Dead pixels?

Just in case you don't know (but we're guessing most of you do know this by now, unless you're mutated or something), stuck pixels or dead pixels, occur commonly in LCD products and can at times cure themselves when they just happen to fire or cycle properly. They will usually show themselves as white, black, red or blue irregularities.

So yeah, most of you guys probably ran into dead pixel problems on your PSP. Apparently, not even PSP billboards are safe from dead pixels. Check out the vid below

Oh, and just in case you feel saying something, no, this isn't news. The vid is just sort of amusing, that's all. Tagged under off-topic and videos.

I was pissed when I first noticed the dead pixels on my PSP, but I don't even notice them while in a game anyways, so no biggie.

That video is slightly amusing.

» Is this Dead or Stuck Pixels

Hi guys,

My psp seems to have developed dark areas on the screen at the bottom and top of the lcd. it doesn't show on light but when the screen is dark you can see that the black is not black in those area's it's a kinda grey.

as this is not the normal dead, stuck pixel issue I was wondering if anyone else experienced issue like this?

NeoN HaZe.

» Wow

That is some major dead/stuck pixels on that huge PSP. See? Some other PSP's LCD Screens are much worse than you people so no need worrying about it so much lol. But I do understand that its frustating seeing dead/stuck pixels on LCD's.

by Shyez - 2006-11-30 22:01
» Let's see

If you're saying that the top and bottom of your LCD in your PSP is a bit lighter when the screen is dark and the PSP is still on then I think that's normal. I have that too if we're on the same page.

I can't believe their are two stuck red pixels on that billboard. Omg I want to tear my eyes out right now.

Man, I tried squishing the screen to undo stuck pixels and I think I either scratched the screen or cracked it or something, it's got a nasty line in the top left corner (only bad when light colours in that region). But what is most annoying is that more and more dead pixels seem to pop up on the damn thing- I mean, the two i got to start with were fine, I didn't care, but *****, when more appear, that is just not cool.

To QJ authors and moderators:

Please don't use videos that automatically start. I find it annoying when I load up my tab-set of news pages and one or more make noise as soon as they load. I have to flip through all my tabs trying to find them. (Especially annoying when at work. Hard to pretend to work when computer is mixing odd sounds with the playing music.)

by RaiderX - 2006-11-30 23:36
» Those arent dead pixels...

You mean those big red dots? Those are way tooo big to be dead pixels.. >_> and I doubt the screen would have huge clusters of dead pixels like that. They look much more like the reflection of street lights or something of the sort. I mean, in the video, you see red street lights and car lights all over. Those can't be dead/stuck pixels

Im not sure that that huge screen would even use LCD and I am sure that from that distance individual pixles would be invisible.

As for anyone flipping out, or typing in all caps: It's a joke, we're aware that it's not actually a giant PSP with giant dead pixels. In other news, the giant donut on the local donut shop sign isn't real either. I could care less either way, as there are at least 2 dead sprinkles.

I really did not apreciate the autoplay of the video

as i had my speakers ramped right up as i had been listening to some LOW music on my pc earlier.

I nearly died ffs, to go from total peace and quiet to half a dozen cars horns, especially when i was not expecting them, does bad things to an old mans heart, Oh btw could i have sued, if i had actualy fallen from my chair like i nearly did -_-

» Backlight washout

The washout efffect you see is normal. You probably didn't notice it before is all. Getting a new backlight won't fix the problem. All LCD's need backlight and have this issue. Usually only noticable when screen is on showing black. I wish sony would have made the psp with OLED display. OLED looks awesome and needs no backlight, plus it is fully visible in bright light, and uses less power. I'm hopeing for a OLED screen mod. That would be a worth while mod.

by SpankyMCnoodle - 2006-12-01 16:28
» He is lucky

I have 2 psps'. One has 3 stuck pixels(white) on the lower left. The other one I bought more recent has no stuck/Dead Pixels. Your lucky if you got no dead pixels. Of coarse they can be just hard to see. Mine are only visible when screen is all black with backlight on.

by SpankyMCnoodle - 2006-12-01 16:31
» Large screen

I'm sure that screen is not an LCD display. You know how much that would cost? If that was a 200" LCD I'm going to Gank it tonight. It is a collection of larger LEDs. And yes some of the LED ligts seem to be stuck on red. Either that or it is someone with 3 bright red laser pointers.
