Yoshinori Ono video interview: new PS3 shaders make Street Fighter 4 hard to port

Capcom already has a lot of background when it comes to pulling realistic images out of the PS3, but the more artistic feel of Street Fighter 4 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) is giving game designer Yoshinori Ono and his team a hard time.

One thing that particularly gave them trouble was getting some of the more artistic shaders of the PS3 to work properly for the game's "inky" graphics effect. Ono called it a "one-two combo", referring to both the new shaders and the new architecture.

No worries, though. One reassured PS3 owners that the game's PS3 version is definitely "on the right track." According to Ono, "it doesn't matter what hardware it's running on. It's Street Fighter 4."

The full video interview with Ono is available below. Check it out for more of his thoughts on online lag, balance issues, and more.

nice the ps3 vers of SF4 is a port of 360...great

» Maybe...

A lot of these games are more than likely developed using PCs. I wonder if that is somewhat an issue for PS3 development. Just a thought but if we had computers that had cell processors, I wonder if that would make it less of a struggle.

» Nope...

Seeing how the Cell is a CPU and the shader problem mentioned here would be caused by the GPU.

» Nice

» Interesting note

Did anyone else notice that when he said "One-two combo", Ryu did a one-two combo?! lol I've been in my video class way too long. :S

» wrong gunbehindthesun

both 360 and ps3 versions are ports of the PC/Arcade version.

by xche78x - 2008-10-30 03:26
» oops

my previous comment was for Kei8su.

and yes to gunbehind, that would be easier.

if only ps3 and 360 used X86 cpu then pc game to console conversion and vice versa can be painless. providing the game is not OS dependent (but most pc games are very to dependent to directx which is tied to the OS). opengl games can easily be ported.

by sickofitall - 2008-10-30 03:38
» no, that's not what it means

I believe the title is stating that porting this game to the PS3 is giving Capcom some problems because of its shaders.

» porting from xbox to PS3

what a great way to lower the quality of a game

by Izuna - 2008-10-30 14:44
» Have you noticed...

What does lesser graphics got to do with the quality of a game? Did you even play games back in the NES day?

That qj.net is a fanboy clash site? With more PS3 owners than Xbox 360 owners commenting?

No matter what, if the 360 gets good news it either gets ignored or PS3 owners defend. And if someone comments on how well the 360 is doing he/she will most likely reach less than three stars and who ever attacks his/her comment will get 5 stars?
