Hopes are running high for the Sony PlayStation 3 exclusive MAG, Zipper Interactive's 256-person multiplayer fragfest. Zipper's also aiming high, promising to deliver a multiplayer experience deeper than that of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (PS3, Xbox 360, PC), the reigning king of the multiplayer FPS hill.

"MAG is 100% multiplayer and has been since day one," said Zipper's Tony Iuppa in an interview with NowGamer. "This has let us spend all of our development resources on creating a deeper MP experience, which supports tight shooter gameplay seen in games like COD, but thatÂ’s just the foundation of our offering."

Iuppa also mentioned that there will be a variety of gameplay options in MAG, one of which is the Shadow War, an ongoing tournament between the different player factions. They'll also be rolling out some heavy-duty community tools to further enrich the multiplayer experience.

In other MAG news, Sony has just rolled out the game's official website. There's nothing in it yet aside from a map that lets you listen in to some ambient sounds from conflicts raging all over the world. Some of the spots also have what sounds like morse code in the background and trigger a couple of quick screenshot flashes. Check it out here.

» FPS or TPS?

As long as I can set which view I want, then this game will be really really cool I can't stand the FPV for some reason. Doesn't mean I don't like it though, it can be pretty good at times.
