GamePro has a list of fifteen things you need to know about GTA Vice City stories. While most of it you guys probably know already, a few things in that list really stand out. So just in case you're a total initiate (a politically correct way to say newbie) to GTA, and your parents bought you a PSP, here are some things to keep in mind.

This is GTA

So look to steal bikes, helicopters (some people were wondering if you can get airborne in this game), boats, and planes, as well as ATVs, buggies, and even a Sea-Doo-type. The more vehicles the merrier right?

You can swim now but...

Unlike GTA Liberty City Stories, you can swim in this game. It could be quite useful when you're getting away from the boys in blue. Just keep in mind though that if some persistent officer falls into the water he'll swim after you too. Also, even if you can swim now, unlike GTA San Andreas, you can't climb walls. Please keep that in mind okay? Just so you save yourself the embarrassment of jumping face first into a wall.

Vice City is still Vice City...

This isn't helpful if you're a newbie to the game, but if you happened to catch anyone else playing the first Vice City, the PSP version of Vice City is still the same. This means no new city for you to get used to (that is if you caught a bit of the first Vice City... after all if you're a newbie, everything's new to you). So enjoy the music, love the ambiance, enjoy the 80s decadence, and for Pete's sake, use your pager.

You need night vision

Time passes in Vice City, so when the sun goes down, turn the PSP's brightness settings way up. This is more of a hardware issue as the PSPs screens glare factor makes things a little difficult to see when it's nighttime in-game. At times like this, make good use of the gun-aiming system.

And finally, since you're a newbie

Be aware that this game gets really hard, really fast. Rockstar Games probably assumes that most people who will be getting this game are GTA veterans already, so the learning curve is a bit steep. Even the first few challenges get difficult really quickly. Move forward, carefully.

Now that this GTA newbie advisory is over, let me geek out a bit and whine: Just a few more days... can't wait, can't wait, can't wait... Geek out moment over. Back to your regular blogging.

What firmware? acecombat is 2.82
by - 2006-10-28 06:36:19
Let me get this straight

So you can swim but you can't climb walls. Is this some kind of stupid joke or something. I know you couldn't do this in the previous LCS but it does seem strange not to be able to do this.

FW

Ace combat comes with 2.81 update, but plays on 2.71.
by - 2006-10-28 06:43:35
climbing

its simple, san andreas was built with walls and stuff the right hight and structure to climb over, vice city wasnt, so their would be way to many glitches and people climbing over a wall to find themselves in a big blue room with flickering walls lol
by - 2006-10-28 06:44:29
acecombat

sorry, but how do u run acecombat on a 2.71 ta-082? and to the climbing walls, why is that a joke?

VCS will run with 2.81 FW !!

It seems that someone already has the game (cf. http://www.gtavicecitystories-fr.net/?page+accueil) His name is juju2011 and he says VCS will run on 2.81... Great perhaps it can be played with devhook...
by ZOLTRIX - 2006-10-28 11:40:19
So there arn't any new places?!

but if you happened to catch anyone else playing the first Vice City, THE PSP VERSION OF VICE CITY IS STILL THE SAME.... Noooo!
by - 2006-10-28 13:28:13
who cares

the big thing about it is that you can play gta anywere not just at your home and you can bring it to your friends (providing you have any) without carrying arround 50 pounds of equipment i think even though it is the same city it will be awsome would have been better if they had it take place after vice city 1 though

thought this game would be in my future unless rockstar is mad that lcs is the most distributed iso to date not that i worry cause it was the first game i bought. wonder if there is a way to make ur 1.5 to 2.xx psp believe its a highier firmware thus preventing this soon to be dilema and sonys demise of h-b im considering muying my self a new psp mine has been through hell and worse (no nub and its talking to me now) still good for allllll the emulators on ther besides 64 i know alot of people around my nieborhood with low firmware psp,s that dont really care about h-b so i might need ot make them a proposition. wow i was rambling sorry anyone who read this. grand theft auto rocks hope the custom track feature works on the new gta also cause then im gonna def buy it. cheers to h-b ;>
by - 2006-10-28 17:41:19
sorry

i ment a way to get the psp to believe a highier firmware other than the preexhisting methods like a mod of one of the deware loaders to believe its a highier firmware. the fake loader for dev gave me the idea when it said cant be loaded on any firmware other than 9.99 but when tried to load the iso through my game menu on my custom firmware d-a se-b it loaded in the menu so maybe ther is a possible route around it sho knows
