The 360 magazine posted a highly unusual review on their blog. How unusual? Well... they reviewed PS3-exclusive Killzone 2, and they liked it. What's more, the review says that it's better than Gears of War 2 in some respects.
Now this is what I call anti-fanboyism. Spread the love. The review was mainly based on 20 minutes of gameplay after spotting the Killzone 2 preview code on the desk of their sister mag, Play. Here a clip from the review:
ItÂ’s good. Really good in fact. this is the genre that has belonged to the 360 since its inception, but it finally looks like Sony has an Ace in its deck.
Visually, Killzone 2 is quite something - besting even Gears 2 in the motion-blurred grey battleground stakes, and the weight and purpose of everyting from the weapons to the characters is somethign to behold. Most importantly, though, itÂ’s really satisfying to play.
The enemy AI, coupled with a well implemented cover system (unusual for an FPS) means Killzone 2Â’s skirmishes are uniquely challenging and gratifyingly meaty.
The reviewer does add though, that his impressions are based on just experiencing a part of the opening mission, so whether Killzone 2 will deliver on variety is still a matter to be seen. At any rate, this only gets me pumped up more for the game. Killzone 2 will be released on February 27.

well microsoft just helped sony do that even more... in other words this game could even be underhyped... it might be even better than what ppl r saying right now about it...
There hasn't been any good FPS for the PS3, as good as MGS4 is it's not a FPS.
It's not an insult to the PS3 at all, obviously guerilla have done a great job working around the PS3's sharp edges which have cut so many devs.
Good news for everyone, if they played it for 20 minutes and were impressed then it should be good for the long haul. The only issue as they mention might be if they don't have enough variety in the gameplay or the story blows, surely they won't let that happen.
By the sounds of it they've got that 30 seconds of fun thing down pat with the cover system (what any good FPS needs) and you'll be able to use that through out the whole game.
it's obvious that killzone 2 will be a great game, but the fact that microsoft did this stunt is basically to overhype. why didn't the give this credit to MGS4? a game that was completely excellent, and yet the now give killzone 2 some amazing hype when some reviewers (who have released their ratings to early) average the scores from 8-9/10? his is a very cheap move to keep the media overhyping of this game, and then get buyers dissappointed when they find out this isn't "the so great game" it was supposed to be. It's definately gonna be great, but come on, early reviewers have already showed how it is, and Guerilla Games has never done a "AAA title". I'm not getting overhyped over this game and I'm gonna enjoy it as the great game it would be, but this overhyping will bring many to deep dissappointment and that's what microsoft is trying to do.
Now wanna really play hundreds of astonishing games instead of like 2-3 each new gen console offers? Preorder a Pandora and relive what true epic games are!

He's talking about the FPS genre which is what has made 360 ship so many consoles with halo2 and 3 (both are playable on the 360). To paraphrase hime "To date Sony hasn't been able to get one decent FPS game, but by the look of it now they have an ace in the deck." MGS4 is not a FPS!!
FPS sell any platform very well because it puts you behind the gun.

MS had nothing to do with this, this is an independent magazine that owns a 360 magazine and a PS3 magazine. There's no hand of MS in this, to be honest they're probably a bit miffed that a magazine meant to publish 360 news is publishing PS3 news. It was probably a slow news week for the 360 guys what with their being nothing on the horizon for the 360 any time shortly. The only thing they've got coming out in feb is the lost and the damned dlc for GTA4.

Fair enough yeah I've heard a few people say they like resistance better. I still don't know if it ever reached that "killer ap" status that the halo series did and it looks as though KZ2 is going to. It'll be interesting what exclusive MS is going to pull out of their 4ss now to combat this. By the sounds of it GOW2 might have just been owned at it's own game (the cover move system, GOW2 isn't exactly FPS). I don't think Halo ODST is going to save the 360 this year, it sounds to be a very basic expansion on the original Master Cheif series of games. I think it's also inevitable that there will be a Halo4 but I won't expect that until 2011-2012, going off Bungie's normal release cycles. So MS is kind of being left with their *blat*s hanging in the breeze here. Plus sony have got Resistance 2, as well.
Anyway Resistance being killer ap or not KZ2 could very likely succeed where the others failed.
Halo was only considered a killer app because it was the first successful online fps for a console.
I'd put Halo on the same level as Resistance.

i've played killzone 2 and i must say it's the best game graphically and technologically on a console. it is second to none when it comes to graphics, physics and animation. the gameplay is awesome and i cant wait til it's released.
There is a few typos in the article it seems, I'm not sure if they were present in the original quote or if they got mistyped during the transitioning to this article, I just want to make sure QJ doesn't get flammed. The errors are in the sentence:

We've all heard about this being a 'Halo Killer' and such, and whether or not thats true, I couldn't give a ****. Ill admit I've been sucked into flaming before but I just wanna enjoy this game, I've played it, and if FPS is your favourite genre then you SHOULD love this. Its a spectacle, in MY opinion, the BEST game ever made (in terms of FPS genre at least )

You're really are a stupid scared little boy aren't you, unlike most people I prefer to have two high tech consoles competing out there. For a long time I've been worried we're not going to have any real competition from the PS3 to drive the XB720 this could be the game to kick MS' 4ss around their ears. Nintendo don't even seem slightly interested at all in bleeding edge at the moment. So I look to Sony and MS for cutting edge stuff in the future too. I might even go out and buy a PS3 (if the Mrs will let me have two consoles) if this turns out as good as what people are saying.
Well that's a stupid self defeating argument because we all know COD4 isn't exclusive so it doesn't exclusively drive sales for the PS3. As well as this COD4 sells more on the 360 and runs better on the 360 (because it was developed primarily for the 360 like most multi platform games this gen).
You guys really can't take a compliment about your console no wonder sony are losing, even their fans are overly defensive about their console with no PR skills.
I hope the game is great guys and I'll gladly fork out the cash for a PS3 if it's as good as what people are saying.
How would you compare it to halo3, I know they're very different games. Are the controls good, do you feel immersed in the gameplay?

Fair enough man, the more I hear about this game the more I think I might have to get a PS3. Can you get Left 4 Dead on the PS3? That game is awesome, can't say I own it but one of my mates has it on the PC. That'd be another good FPS.
im sorry but cod4 was developed for ps3 and 360 indevidually. HALO3 sux i played it b4 trading in my 360, and from what i hear Gears2 isnt anything to brag about. altho i did enjoy the 1st ill give u that. and did u think that cod4 has more sales on 360 than on ps3 because its been out a yr longer and because MS overhypes a faulty console so all the lil kids make their mommy buy it. u dont even have a ps3 but u say cod4 runs bettr on 360? its even been prooven it runs 100% identical on and offline. i bet ur 360 will eventually rrrod if it hasnt already. than u should pick up ps3 with killzone, r2 and uncha rted
