Handheld espionage in this MGS: Portable Ops video

You know what would really make Dark_Alex impostors cringe? People who could be really sneaky and snap impostor necks (or their keyboards) with one well placed strike. Of course, we're not those kinds of people. Not yet anyway.

Thanks to Hideo Kojima, new operations for budding tactical espionage experts are now in place. Yes folks, it's portable espionage action with Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. While we're waiting for the game to make its way onto store shelves, we can get some recon on the game. This video shows some of the gameplay innovations inherent to the Portable Ops version, such as the use of comrades to perform objectives and management of your own personal team of stealth operatives.

Of course, the staples are all here as well. Konami's bringing out the epic boss battles, the ninjas, the girly magazine distractions, and the undying cardboard box tactics. If that sounds like a plan for great action, then have fun watching the video.

Just remember: when your enemy is huddled over a girly magazine, they take longer to die from sniper shots. Not that it makes any sense, but they just do. Enjoy!

hell

wtf why does solid snake always get messed up first he is a change smoker then they made him in to a 80 year old man now they are giving him an eye patch WTF MAN!!! he was cool when he was in MGS and MGS:2. if they do give him a eye patch why dont they just turn off half the screen so its more realistic

Well...

Big Boss and Solid Snake are two entirely different people. For you to not realize this... well... I can tell the series might just be a little to intellectual for you. *SPOILERS I SUPPOSE* MGS3, and MGS:PO are Big Boss. In MGS3 it clearly shows that Ocelot shoots BB and the bullet grazes his eye, rendering it useless. Therefore, he wears an eyepatch in the second half of MGS3. MGS:PO is a direct sequal to MGS3, so it would be only reasonable to have him still have the same eye conditions as before. Also, in MG1-2 for the MSX Big boss also had an eyepatch, but at that point he was the main villian. MGS3 and MGS:PO aim to show why a person as noble and "genuinely" good could turn into a villian by the time MG1-2 storyline takes place. So to answer your question, the reason why they "gave him an eye patch" is because it's a seperate person. You should have figured that out when MGS3 takes place in 1964, before snake is even born.

more dissapointments to come...

I guess we'll have to wait till it finally comes out & wait for the reviews as it doesn't look like it's gonna be right up there with it's other MGS counterparts. Hope they polish it before it comes out.
by - 2006-11-27 22:03:49
Right now...

I'm guessing that they are just making more copies of MGS:PO. Then, Dec. 5 comes around and (North America) we get our games. I'm pretty sure they are done with the game by now.

by - 2006-11-27 22:32:16

by - 2006-11-27 22:50:46
better be 2 discs...

so that it will have lots of replay value. i wonder what would happen if we made poster number 3 swallow a stun grenade. XD
by - 2006-11-27 23:16:26
awwww

so it looks like the online play is limited to 4 people...well what ever, i'll make do with single player game play then.
by - 2006-11-27 23:34:07
your fired!

aside from the glitching in mgs3 subsistence, it is a better choice than po in the online mode department.

Sweet

This game look great, I can't wait for Dec 8th. I need to beat mgs 3.
by - 2006-11-28 00:19:05
looks like ps1

damn you think this game looks great? It is *****ing ugly IMO ! how many years has it been since the first MGS on PS1? too long if you ask me. the graphics are lame, the gameplay doesn't look too well either. I mean, have a look at those physics! It looks like you're playing with stupid action figures... no this is a real no-go. I would wait for the new Final Fantasy
by - 2006-11-28 00:26:03
Ooohhhh nice...

Can't wait for it to come out in the UK, looks great
by - 2006-11-28 01:57:11
...

this looks like the first killer app for the psp, i hope it turns the system's fortunes around.
by - 2006-11-28 04:49:40
shut up.........

cant believe its already being slated by a few ass-holes. the graphics look spot on i think.... what u have to consider is its on a portable machine.... videos never actually seem to do the psp justice. medal of honour heroes on video looks quite poor...but its a really really good game visually and game play wise. so at least give it a chance....and besides psp has only been out for a year or two...so its gonna improve over time.... i saw screens for pro evo 6 on psp and it looks excellent....very close to ps2. and then i saw them on ds. two words oooh dear. it looks barely as good as a suturn.

MGS

this will be the greatest game out on psp to date period this game looks amazing just hope it doesnt require a update
by - 2006-11-28 09:18:20
MGS for portable gaming, don't think so...

Give us back the Acid franchise, MGA is great and it is a far more appropriate gameplay for the PSP.
by - 2006-11-28 09:32:05
.

That doesn't make you less of an idiot.
by - 2006-11-28 09:37:46
.

First of all, do you even own a playstation? The graphics aren't near the looks of a playstation 1. Second, Final Fantasy doesn't have gameplay any better than this. Infact, FF sucks so much ass that your comment lost value.
by - 2006-11-28 11:03:41
Graphics

The graphics are awesome for a handheld! have ya seen the graphics on the ds???!! abismal!! i thought it was pretty good... almost ps2 graphics... Id say its even better than Wii graphics but that comparison is a bit unfair as everyone knows nintendo was aiming to match ps1..
by - 2006-11-28 12:56:57
fool

you idiot, you would rather play a turn based metal gear than a free roam metal gear that has wifi support YOU FOOL, BURN
by - 2006-11-28 13:22:10
gdfsf

I agree with liquidtenmillion But just for the record, Ocelot doesn't shoot Big Boss' eye out *intentionally*. BB swings forward and is accidently hit when the bullet ricochets off the wall
by - 2006-11-28 14:34:17
idiot

FINALLY A UNREGESTERED USER 3RD!!!!!
by - 2006-11-28 15:20:24
Are you joking?

Sure metal gear acid was fun but it is no match for the solids. Also it will be nice to have the game actually fit into the storyline of the other ones
by - 2006-11-28 15:30:24
God, shut the Hell up.

MGA was okay, just cause it was a side series. I do hope they make more MGAs. MGS:PO is a sequel/Prequel of the series, and I tells us why Big B goes Evil. Two good entirely different games, just with similar characters. ((I definitely want to see more of Venus)) By the way, FF PWNS.
by - 2006-11-28 20:33:12
rock on MGA & METAL GEAR PORTABLE OPS

first of all i think that sony will surely think of getting the stupid up***** firmware requirement(up*****ing = upgrading) in order to play the game (i wish not :S) i say that they really should make another sequal to the acids and put some wifi (online gameplay) into it too and add more to the story and the length of the game. the acid2 was short ( for me )so they should have more cards in it plus, more new charecters, and bosses. then it will be an even cooler game PORTABLE OPS..\m/ i have waited a whole fricking year for this game to show up . and im excited as HELL 7 days left and counting down
by - 2006-11-29 09:57:33
6 days left

hehehe
