Yes folks, you heard it right. Datel has announced TiltFX, a revolutionary 3D motion control for the PlayStation Portable that promises to deliver real ‘Tilt’ control using the 3D movement of your handheld. The device features a ‘G’ sensor that provides "super smooth 3 axis motion control, high resolution MEMS accelerometer and powerful microprocessor that are designed to detect the motion of you PSP as you move creating a revolutionary way to play your PSP games." According to the company:

Tilt FX works with all games and is perfect for racing games, platform classics, pinball and balance games, replacing the normal direction pad and analog stick with high resolution ‘tilt’ control, using the 3D movements of your PSP to actually control the game.

Customised FX profiles and stunning effects are also selectable for tons of the latest and greatest games like Wipeout, Loco Roco,  F1, Need for Speed and many more. The Tilt FX ‘G’ sensor snaps into your PSP to provide seamless 3D game control so you can now Feel the Game.

TiltFX features:

  • Tilt FX sensor features a 3 axis high resolution MEMS sensor.
  • Free profiles for new game released available to download at www.tiltfx.com
  • Incredible new way to play your games with Tilt FX
  • Works with the original SONY PSP 1000 the PSP 2000 & 3000

TiltFX for the PSP is now available at your local video game retailers for a suggested retail price of US$ 19.99 or £ 14.99.

meh. I never cared for sixaxis control on ps3 and neither did most other people: Lair's control scheme was so unpopular they eventually patched it use standard controls. It'd be even worse if the games weren't specifically written with motion controls in mind.

Sony needed to add it themselves, not wait for third party companies to do it for them.

This should have been released by Sony instead of the PSP Go (put the money from the Go to motion sensing) .. and then they could've had downloadable cheap games a la apps for the PSP with motion sensing, like one of those marble games

all through my whole life i've been trained to NOT heave the controller of a console in order to make mario, lara, croc run/jump faster/higher because it 'looks stupid' and doesn't do anything. then they start making these things that put me back in to desperate stupid 5 year old mode. I dunno. It's not for me, but its still cool.

If Sony released one they'd charge $50 and so it would be lame, but $20 is nothing and could actually make a few of the crappy old Psp games a bit more fun.

How dumb of them to use the headphone and TV out jack for the thing! Now you have to play it on your PSP screen with the speakers. Not only is that distracting when you're trying to actually play the game and look at the screen, but the PSP speakers are terrible. :(

Cool idea, but it's full of fail just for using the headphone jack.

The headphone jack is Out. Chances are it has a passthrough. Even if they wanted to, they couldn't use the headphone jack to input data.

I do think they should have used the USB port though...

I 100% agree with asdwdwads, if it uses the headphone jack then its a fail with me, i mean that's what i use with psp 100% of the time. Why not the usb slot instead.

Fail for sure, nice concept though. So would miss my sennheiser headphones. :sigh:

Unless you can reprogram the headphone jack as a microphone jack(i've seen some soundcards do it), there is no way the headphone jack is actually being used.

PS: Looked at Datel's site. Looks like it's just a nub that goes in the Headphone jack. So, even if it isn't being used, it can't be passthru'd.
Datel, you fail.

wasn't something like this made a couple years ago (2007) by some group called NEO? They even sold motion kits for making homebrew games with it.

+2 # lolGuest 2010-03-23 01:24
thats true... it goes into the Headphone jack and it was pretty cheap. I don't know if the still selling it... but i remember some games supported it like Geometry wars retro evolved (homebrew).

I remember that too. No one used it other than a few plugins and homebrew games.

Datel stealing the work of the scene once again, and giving nothing back (where's our homebrew loader, goddammit). Raphael is the one who wrote the drivers for that 2 years ago...

the main article is from 2007! Says it doesnt support the slim model though so i guess datel have done us ppl with slims a favour, plus they made it work with current games which is more than what the NEO group did

Sorry its a stupid idea!

How the hell do you play Killzone Liberation or Syphon Filter Logans Shadow?

Why would you want to resort to an inferior tilt sensor, over a analogue joypad for a driving game? I find the idea ridiculous.

The PSP needs a second analoue controller FFS! its well overdue already.

Get an iphone or itouch if you want to fanny around with tilt sensor driving games.

I'm looking for the PSP2 with duel analogue with the ability to run PS2 games, then you have access to one of the best games libaries ever created.

I still think tilt controls are a gimmick rather than an advancement to driving games.

Personally, I don't give a F about motion control, especially on a handheld. I want to be able to hold my controller or handheld comfortably without having to worry about Fing up my gameplay.

Nintendo brings back a failed 9 year old control technology, big whoop, I'm a bit angry that everyone is copying them now.

So the Only thing that has failed here so far is you...

Thats pretty neat. Would be pretty awesome on Wipeout or Locoroco.

But its an ugly little wart isn't it. I wish they would have made it more form fitting.
Maybe flatter and wrapped around towards the rear panel like a "J".

but the real question is how many games will actually use it? this might just be used for quick games like minis. or as you see above monkey ball.

this would be sweet if mod nation racers used it though.

i mean this could just be another thing like the wario ware movement pack was on gba.

anyway i think this is pretty cool

the reason why i stopped playing grand turismo on psp was because it didn't real like a real racer with the basic analog controls. now this will make it a whole lot better and i may end up deleting my ipod racing games.
