit. So i have desided to keep the emulator to myself. Too bad I'll probably give you a video just to tease you.
