Fan-made PSP commercial gets praises

Ó

We have another PSP ad here for you all, except this time, it isn't cryptic, it isn't mysterious, it doesn't befuddle, it doesn't try to make you ponder on the meaning of life, the universe, and everything (besides, we already know the answer to this, right?), and it doesn't involve talking dustballs. What we do have here is a fan-made commercial which was made and uploaded by jazzology2000 over at YouTube, which unlike other PSP ads, tells you exactly what you want to know about the PSP, and actually makes it all look fun.

With material like this floating around on the net and with glowing remarks attached to the said material, one can't help but wonder if Sony's marketing department hasn't quite caught on yet with something which the masses want and something that's just simply nice to look at.

thats a sick commercial, very professionally done. sony should take a look at it and air it.

i don't know why people are so amazed that its not made by sony... theres tons of people out there who do these things for fun, just because they can. Just because it's amazing its hard to believe anyone made it? lol its not very difficult if you know what your doing people.

And the funny thing is... everyone is saying how its better than the talking dustballs and stuff and that the talking dustballs commercial is stupid... however, why is it that everyone remembers the talking dustballs? Sony's marketing team is smarter than you think. I guarantee people will not remember this commercial a while from now, yet they will still remember the dustballs.

Just take a minute to think about why you remember the dustballs... you don't know why... but you just do.... that my friends, is what we call MARKETING.

does anyone else think this is fake? Its hard to make an ametuer video and get really good look models like you see in this....not to mention it could have been a little less elaborate to get the point across....the youtube user has never made any comments, posted video, listed any favorites, or any of the standard youtube stuff...and doesnt have a director account....

a few companies have tried to sell there products for cheap with "fan made" videos...posting them to various website and then letting people tell other people....

i just dont buy into this

# the girlGuest 2006-11-11 21:19

# ok, u keep thinking that....Guest 2006-11-11 22:11
this commercial is pretty good, and it does some up all the main features of the psp.

The only thing i can really complain about is how it doesnt mention that you need that location free player "base station" -(i forget what it's called) to actually watch tv live.

apart from that, yeh it does look good. far better than whatever the hell that dustball-thing was i saw the other day. a load of crap if you ask me.

Sony should start listening to it's feedback from the people who actually play the games, and instead of trying to crack down on homebrew games, applications and modifications, they should accept them.

# Just because you remember talking dustballs....Guest 2006-11-11 23:02
Just because you remember talking dustballs doesn't mean you want to purchase a PSP.

In marketing you have to do more than have a memorable commercial... you have to market the product. Talking dustballs and squirrels (both borderline racist charactures) are memorable for their weirdness, and not the product. Does anyone remember what any game the dustballs were trying to sell? I know I don't.

The reason this commercial is better is because it actually tries to sell the product... the PSP. And it's visually interesting enough to keep the attention of the consumer. Sure it's not some crazy commercial that everyone is going to remember, but it features the product and not talking dustballs/squirrles/baseballs etc.

I think a commercial should display the specifications of the product..Think of a boy that has no idea of what a PSP is..He sees a stupid commercial with some microbes or squirrels, and after that commercial he still has no idea of PSP..

This commercial is very successful,I hope Sony considers about it..

This commercial is simply great, the women in it were pretty nice looking, it makes the Psp and it's potential uses look fun and it gets the point across. Not only have Sony been owned by homebrew they are now getting owned by ''amateur'' ads for their very own product. I remember the talking dustballs but have no recollection of what they were talking about.

Even if I forget all about this fan made ad, it does alot more to entice me into making a purchase. I have to say there is no way I would be playing my Psp on a Bus, a tube or walking around with it in plain view in the street though.

# Dont even trying to pull thatGuest 2006-11-12 02:42
Europe gets screwed over and you know it. Games are always late over here ie socom, syphon filter, infected (I know its not brilliant but my point is it only got released a couple of months ago over here, like syphon filter, but is an incredibly old title)

The psp was released a year late, the same is likely to happen with the ps3

And when on the rare occasion titles get released early in europe, there either crap like gangs of london, or have a much superior version released later in the us ala pursuit force

So dont even think sony focusing on its european market. The US and Japan deffinetly come first to them

Europe has gotten titles not even thought of for the Us.

Breath of Fire 3

Tales of Eternia

12 is coming out there soon. And a bleach games is gonna come out in europe. Its like we get nothign in america. Sure we may get some *****ty titles first but, you guys are getting good titles we dont even get at all.

At last, it is a great commercial I would recommend the guy who made it to contact Sony and submit his "fan art".

I really like the dustball commercials, but this is a GREAT commercial to get the message across about the PSP. VERY WELL DONE indeed! Sony take note. This is how you generate interest in a product.

Dust balls are funny and memorable, but what else does that commercial time buy you? Many people would still not know what a PSP is or what it's capable of.
