My QJ: Firmware 3.00, "hopefully" released soon |

Now, as I'm sure many of you may have seen, there were pictures flying around the PSP community during E3 showcasing the 'almighty' PSP firmware 3.00. The estimated release date was October, and I'm being very optimistic in hoping that it will be coming out soon.
Contrary to this, there have been rumours flying around that 3.00 won't be released until the PS3 is available in Japan, as 3.00 is quite heavily based around PS3-PSP connectivity (apparently, some of the core files for this connectivity were slyly put in firmware 2.80) so we may not even see it until mid-November.
I personally can not wait for 3.00 as I was always a big fan of PS1 games and the PS1 emulation should, theoretically, be perfect (let's face it, we were all impressed when Kaz played Ridge Racer 1 at E3 on the psp), so here's hoping that it shall be released REAL soon, as the community may expand further due to the additional capabilities being crammed into 3.00. *hype begins*

I'm excited, although I'm sure I won't upgrade. I'm anxious to see what features there will be. In another way though, I'm dreading the release. I'm expecting a rish of posts the following day from 3.00 users who regret upgrading and are complaining that it needs to be hacked. 2.71 was bad enough, I can just imagine how many more there will be for 3.00.
Considering everything we'll be getting in 3.0, I wont complain one bit. People who upgrade know what theyre getting, and I personally have enjoyed every legit firmware update (ones that just "patch security arent my thing).

I hope this gets postponed as much as possible. There are too many games I want to play on my PSP before this update is released. GTA VCS as an example.

Not until AFTER Vice City Stories releases! If 3.0 comes out before it, it'll be like 2.0 was for LCS and we wont be able to play it on 1.5 PSPs for a while. Even if VCS requires a 2.81 update, itll be easier to crack than 3.0 Althought I wont midn 3.0 AFTER VCS lol, wouldnt mind seeing what it has in store, but im sure it wont be out until ps3 is launched since itll probably include ps3 communication system built in

Why PSPUpdates is bigging up a firmware that simply makes it harder for people to use homebrew is a mystery to me...
Personaly i think that we will see a 2.90 then 2.91 before we see the 3.00. I hope this isnt the case but im not getting myself too amped about 3.00 just to be let down by a secruity patch in 2.9
People have updated willingly to every firmware, yet there has always been a bunch of complainers who want the firmware to be hacked within the day.
When has there ever been a non-x.x1 firmware that is just a security update? Besides, what would be the need; 2.81 hasn't been cracked yet.
i remember having 2.6 with the GTA eLoader playing some games was fun. 2.7 with flash came along and i upgraded. worst mistake ever! that is untill the downgrader came out. i wont make that mistake again. if and when v3 comes out im going to wait for a hack. 1.5 is still the best
I realy look forward to it, not because I am upgrading. But because they can hack it so we can emulate it and use all the features (I mean deal with it ISO,CSO,DAX loading is way better than a PS1 emulator) But i do want the emulator and play Tombi FF8 etc.

i cant see there being any improvement with the 3.0 firmware, wow it might enable you to play a ps1 emulator, but your giving up all your iso;s and homebrew capability to play games that are graphically inferior. and like Raz said when it turns out to be a security upgrade. there are going to be so many people all over the country laughing and taking the piss out all of you's for being retarded enough to upgrade

Ebay won't be selling PS3s and stuff this time. In an article QJ put up yesterday, they said they don't want to have it turn out like last year when people bought 360s but never got them, so they aren't allowing people to sell PS3s on eBay this time. At least, that's what the article seemed to say to me.
The GBA emulator was never even made perfect, was it? Last time I tried it, it was running at low framerates and stuff.

Cos I have ~33 GBA roms on my emulator and it runs at about 90% speed at 0 frame skip. Only 4-6 roms need 1/2 frame skip to run at 95-100% speed.

It could be a major jump. Like 1.52 --> 2.00 (Most likly) Don't think sony is going to ***** around with that. They want as many people as possible moving to the official firmware out as soon as possible.

