Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-D3 final released

As we all know, yesterday's release of Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-D3 didn't really went well as planned with some users reporting various problems using the firmware update. So what's the reasons behind the hiccups and what's new with the latest release?

A little less than 24 hours after our previous release, here is the Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D3 fully functional, we will try to respond quickly to the question everyone asks:

But what happened anyway?

As you all noticed last night the server was "slightly" faltered under the weight of multiple connections, and F5 desperate that most of us were abused, awaiting the arrival of new custom firmware.
The editor allows us to create and publish our news has also been affected, and if we could publish, not without difficulty, the 5.03GEN-C, things are complicated when it came time to finalize the news on the 5.50GEN-D3. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we invite you to take advantage of this revised version. You can reinstall it safely over your version 5.50GEN-D3 current.

Improvements in the final version:

* Fix for bug eliminate the VSH menu, everyone can now enjoy the contents of its Memory Stick
* Update on backups that were seen as corrupt.
* Improved speed of access to Memory Stick during a game session
* Added support for IRSHELL D3 which will release shortly.

Only God Eater worries arise again, but we can hope that this update should address everyone. During this long day, we noticed that a lot of problems stem from improper installation, and we invite you to read the next page ...

The only people you're helping out by fixing the bug is pirates who won't pay for the games regardless.

Since all of the newest releases could be played if you owned the UMD, why can't you guys(GEN) make it so that the ISO's won't appear and people can't just pirate?

People used to bitch about the PSP not getting games, now the system is getting games left and right. When no one buys the games and just pirates them, we'll be back where we were previously, with fewer AAA new releases in comparison to now.

the legitimate reason why we use iso files is so our umds wont get screwed up and we can save them for a long time like photos. it also like other people have said helps with not having to carry all of your umds around.

I don't know about that. I don't pirate games, but I originally modded my PSP so I could dump my most played games onto the memory stick, and to rip and play FFVII on it. I don't think cutting off ISO support would be a great idea.

I'll do an udpate once I hear what others are experiencing with it. Had no problems with Gen yet! A good DAX replacement.

I noticed a lot of speed up to everything with this firmware, everything loads faster now! W00t! It's awesome... This version seems bug-less to me. Although 5.50 GEN-D and D2 have a load of problems, so I stayed at 5.50 GEN-B until this came out. Nice work GEN!

Popsloader still has no sound. :( I have a Slim with TA-085 mother board. I ripped my own prx from the firmwares and ripped games from my own collection. I even used this with it. http://dl.qj.net/psp/homebrew-applications/popsloader-550gen.html

Don't get me wrong, im gratful for everything they did; especially to make Gundam vs Gundam to work. But i don't wanna sacrifce my Popsloader for it. Hope they can look into it when they have a chance. :)

Everytime I unplug the charger from my PSP-1000 it instantly shuts down by itself. I can't play anything without having the charger plugged in! What up with that? Also my brother's PSP-1000 charger only works if the wifi is turned off.

Yeah, my battery's probably dead by now so I'll replace that eventually. As for my brother's charger, it worked fine with the wi-fi turned on before the update. Now it only charges if the wi-fi is turned off but that's a hassle if you're playing something like Phantasy Star Portable 2 lolol.

Use the 5.00 popsloader with the 3.72 prx. It works perfectly with GEN. I have used it with a multi-disk FFVII eboot, Crash team racing, Battle arena toshinden, Spyro 1 2 and 3, and Quake 2. All run perfectly with sound.

I'm way behind the times, still running 3.0x on my phat. Does this firmware keep compatibility with the old 1.50 kernel? Most of my homebrew still runs on 1.50.

There is actually a way to use most 1.50 homebrews without actually having 1.50 kernel. Thank's for Noobz and eLoader. At least the following method worked with 5.00m33. A gen user might be able to confirm whether it works with Gen also.

1) Get yourself PePViewer 0.8 for 3.71m33.

2) Copy your 1.50 homebrew this way x:\PSP\GAME\ -> the two folders you have for 1.50 homebrew.

3) Copy to the folder x:\PSP\GAME\ the included files EBOOT.pbp, eLoaderBridge.prx, eLoaderPRX.prx, emenu--.pbp emenu_1000.png, loader1000.cfg (some files are probably unnecessary, though).

4) Modify the loader1000.cfg. Change the menu-path for the EBOOT.PBP you wish to run.

