Konami: Peace Walker is PSP-exclusive for friends and portablility |
Am sure you're all intrigued as to why Hideo Kojima decided to limit access to their new MGS title, Peace Walker, only to the PSP. You can all stop guessing now as to what was the logic behind it as Kojima Productions themselves addressed the issue in their latest podcast. Their reason:
We want people to go out and socialize with other people. You know physically to take your PSP with you, go to your friend's house and hang out together. Of course we could have done co-op, maybe, on PS3 or something like that. But whenever you do online co=op, that actually, in a way, kind of discourages people from playing together.
That was Sean Eyestone explaining the decision. But that's not all. He continues:
The other reason is just that we want people to take metal Gear with them wherever they go. This is a real hardcore, no holds barred Metal Gear game. It's the first time anything of this caliber has ever been done on the PSP. As always with Kojima Productions, we want to be the first and we are. So you got this great Kojima Productions game with great Hideo Kojima story in the palm of your hand that you can play with friends. And, really, what more can you ask for?
Yes, what more can you ask for indeed. That sounds like a well-thought out strategy from the Peace Walker team. Are you satisfied yet?

Monster hunter is
Yeah right, I believe you that it is a great game but.... PLZ GIVE US A INFRASTRUCTURE MULTIPLAYER please
The MH series is a great franchsie and Gameplay is awsome BUT NO *****ING STORY!!! aND THIS GAME HAS BOTH THATS ALL I CAN SAY
Then you won't go out and socialize. You will contain yourself in your dark room never leaving it playing online on what should be a portable game and you will be known as they would call it in Japan a Hikikomori. Barely anyone around me has a PSP in America this will probably only work in Japan where every other teenager has a PSP. WE LIVE IN DIFFERENT PLACES KONAMI our market isn't as saturated as Japans. Of course Sony can fix all of ad hoc game problems if they will just release Ad Hoc party in US already...
Well I can't say the same for others, but Where I live which is Brooklyn, New York, It is nigh impossible to find ppl with the same games in their PSP or find someone in the right age group range to play them with. And no one wants to go all out of their way half-way around the borough or city to find one with the same game to play with. It's a waste of time. Although it encourages socialization, it depends on where you live if you can make use of the Ad-Hoc feature or it becomes useless. Th@s why with infastructure, You have microphones to chat with and easy access to the internet where you can find loads of ppl to play with.
it dose suck if their is no infastructure. any of my friends that had a psp got it stolen or it broke. altho with out online play i wont get mad at people for cheating. i think its one thing to hack your psp but come on, i just cant stand people that make them selfs invincable on a multi player game online. it takes the fun out
What you explained in your comment was conveiences. Reliablity is reliability. If anything Ad-Hoc is more reliable as it is a direct connection and you don't have to go through the internet. So I think you just didn't choose your words wisely. And I live in bklyn as well and yeah it is kind of impossible and it is somewhat hard to play it outside as well cause where I live people get mugged for their PSP, iPhones and iPods especially on the train. Some of these people have no morals. I came off the train and into the train station and saw an old lady, a group of black guys(no racism true story) and a cop. I have no idea where the cop was hiding but apparently these group of black people mugged the old lady and the cop caught them.
That's a pointless thing for me. I live in the countryside in England, where am I going to find someone else to play a PSP game with? Nobody around me has one! Ah well. I guess I won't be using co-op. But even Pokemon DS, selling its trillionth game this weekend, I still don't see people playing that... And thats the most spotted handheld game! I guess this works in a perfect world where everyone has a PSP and this game. I really hope this isn't a cop-out now. I'd rather play through one perfectly formed MGS story (like a portable MGS1-4) than some co-op game where we all do jolly missions together. Don't ruin it.
Sorry Kojima Productions, I don't wanna go outside.
i think insfracture would be nice...but to encourage people to use Ad-Hoc...like give them more options with Ad-Hoc or extras or something... cause really tho, i dont have many friends with PSPs, and furthermore, those who play MGS (cause they are trash).... So its really not the socializing part, its just that Oklahoma is a piece of ish filled with mindless white people
jus asking, but are you by any chance vietnamese? i noticed anh....
I guess their marketing team doesn't realize that USA =/= Japan. We aren't all cramped and not everyone has a friggin' PSP. Some of my friends do have them, but most don't, since they had them stolen or just sold them since nothing good was coming out for them. If they leave out Infrastructure, I'll probably sell this after I beat it once or twice. I'm not gonna go on some trek to find other people who just happen to have a PSP and a copy of this game, and I'm not gonna pester my friends to buy this either. It's a good idea in theory, but you're not gonna change the whole world into becoming more sociable by pulling something like this, with a PSP game nonetheless.