Why not upgrade to this firmware? I'm lovin' the firmware rather than using DevHook which every time I have to Cold restart I have currupted DevHook Files. (2.71SE-A has almost 100% of the homebrew abilities.)
Chances run high that VCS was delayed specifically so they could implement 3.0 syscalls into the code. Sucks of course, but if you ran Take Two, you'd do the same.
if 3.0 is as great as everyone says it is then you should keep your 1.5 and buy a new psp for 3.0 . i highly doubt 3.0 will be able play all ps1 games flawlessly. it wil play just just a handfull at a time and you will propbably have to by them in the form of UMD. do you people think that s0ny will let you rip you ps1 disks into ISO's . I doubt it highly. it will be cracked eventually like everything else is but not right away. so all of you whiners please STFU!

I looked at it on my hex editor and it is just a modified version of the 2.0 downgrader. That's why it doesn't work.

The PS1 emulator will act much like the Wii Virtual Console. There'll be a specific PSP site that you go to, you pay with points or a credit card, and you download the games you want. It'll be a specific, proprietary file type that only the Sony PS1 Emulator recognizes.

Homebrew is cool, but with homebrew come the loaders. ISO's are so bad for this community, and for the developers, and for the future of all potential PSP games. I'm guessing with the exception of for super slow loading games like Midnight Club, that only one in one maybe thousand people actually make a "backup" of their UMD games for "legit" purposes. Everyone else is just a thief. Sony is in serious trouble if they can't catch up with Microsoft XBOX 360 lead (outside of Japan). If XBOX takes over the gaming world, and Microsoft takes contol of the world with more Predatory, Anti-Competitive tactics, then there will be no more Playstations. The point is... upgrade. Buy some games. If you must keep homebrew, go out (or save up) and buy a new PSP to support Sony. Buy some games too. It's really going to be a shame if there is no more Sony and no more Playstation. Developers are already looking elsewhere to dedicate their resources because they know that their games can be easily hacked by our community. I just can't imagine being stuck with Bill Gate's flaming racing simulator because he put playstation under. No More Gran Turismo ??? What will I do then ???
No sadly isos will not work because the games sony is going to release will have an encyption on them that will allow them to boot. But on one of the firmware timelines it says "memorystick boot" so i think we will find our way around that.
There is video rss channel in 2.8 but it is only download because they want to make money on their location free player.
I bet you sony will make the games have mac address id on them so they only work on one psp.

i think that people should buy original games but there are places that isnt easy to buy ...here on brazil we pay like U$120 for one game...3games=1PSP ...the first game i bought was lumines and i really hated this game.....i might upgrade with only one purpose:metal gear1 and portable ops (im posting from the psp)

To that proprietary file type thing: Watch the crazy hacker gurus come up with a converter that switches them into ISOs. Hehe it'll even be funnier if you can just change the filename in Windows to "____.ISO" and it'll work. XD

Can someone give me a link to ANYWHERE that it gives a detailed description of a PS1 emulator being released with firmware 3.0? I've always heard people talk about, and talk about, but that's all it is, people talking about. Can I have a sure-fire link to a resourceful page that explains that a PS1 emulator is coming out?

As I said earlier, it will not be a security patch. 1) 2.81 is safe, why patch something that doesn't need a patch? 2) If there -is- a security patch, it will be 2.82, not 2.9 or 3.0.

psp sucks.. plain and simple.. very few good games. Homebrew is cool but not worth shelling out that kind of money when you could go buy one of the linux handhelds. Plus dealing with all the firmware updates and crap. seriously tho' take a look at the game catalog for psp.. really about 80% of it is pure CRAP. the DS has so many more good games and still has alot of awesome homebrew and its cheaper. But i think ps1 emulation would save the psp. I know for sure I would buy one if it really can support all ps1 games. It would then be worth the money too me. I loved ps1, So many incredible games. Would just be the ***** if you could have that portable.