5) And that's it. If you want to change the picture and the name of the title you can use PSPbrew_091 and WinHex-programs. Very easy.

What comes to the piracy, I think there can be a solution that keeps the gamers (who also want to use homebrews) and game developers happy. If/when future games need to be patched, Gen's firmware could only support patching and running the new games from the UMD-drive (obviously would not work with the GO). To keep everyone else happy, running the old game's from ISO-folder should be possible of course, but not the new ones anymore.

It's not really needed if you just want emulators. If you look hard enough, you can find emulators the work at 3.XX kernal. If it works on 3.XX kernal, it will work for 5.50 Gen-D3. You can sittl play NES, SNES, Game Gear, GBA, GB, CPS2, Pico, MVS (Neo-Geo) etc. etc.

I can't believe I had to reset all of my backgrounds, internet connections and time settings. I would have expected GEN to convert those over. But, all homebrew works. Even NesterJ which is in my GAME150 folder plays, which surprised me.

I haven't tried playing anything that needs anything more than D2 and D2 has been stable enough for my purposes so far. I will wait and upgrade when I need too as I do with most software. Wanted to play a title newer than 5.00 and by then D2 was out. I think I'm just going to wait until I want to play something newer on it or need one of the new features. Until, I'm sticking with D2 and bypassing D3 (Multi-viersions and some buggy and some people still reporting bugs.)

Just updated to this CFW, All my emulators work fine...except for DGEN. I have DGEN 1.7 on my psp, and it worked fine with the 3.71m33 cfw I had prior to pandora-reverting to 1.5 and updating to 5.50GEN-D3, now I just get a message saying "game could not be started (80020148)." I already tried switching the kernel to 1.50 in the recovery menu; that didn't work. Any ideas?

If the game works and is choppy cutscenes, don't worry about it, just the way it is. I ripped MGS Integral (Jap version) and it was choppy too. I have an American MGS and that was choppy on PSP too.

lets make this short. DAX did not simply “quit”. remember back when people were experimenting with the GripShift exploit? remember how HellDashX had a working kernel exploit for it, but Alek accused him of stealing the exploit from DAX? well, that exploit just happened to be DAX’s “ace in the whole”, so to speak. that exploit was the only reason DAX was able to make so many CFWs. it was an exploit present in EVERY single OFW. he never publicly release this exploit because if he had Sony would have patched it. now skip forward a few weeks. remember ChickHEN? sure you do. well, it just so happens that the kernel exploit used in ChickHEN is the same exploit that HellDashX almost released. so.. whats that have to do with anything?

well, once ChickHEN was released, Sony immediately patched it. remember OFW 5.05? yeah, you do. and remember how HEN didnt work on it any more? what happened is that Sony patched DAX’s only way of exploiting the FWs, thereby making him unable to make any future CFWs. he was understandably pissed about this, and basically said “fuck it. you guys are on your own”. (except, you know, in spanish) so you can blame that fag who released ChickHEN for there not being a 6.00 M33 (or GEN, because we all know they just hex edit that shit)

I installed this over Gen-B and it is a complete mess.

It freezes my psp everytime a memory stick load occurs, (loading a save, Inserting a new ms) and sometimes just freezes for the hell of it.

Almost bricked my psp once too. Had to yank the battery out and restart it about 14 times before the screen turned on.

The sony music player constantly freezes when I let the backlight turn off.

And worst of all, It gave my psp an (80410B05) error code, rendering me unable to use the wi-fi.

This is fail, im going back to 5.00 m33-4.

This release is a total fail, it cant even run mgs:peace walker (it always freezes randomly mid-game). I had to downgrade back to D-2, which is far better than this bugfest (it also runs mgs flawlessly). These Gen guys should not bother with making D-4 though, they should make 6.10 Gen so PSN freakkin works already.

In order to play certain games you have to install plug-ins in the root of the memory stick (such as KHBBS files and cxmb). These plugins will allow you to play CSO and ISO games like the Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. Also, there is a new plugin called PSN FUCKER which allows you to access the Playstation Network with Custom Firmware.

Yes It's okay. I had custom firmware 5.50 GEN-D (full) and then I upgraded to CFW 5.50 GEN-D3 without any problems. For PSP 1000s, it's often best to downgrade to CFW 5.00 M-33 first, and then upgrade to GEN-D3.
