Yoshida: first-party games more vital than ever

PS3 - Image 1Shuhei Yoshida, Sony's president of worldwide studios, was recently quoted from the ThreeSpeech blog saying that first-party titles are now more important than ever if a platform is to succeed. He said that it's completely understandable for third-party publishers to release cross-platform games, making the role of Sony studios more vital than ever.

"In this generation, it costs much more to develop one product, it's just natural for third-party publishers trying to recoup the investment from multiple platforms," Yoshida said. "I think that's pure economic pressure, pushing most of the third parties to move from some exclusive titles to more multi-platform titles."

He then commented that Sony understands this trend perfectly and they are aware that if the PlayStation 3 is to compete well with its rivals, it needs to deliver more high-quality exclusive games from its studios.

Yoshida praised big publishers EA and Activision for high-quality titles that are released on the PS3 and the Xbox 360. He hinted that Sony is well aware that the games of the two publishers will continually be released on both consoles, but he did say a little something that would give the PS3 the edge.

"Some of the titles, I expect, will have something extra because of the PS3's abilities and the space on the Blu-ray format," he hinted. That's looking like a more and more valid statement as PS3 titles have started to come on this year.

what u mean no one cares bout blu ray?? hes talking bout the games being made on blu ray disks... not bout the movies... it is a huge advantage for sony, and that should put them ahead of others, a little later in future when games require the blu ray disks...

In case you haven't been doing research the PS3 has a good line-up over the next few years while the 360 has...Fable...and Gears....hmmm maybe Microsoft shouldn't have thrown all their cards (that's a metaphor for good, big titles) in at the beginning of the 360s life cycle. Plus, most of the good games for either system are multi-platform anyway Don't hate because your system has obsolete hardware. Of course, the 360 wouldn't have half of the multi-platform games it has if they weren't such babies and shell out millions so that developers make a 360 version of a game that's supposed to be exclusively for PS3, because, you know, heaven forbid that the console war be FAIR, or that the PS3 get an exclusive game, props to the developers who don't give into this Bull that's going on.

go here

http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=7524

Go to that site and look up any game that came out on xbox and ps3, and I bet every game that was on both consoles xbox win big. ***** even "call of duty 3" the *****in wii beat ps3 in sales. Ps3 lost the number one spot over that dumb ass blu-ray because the console cost to much.

You use vgchartz are your reference? For one thing it isn't even a very credible site to look for sales numbers. Better luck with other methods. NPD has far more accurate data. And PS3, it cannot trump over Wii anytime soon nor can the 360. Both of those consoles are losing to a 2003 hardware console. Why? It is because the console is cheap enough to be produced by Nintendo as it doesn't lose out a lot of money making them. And they sell it at inflated prices to earn the maximum profit. For 360 and PS3, both companies started out with expensive hardware and lose out on the big profit margins. Especially the PS3, it is expensive to make and they sell it at a loss at launch. As for your inaccurate sales data, all I can say is that 360 got a head start, so install base is bigger, PS3 is catching up and it is doing that very well. Sooner or later the install base gap will continue to close and 360 and PS3 will have had the same size for install base. As for the Wii, forget about beating it, there's no hope.

Echochrome is pretty cool, and Home looks like it is going to be great. Home even has Cell Phone integration and that video download service.

You guys should ignore these trolls...their intention is to flame you up a bit - if the 360 fanboy loves his standard DVD then let him be.

xbox only has a slight lead because of its head start, if everyone remembers, there was a huge gap between 360 and ps3 hardware and software sale a year ago, but that gap can hardly be noticed now. "dumb ass blu-ray"? unless you were born yesterday, you would know that the "dumb aass blu-ray" took down HD dvd even when everyone thought it was a losing battle for sony. Truth is, Sony has been in this business for a very long time and it knows what it's doing. So unless you're the wagon-jumper type that only make your judgements base on first-impression, then you should know that it is only a matter of time before the ps3 surpasses the 360. From an owner who owns both console, I prefer my ps3 over 360 when it comes to multiplatium games. Especially recently, there are a lot more to offer on the ps3 version than the 360. Only keeping the 360 for exclusive titles.

I don't see too many PS3 fanboys doing this on Xbox 360 sites, I guess it shows the level of maturity of 360 fanboys.
