When it comes to advertising, Kevin Butler has done a stand up job for Sony and the PS3. But for the PSP, Sony's fictional VP that only does everything will not be the wise-cracking frontman. For that, there's Marcus Rivers.

Here's Kevin Butler hiring the new kid...

...and here's the new kid at work, also with his own phony job title.

Sony must be pretty desperate for PSP sales if they are using a black kid stereotype to advertise their product.

(I'm not a fanboy; I own a PSP and a DS. Also a PS3 & X360)

How do Sony advertise a dead handheld game (or lack of) console?

They hire a snot nosed brat who fails at trying to be cool, "hard" or funny and who is actually stupid enough to think that the PSP is actually worth buying or let alone worth playing!

This is a pathetic marketing campaign and the creators of these ads should be embarrassed and ashamed.

Yes and no about it. Yes Marcus is an annoying boy and the commercials are going to shit. When you talk about the PSP as being dead? Then that's where I laugh at you.

Of course I can't get you to buy or even try a PSP, I really have no reason to in the first place, but if you don't own the device or even played a modded one, then you have no idea what the crap you're talking about.

really
seriously

what about the This is living ads
which have FA reference to the ps3, apart from the logo at the end

(does contain, Yosemite Sam)

Anyway the psp could do with a new console
however, it is still way better than the DS, and every other handheld on the market, its just getting a bit stale

i agree we need psp2, but you came down a bit heavy

Marcus actually made his first debut in the movie, "Role Models" and was hilarious.

Your judging him based on his acting, which is decent for his age.

PSP games are good and somewhat well conceived. I'm a avid PSP player who has the power to play gameboy, sega, n64, ps1, nds, and of course homebrew games. Can your xbox do all this? :P

Yeah, for a while now. They called it the XBOX. Slightly less portable (lol) but yeah it could do all of that

No guys I am not hating on him because he is black but because the ads suck and he comes off an an arrogant idiotic douchebag

Also I have a PSP but was lucky (yes lucky i had an extremely hard time finding a buyer) enough to sell it off.

The PSP is dead there are only about 3 games worth buying (yet nobody even buys PSP games!) in the entire year so far.
Nintendo's 3DS LAUNCH lineup is far better than anything Sony have come up with for the PSP, yes a launch lineup is better than anything on the PSP.

I mean with these type of new edgy Commercials that sony spoutin', That's kinda the point they're trying to dig in with the actors

Personally I like the commercials. They showcase the good new stuff coming out for the psp in a comedic way, not poking fun at the psp console, but, as i see it, at the viewer. Forcefully stuffing down the goodness that some don't see in the console.

This very ad campaign has set Gamefaqs.com on fire. At one point, there were so many topics dedicated to this 'issue' that mods just started deleting them.

Why?

Because, even a 10-year old can recognise how obviously inappropiate and untimely 'dated' this ad campaign is. What is this, 1994?

Youung Marcus is not at fault here. He is just young actor trying to get as much work and facetime as he can to stay relevant and put some money in his pocket. And, im certain that he loves the PSP.

The fault is squarely at Sony Marketing.
The PSP machine is practically at a demise after the psp go. And, now with the upcoming Nintendo 3DS, the PSP will go the way of the Atari Lynx.

What PSP customers need right now is not shock value and a few gag laughs. We need to see a FULL LIBRARY of GAMES ON PSN. We need reassurance that the investment we made in sony's handheld was not in vain. We need ads showing us gameplay of NEW games on the system. Who cares who's the front man for this machine if the machine will be dead a year from now? What a waste of ad dollars.

If this is Sony's way of suggesting that the PSP is the little 'black sheep' of the Sony brand, then count me unimpressed. And, a little bit offended.

You haven't seen the launch lineup have you? Even a fanboy like you can agree that it looks pretty sweet!

But, I dis-agree with most people who say PSP is dead, they have a few great games coming out soon. But, I think what the psp needs is more budget titles. I'm too poor to afford alot of their games. It's cool how they cut the price of Motorstorm and LBP though, I might be getting those.

I don't know why everyone's whining about this. The kids funny, he'll do a fine job. Why would you criticize sony for trying to advertise their product? I wouldn't say its dead... yet, and Sonys trying to stop it from dying.

I'm just happy that Sony has bothered marketing the PSP at all. I am getting a bit sick of everyone saying it's a dead console, the games library this year has been as strong as the DS as far as I can see, even excluding the Japanese releases.

If Sony follow this up then that's fine with me. More games like Peace Walker, Persona 3, Valkyria, GOW, Hot Shots Tennis, Ace Combat et al and I'll be a happy bunny.

Oh,and QJ, knock off the bloody adverts! I'm sick of each page taking ages to load while my pop-up blocker goes nuts. Even reading this article I got redirected to something called China TV and couldn't get back here without closing the browser.

You're making the site unusable, show some sense and knock it on the head please.

Because we have these same douchebags that bash the system downloading the games.

If it's such a shitty system why are the AAA titles of ISOs and CSOs downloaded a million plus times?

Hypocrites. It's just their way to be thieves and push the blame somewhere else when the PSP isn't the system they want it to be solely because of them.

u guys need to shut up up about the kid. He is probably 10 times a better actor than u could ever be and u guys r just jealous that ur not in it. Also the PSP has only a few good games but if modded (not 4 games but homebrew)it is much better than any crap u could pull out with so just keep ur mouth shut u pricks and get along with ur life

So all you trolls consider the PSP dead and because of Marcus Rivers, it would be even worse?

Yes he is annoying, Yes he may not be that funny, Yes he does some unnecessary extra stuff, but the fact that no one is giving the PSP marketing attention and he knows the psp and what it needs got him the position next to Kevin Butler. AND don't compare him to Kevin dammit, please. We all know he is nowhere as good as him.

When you ignorant trolls see an awesome PSP exclusive trailer and say, "I want this on the PS3", It serves you fuckers right because even you want Monster Hunter for PS3. It's like a fanboy war between handheld and Console under the same gaming company.
You trolls have no good purpose in life and NEED TO DIE!
