I would, however, like to know if the new digital era is going to effect release dates in a positive way. Think of it, every UMD has a simple .iso on it, and I'm sure many disc veterans and ISO enthusiasts know of the long a tedious work to burn these iso files onto discs, for thousands of copies for a release date, so if it's a digital age, then games could be released much quicker and earlier no?
Ahwell, I'm still looking forward to PW, it's great to see a new MGS that I can actually buy since I have no PS3 (wait CNR, Rising is supposed to be released on 360 as well!). Ahwell, long live the PSP! Let the reign of PSP lived on through 2009 and on to 2010!

Do you actually know how original game, movie or music discs are produced? You really think that they all get burned?!
These discs get pressed in a huge factory. Burning them would not only be a way too tedious and expensive task, but would also render many copy prodections useless.
See wikipedia for info:

This is just for CD's, but I think you get the point.

However, I AM unaware of the process they take to place the game data ONTO the disc, not how the disc itself is produced. I'm thinking it's just like standard disc-burning where a disc is placed into a re-writable drive, the data is transferred onto the disc, and it is ejected like you would an MP3 disc or a DVD, but then again it's UMD so who knows.

And it's not a good idea to fully rely on digital downloads. Case in point: I found a bunch of my classic GB games last year and I'm loving going through them again. If they were DD games then they would need authorising with a server, if that server is no longer there (hi Dreamcast) then the game is unplayable.
No thanks. I'll stick to DD for my PC games and a few Wiiware/PSN/XBLA stuff. But incase Steam ever goes down I'll just replace the .exe's with cracked ones and carry on playing no problem at all :).
In short - don't rely on DD. Ever. It's a nice easy way to be fudged over by the developer or publisher.

I'm not even that big a fan of MGS to start with but it's just pulling me toward it! Let go of me D: you're too far off release!
