Are we going to see 8 PSP models eventually?

There are four PSP models right now. There's the 1000, the 2000, the 3000, and the soon-to-be-released Go. How far is Sony planning to continue revising the hardware for their handheld? Rumor has it that they may be planning to release at least eight different models.

According to PSPGen, further investigation of firmware 6.00 points to the possibility. There's apparently an index_0xg.dat file there that can load from _01g to _08g. The _02g module already appeared in old firmware for the PSP-1000, disappeared, and then returned when the PSP-2000 was released:

Turning to the topic of the day, there is a file that is used to manage information of regions and models of the PSP which is called index_0xg.dat and today gives us valuable information. Indeed, the 6.00 firmware can have support to load a index_0xg.dat in this case have its support to _01g to _08g.

Funny is not it? Sony is therefore to integrate the ability to manage prx next 4 models of PSP. Oldest should remember that modules _02g had already appeared in firmware of the PSP-1000 before disappearing in an update next and finally to return with the release of the PSP-2000. We may be here in the same case: a discraction before precipitation Listed.

Of course, this isn't exactly hard evidence as the modules could be associated with prototype or debug versions. Still, don't be too surprised if we end up seeing another revision next year. Sony has released a new PSP every year for the last three years now, after all.

Read the changelog.

For those of you looking to customize your XMB (XrossMediaBar) , a few new colors will be added under the Theme Settings. These new theme colors can be used on PSP models 2000 or after (PSP-2000, 3000 and N1000).

» Iphone games good?

Give me a break i have played well over two dozen different games on the Iphone and (not just solitaire) and really none of them have had any staying power to keep me interested for more than an hour or so and then I promptly decided to see if there was anything better.

» Iphone

Is already on it's third model so you certainly can't say it's just Sony doing this.

» OMG Iphone has ALOT of power compared to PSP.

You say its up to 800 MHZ, thats alot of power compared to PSP's 333mhz.

Oh by the way those who bring up the 4 hundred something MHZ in PSP GO, thats not going to be used in games, only USB mode and truth be told, the only way to use that extra mhz is if hackers hacked the PSP GO!.

Thats the only way to use that 4 hundred MHZ in game.

Oh by the way, notice PSP GO's first model is named

N1000.

PSP 1000 then became PSP 2000 and so on. N1000 means theres more PSP GO iterations to come. N2000, N3000. Just like PSP.

Thats why its called N1000. To the person who dissed Iphone, atleast they upgrade the power for that thing every iteration they create. 800 MHZ, with that much power in a PSP, you could do almost anything with that.

Saddest thing is Pandora handheld is more powerful than Iphone and PSP.

Sooner or later Sony will have to bring a new handheld out with alot of power cause PSP will be more inferior than ever compared to the other handhelds you can get now adays.

Other handhelds out there are more powerful than PSP, even though Iphone is not really a handheld.

PSP GO upgrades will probably be more memory and they should change the screen back to 4.3.

GP2X handheld comes with upgrades every year and the MHZ keeps on growing on those devices. Latest version has OLED and Touchscreen. Every handheld out there now has an OLED screen and touch screen, expect next Iphone and Touch to have an OLED screen aswell.

» god..

That would be retarded...by them releasing the same thing with a different body every year is not going to get me to upgrade from my good ol psp 1001, sony is becoming as relentless as apple and its almost disgusting that they think people would keep coming back if sony did have this as a plan.

» Jesus...

At everyone *****ing about the games, I am so sick of this myth that the system has "no good gemes"

Have you even seen the latest games on the handheld? Like the PS2, the hardware is only just reaching a peak - God of War showed what the system was capable of, and Soul Calibur, Motorstorm and Gran Turismo are taking it even further.

Instead of whinging about the hardware and carping on about lack of good games, take your heads out of your collective asses; show me a game on iPhone (or any handheld platform) that competes with Macross Ace Frontier, Motorstorm, Gran Turismo, God of War, Pangya Golf, Dissidia, Crisis Core, Disgaea 1 &2, SF Alpha 3, Project Diva, FIFA 09 and the Gundam games (off the top of my head).

Not to mention the upcoming games which include Persona 3, Valkyria 2, Assassins Creed, Tekken 6 and Macross Ultimate Frontier.

Seriously, if you can't find anything you like in that lot, you just don't like games period.

» no they souldn't quit

the reason to upgrade is to make it better, if they stopped at the 2000 ppl could easily pirate games all the time, they wouldn't have a better screen and a mic to make phone calls. they upgrade because its better for the system, i love to see new models come out. if you don't like them coming out then dont buy them ever.

by zzk2001 - 2009-09-17 15:16
» LOL

Them making Newer versions of the PSP has nothing to do with Hacking of the systems as they will be hacked no matter what anyways (AKA) the PSP Go will be hacked.

As for the so called versions better? Umm NO, i will say the PSP 2000 is (a little better) over the PSP 1000 BUT the PSP 3000 is in NO WAY better then the Slim Or Fat "Really it is Worse" As for the PSP Go that's all in how you see it, But for me i say it's worse. "Not better"

by zzk2001 - 2009-09-17 15:29
» yea...

I am not shooting you down Or anything as you Make a good point.

"There are Many good games on the PSP"

BUT i would have to say ALL but 2 of the games you listed SUCK! lol

the two games being God Of War + Persona 3.

But saying that it makes another good point, "There are many types of GOOD games for the PSP for all people's taste.
