Yep, the PSP is finally getting some much-needed RPG loving, and thanks to Famitsu, we once again have new info on the latest RPG titles coming to the PSP: a port of the first Final Fantasy game as well as its aptly-misnomered sequel, Final Fantasy II.

Both Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition and Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition, which are set to be released in Japan this year, come with the usual new graphics upgrades that ports routinely undergo. A few content enhancements are also reportedly in the works, and we'll be sure to keep updating you guys as soon as we get more details.

The principal elements of both games will reportedly be taken from the GBA title Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls. Well, that's pretty much it. For your Final Fantasy fix, check out the magazine scans featuring both games below. Don't forget to keep checking back here at QJ for more updates.

oi, here in germany, we have some trouble with "killergames" cause there were some guys, which killed poeple in ther old schools... and now our government says "killergames" are the problems (such as counterstrike and so on). But now, there was an accident, two guys killed a woman and her husband and kidnapped their daughter... and teh game that is the problem this time? FINAL FANTASY! becaus there are "hostile" - scenes... weird world...

please...

Basically we are getting port after port after port. The first 2 Final Fantasies wern't that great to begin with. If your going to give old Final Fantasies to the PSP... Just do 4 - 6, the ones before it are bleh.

bahahaha

freaking nazi's making people only play games there gov thinks is alright to play might as well bann people thinking i mean who know some one might be thinking about playing FF1 O.o then rape his best friends wife!

big meat sandwich

This whole fiasco is a problem. These games ARE good. But they were already released for GBA. Now GBA has no load time...and is probably 1/4 of the price of this game...and is playable for free w/ psp emulation lol. Granted, the audio quality on GBA sucks, it still gets the job done. If they revamped the battle system into a Star Ocean type thing, it just might own. Rent, don't buy. Or better yet, just download the ISO and skip the load time.

cow

you got FF1 for Nes got FF1 for GBA got FF1 for psx got FF1 for wonder swirl or what ever that thing is called and they can all be emulated on the psp
by - 2007-01-17 13:20:06
/sigh

there's also a FF1 for the mobile phones in Japan. Goddammit why can't they just make a 3D remake!? Why does the DS get a 3D FF classic and the 10 times more powerful PSP gets crappy 2D???

Remove the second image?

Just some advice from someone who can read Japanese: Remove the second, middle image with the myriad of screenshots with the writing overlayed on top. Whoever posted that image criticizes Square (not Square-Enix) for their attempts to cash-in on remakes on portables. I would imagine that most reputable news sites wouldn't want to unknowingly bash a game company, even if it's in another language :)

'Cause

@ SE annoys me. How else they would milk fans with ports?,Duh. Well we recibe CC as well so no biggy. Yet some Fanboys claim this is ownage for the PSP,some how getting support from SQ is ownag3. Weird world indeed.

Oi

Thank you! I do believe that FF6 was INGENIUS. Of course, those "FF Fans" who's probably only played either 7 or 10 wouldn't know :P

READ THIS

THIS GAME HAS EXACTLY THE SAME GRAPHICS THE SAME SOUND AND THE SAME CUTSCENES AS FINAL FANTASY I AND II ANTHOLOGY ON PS1(USE POPSTATION INSTEAD)

........

This sucks, we want new original games Square!
by - 2007-01-17 16:31:31
why

would you want new original square games? the newer SE games like FFXII are pure garbage. Plus the character designs for their games suck big fat balls now. FF1 is the best of them all, i'm glad they're porting it .

glad to see it

I hope it’s not a direct port of ps1 but if so owell For the peeps that don’t do ISO's or emus this might be a great thing for them as most ps1 games look great on a PSP as they look like crap on my 56" finished ff7 on my 52 and man cant remeber it looking that bad lol owell don’t get me wrong lol I still play dragon warrior on NES on my big screen so graphics aren’t #1 on my list lol Back to topic I think it’s a good thing but yes would be nice to see new games from square instead them trying to make another $ off same game once again Still want to see an ff7 remake that game deserves to be beautiful
by Amish.Gramish - 2007-01-17 18:36:24
I can't wait to play them...

Because I have only played the Japanese versions on ROMs, so I didn't know what the crap was happening!!!!!
by Liquidsnakes - 2007-01-17 20:55:48

by Shatterdome - 2007-01-17 21:04:29
Yeah..

Next will be people killing beause they are frustrated that they cannot play the video games they want...then the gov will be *****ed....oh well, suppose Germany is just that kinda country...
by Shatterdome - 2007-01-17 21:08:17
To bad I was smart...

and also bought a DS, so i've played and finished both of these "Remakes"...not gonna do it again on PSP.... *waits for FF7 remake for psp*
by - 2007-01-17 21:29:03
These 2 games again?

We need an updated Chrono Trigger, not 2 games that have come out on 3 different systems already.
by - 2007-01-18 03:58:23
actually...

4-6 have already been ported. To the GBA (read: so I doubt they'd port them to the PSP as well).
by - 2007-01-18 07:04:51
Ports

So many damn ports for the psp, why not some new games? Guess thats why its called the Playstation Port-able... =\
by - 2007-01-18 13:48:11
WHY Squenix, why?!??

Why port a mediocre GBA game to PSP? FF3 remake from the DS would make more sense, since that's at least newer and has 3D graphics
