CAPCOM CPS2 Emulator Test Version 5 In the Works

Capcom 1Here we are again for another episode of "The Days of NJ's Life". The exceptional Japanese developer has come up with the 5th test version of the CAPCOM CPS2 emulator. It seems that this time, he has surpassed the agonies of game developing and didn't consider dropping his nifty project (unlike what he initially thought of doing with the previous test versions), much to the joy of PSP gamers out there.

There have been modifications to the cache files. The spf2t file is now added to enable users to play the following games (before, the farthest you could go when you try to play these games is the loading screen):
  • ecofghtr
  • avsp
  • sfa
  • 19xx
  • megaman2
  • Qndream
  • spf2t
  • csclub
  • mpangj
  • pzloop2j
He adds that the PSP can't support "normal way of drawing and separating the sprites". So what he did was to place all the sprites in the graphics, and then check the masked data one by one. He adds that the dta is stored in the cache files and it would be difficult if it's not completed. He also adds that if you have any questions with the games, feel free to contact him.
Apparently, though, this emulator is still in the works. Let's cross our fingers that it's going to be out soon.

Check back with us for more about all this!

Megaman 2 Power Battle already worked for me before ;|

» All of those games and MANY more already work with CSP2 ver 4

I have all of the mentioned games to work almost perfectly along with MANY, MANY more. They all run at full speed even with sound (although SFA3, among others run full with sound off, buut thats just a small handfull of games that needs no sound to run normal) The CSP2 ver. 4 was near perfect IMO!

by Shroud - 2006-08-11 19:13
» Need Raine Emu

For the old Wrestling games it would be nice if someone ported Raine. I don't think the PSP has enough memory to run some of the 90s Mame games.

Thanks NJ for making a very playable and great CPS1 and CPS2 emulators as well as all your work with NeoGeo.

"There have been various changes made for the Test 5 (of this emulator)

Firstly, the cache files (system) that had to be written before the games were run is undergoing an overhaul.

Also, even though it wasn’t required to make a cache file for “spf2t”, from now it will be necessary.

By changing the cache file system, certain games will be able to be run by loading them directly.

The ones that should do this are in the list below (including clone sets):-

 ecofghtr

 avsp

 sfa

 19xx

 megaman2

 qndream

 spf2t

 csclub

 mpangj

 pzloop2j

I’m just about finished with this alteration.

Next is a revision of the sprite masking process as used in certain games, however, this'll take some time (to complete). If all the necessary sprite masking processing is attempted on the PSP, the speed of the games will drop drastically. Therefore, it will have to be shared with regular sprite drawing.

So, I’m currently checking all the sprite data and masking data (of each game) piece by piece.

And because all this information is recorded in the cache file, finishing this task is not going to be easy.

At this point in time, the only game other than progear that’s been fixed is the csclub screen below.

The ssf2t (ssf2xj) continue screen has been revised too. Also, another noticeable thing is the gigawing demo. Are there any other games that don't work correctly that I should take a look at? If anyone notices anything strange in a game, it'd be a great help if you let me know."

Enjoy.

» NJ please work on midtunit.c and midwunit.c

All we need now is NJ to work on midtunit and midwunit drivers and bring the mortal kombat and NBA Jam games to life on the PSP. Midway arcade treasures for the PSP is full of glitches and everytime you pull a fatality in MK2 the screen goes blank...

» @23

sega saturn on the psp!!!!!! you are kidding, right?, RIGHT!!

The saturn is probably the toughest system ever to emulate due to it's complex processor and graphics set up, and will never ever be emulated on the psp. Even the PC doesnt have good saturn emulation.

To a lesser extent, the same applies to the 32x.

Don't be so negative, people said the same thing about N64 emu and look at it now. Anything is possible. When I got the PSP for the first time on launch I never would of imagined all the homebrew there were to come. N64, CPS-2... It's only the beginning.

» Cache File

I'm quite new on using emulators, but I'm already a big Fan.

I have CPS1 emulator working, But I do not know how to put CPS2 working.

I'm using CPS2 test5 and I allway get the following error: Could not open file. "tile8_usage (Scroll1 pen usage"

How can I fix this?

Can anyone please explain in detail to me how to create a cach file?
