You Can't Resist a Resistance: Fall of Man Preview |
Ó
We "Ahh" in satisfaction. Walking through IGN's Resistance: Fall of Man preview is like walking to the candy store before it opens. You get a sneak peek of what awaits you when those doors are finally flung wide open.Like, in this case, all those weapons. Specialized, one-of-a-kind, "use the wrong one and you're dead" weapons. This isn't just eye candy. This is frag candy.
- The Auger: a Chimera shotgun that (a) will blast through anything, including its target, and (b) has a secondary energy shield that is resistant to most weapons - except another Auger.
- The Bullseye: the Chimeran M-16 while secondary fire is - or are - homing bullets that will track a single enemy.
- The Sapper: a glob-firing gun based on CHimeran technology. Essentially a sticky-mine gun whose secondary fire detonates those black sticky globs.
- LAARK: advanced rocket grenade that can pause in mid-flight and turn to a new flight path, and can fire a multi-warhead rocket for group fire (In the background, one QJ staffer exclaims "OMG I love this *bleep* gun!!!").
- And more... Lots more...
Graphics have been pumped up, with up to 400 individual animations per highly-detailed character. Combine that with the most natural lighting IGN has even seen, intense and widespread particle effects that literally gets smoke in your eyes, and Insomniac's proprietary rag-doll physics engine, and that pretty much nails the verdict on Resistance's visuals.
The game sports both split-screen coop (we've seen this the last time) and online fragfest multiplayer. Split-screen ran "flawlessly" with nary a drop in framerate or graphic detail. While there won't be any vehicles online (there will be in the split-screen co-op), all the 40 players are crammed into a small place. Oh boy, the guts will really fly in this kind of multiplayer. Players can play as both human and Chimera in online, bringing the strengths and weaknesses of each race.

I told you Xbox360 are History :)
Ps3 will rule !
The Ps3 power will shine for us gamers!!!
TGS is coming!
With the prior article from 1UP's impression of VF5, and IGN's Resistance impressions, PLUS GameSpy's 'Fight Night 3: Get in the Ring' impressions of being 'better than what we've seen on the Xbox 360', I have some restored faith in Sony.
And then Devil May Cry 4 was the icing on the cake!
no online vehicle?:(
a very minor flaw on one of the best games to come out this year:P
WTF
killer game ,crazy graphics, this is a winner.
This is shaping up to be the must have launch title. The 40 player multi-player is going to be insane. The fact they have used the space that blu-ray affords to ramp up texture detail just shows that this is truly next gen. Roll on march for us Brits!
thares a good reason that thay removed online vehicles was that thay found "affter doing a lot of tests, we found that we enjoyed the frantic, personal play style as opposed to a more open bettlefied style" so as it looks it was not that the game can't handle it but that it was just not as fun, but i still have to ask why not make a selection to have vehicles or not? on the plus side thay did say the game will have downloadable content so maybe later we can download maps made to have vehicles in it, cuase it does say thare are vehicles in the single player game. oh yes one more thing that QJ has miss led a bit thay should have said "all 40 players can be crammed into a small place" not " all the 40 players are crammed into a small place" what it says in the article is that all 40 players can fight in a small area and not have a drop in performance
.......... waiting for a Xboy to pop in and whine. '360 is dreamcast away ;)
It still looks like a 7/10 or 8/10 FPS to me.
Having watched the movies on IGN (the HD versions since I'm a member), the gameplay doesn't look like anything I haven't seen and done a thousand times before, including the usual boss battles.
Hopefully online is where this game will shine the most, but the lack of vehicles online is disappointing (regardless of the reasons given).
We'll see.
Sounds like someone cant stop sucking masterchiefs di ck. Everyone always compares that average FPS to everything else. Face i would rather play red faction 2 fora year straight then the halo series.
What the hell, he didn't even MENTION Halo, and you are already talking about it. But I agree with #9, visually it looks good and all, but there's not much innovative to me, it just looks like a regular FPS with shiny graphics.
Killfox, did you even READ my post? What has this got to do with Halo?
Gamers like you are so stupid with your obsessive LOVE for a console and it's games that you over react to posts like mine as if I'd just insulted your lover! Grow up, it's a games console, not your partner!
#11 - That's exactly it. Resistance looks like being a good solid FPS, just what the PS3 needs, but from what I've seen so far, it doesn't appear to offer FPS fans (like myself) anything special or innovative. :|
you cannot talk about lack of innovation yet, wait till you have played it.
Weapons looks very promising and A.I. seems to be challenging. If they make the environment destructable enough and introduce some interactive elements, surely, this FPS will be in every PS3 owner home ;)
that if we talk enough about how we want vehicles so much that thay can be added as a download, since the single player game already uses them thay can be added verry easy. even if this doesn't do it for us thares always killzone 2
