Who could ever forget Final Fantasy Tactics? The epic storyline, the deep and strategic battle system, not to mention the revelations that stunned many a gamer during the days of the PlayStation One. And to get us back into that haze of SRPG goodness is this gameplay video update of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War, featuring a cure spell and an ice elemental spell being cast.

Veterans will recognize these scenes, short and sweet as they are, as core elements in gameplay. After all, besides the use of items and weapons, magic is an important tool to be utilized both offensively and defensively. Healing spells give your characters some much-needed HP points, while attack spells take them away (and in a very flashy fashion).

Looking at the video, it's obvious that Square Enix made the decision to stick to the game's original graphics - using super-deformed 2D characters on a grid map. This in itself is very important, as we all know that the PSP is more than capable of displaying better-looking graphics - but any change to the Tactics formula, in this blogger's opinion, would've detracted from the experience itself.

Updates as we get them. Enjoy the videos!

its not as bad as the one from Japan but it still looks like every time you do a move in the game it goes a little slow :\

Which is annoying for me |:\

It seems alot smoother than the japanese version though. It seems to slow down a step but the japanese version would go down to 5-10fps...this looks like it drops down to 20 for a little bit.

I don't see how level 5 can make jeanne d'arc so fantastic and squenix can't figure out how to make an old ps1 game not lag when someone who runs an eboot'd version of the ps1 game has no problems whatsoever.

» Indeed.

Square Enix should put this entire game on their asses. I won't play a game of 10 years old with slowdown, sorry. Even if I'm a great FFT fan, I'll play it using the PS1 emulator on PSP. Go to hell, square! First came Sega with that crappy framerate Crazy Taxi, then Square?! What do they think we are?! Stupids?!

And congrats to Konami, who made Silent Hill Origins ran so well and smoothly. Squenix should leanr from her how to use the PSP.

I wish they redid the game with cel-shaded graphics like the ones in the movie, that would be sweet.
