This next video that we found may be difficult for most of our readers to understand, to say the least, but it does reveal a lot of things. It's actually a video interview with Gran Turismo creator and Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi.

The guy is Japanese and the video itself is French. Well, in case some of you happen to understand either Japanese or French, just watch the video and share other new information you can get from it.

Despite the language barrier, the interview does reveal a lot of things regarding the making of Gran Turismo 5. Here, you can see how the development team re-created real-life circuits by going there and filming real-life races. Most importantly, we can see here a snippet of the team modeling the cockpit view of a Mercedes 300 SL.

» French guy here ;)

Ok, the video presents the team behind Gran Turismo, especially the founder. He said that the models of the cars are done based on the constructor blue print and that they use a new kind of scanner to scan digitize the car, particularly the inside of each car! This info hasn't been released before as they want to give a new inside driving sensation!

The rest is bla bla that we already know: the game is almost perfect that real driver practice with it, for exemple, Sebastien Loeb (Rallye) learnt the Le Man track on GT before running it last year :)

The sad news is that we might have to wait 1 to 2 years before getting this game !!!

(and the founder wants to get a real Mc Laren F1, he got many car like a Porsches, 2 Ford GT40,...)

Allez les bleus !!!

» holy...

FULLY RENDERED *****PITS....Gran Turismo has evolved again.

» ..

GT is still the top tier simulation racing game.

Nothing on any other console can match.

C - O - C - K - P - I - T

» Well...

...that's a matter of opinion (one which I disagree with btw). But as usual, you can't resist mentioning 'other consoles' instead of just staying with the PS3.

» and a french from Québec here :D

Yeah, exactly what "french guy here ;)" said. An I'm exited about the new feature of the cokpit view! That's what I alwasy wanted them to put!!!! That'll be great! (also great for the guys who're training in the game, lol).

» it's not fanboyism, but truth

Anyway, it's not the fact that the game is on playstation, I would be glad it would be on the xbox 360, so x360 fanboys could play it, but anyway, the game is most realistic of all, and for that, it IS the best simulation racing game.

» Forza 2 matches it, maybe not in your only One console mind but millions of 360 owners will prove it.

Nothing can match it LMAO, Forza 2 is out next month NOT in a year or TWO so it has been outmatched already, you cannot compare a game that isnt made with a finished article so the only way you can compare so far is the earlier releases on the PS2 and they look 100 years old compared to Forza so try looking from all machines perspectives for once in your life..

» It's not truth, it's an opinion..

Big difference senjutsu! My comments are just an opinion too, including the following...

"it IS the best simulation racing game"

Except the word you use is 'racing', and with it's rather poor 'rubber-band' AI (where the cars don't even see you on the racing line), the GT series is hardly what I consider to be the best RACING simulation around. To be the best, you need decent AI, and that's what Forza had over GT last gen. It also needs damage, something else Forza had over GT last gen, since without it you could use other cars to 'bounce' around corners, which is a well known tactic in GT and is far from being realistic. So for me, Forza is the better simulation RACING game, whereas GT is a superb simulation DRIVING game.

GT is more about the cars than the racing, but Forza is more about the racing.

No doubt GT5 will have much improve AI and damage and many other extras (since it's not due for quite some time), but until then, I see Forza 2 as being the best simulation racing game on the horizon.

» that's a silly thing to say

i'm not sure they were really trying to diss the 360... they were just bigging up GT5.

i am not french, and i don't speak fantastic french, but i understood almost the whole of that video... it's odd but there you go, i'm getting very good at understanding french.

yeah, it was all very exciting, there was a lot in that video about how it's all going to be amazing and how it's been like 10 years since GT began etc but tbh i thought the racing looked like a lot of fun.

honestly though creating that many vehicle models... no thanks... that will take eons.

wait a minute... forza 2 isn't out and you're preaching about comparing a game which exists with one which doesn't? well i'd say gt5 exists given what we saw in that video... wouldn't you?

so... a game which is yet to be released vs a game which is yet to be released... i think that's a moderately fair comparison. i know they won't be released at the same time but we can SEE some of gt5 in that vid, so there's at least enough to go on there... also judging on previous gt's faithful recreation of almost every aspect of the cars and tracks modelled, it's fair to assume they'll do as good a job this time.

it does look pretty sharp...

» Thanks for translating some of it !!!

I don't suppose you could translate the comments from Sebastien Loeb?

So that's how they get the cars perfect, they use the constructor blueprints, makes sense really.

No suprising to know that Yamauchi is a petrol head too

» Do you hear of pro drivers training on Forza ?

They have got their driving modelling down sweet on GT, most realistic simulation bar none. Not even GTR2.

Big props to polyphony's attention to detail

» Great

GT5 will probably be the best racing game on any platform so far. This is awesome and we haven't really seen anything yet. My Ps3 is waiting for this game.

by Meh - 2007-05-21 22:10
» Yes!

"Do you hear of pro drivers training on Forza ?"

Yes I have, both in magazines and on the web at the time. I'm sure if we search the web we can find a few reports, as well as GT and Forza comparisons and tests between both games and real life.

In terms of sim, the dury was always out on whether GT or Forza offered a better driving model. Some favoured GT, some favoured Forza, others couldn't decide. So like I said, it's down to opinions, not facts! So as a RACING simulator, I find that Forza offers more than GT.

Graphically, Forza on the XBox was doing more than GT on the PS2, however the talents of the Polyphony team meant they seem to capture a more realistic overall look to their games, i.e. they did more with less (helped by sacrificing better AI and damge modelling).

So props to both Polyphony and to the Forza dev team.

» @Meh

"Yes I have"

So have I, but some seem to think GT is untouchable and yet they have no idea just how good Forza is.

I agree with you that Polyphony seem to do lighting better than the competition, but for me, that made GT look better in replays, but the lack of detail in comparison made it look worse than Forza during gameplay. So besides the replays, photo mode and the total number of cars, Forza on the XBox did everything else better....imo.

» GT5 is just a demo Forza 2 is out in 3 weeks not 3 years

So you see a quick piece of demo of GT5 and say the GAME now exists NO you are wrong its just a demo, Forza 2 is out in THREE WEEKS but GT5 is a year or two away so Forza 2 is the full game GT5 is just an early bit of gameplay demo.

And lets not forget I have no doubt that the company who make Forza could also show a Forza 3 GT5 type DEMO its so easy to make a small piece when the release is so far away..

» You're joking right...

PC Simulations kill the console sims. Lightyears ahead. However, in pure size - GT has always had the advantage. GT4 wasn't truely physics based - no proper tire models or anything. I love the game, but it's not hardcore siming.

GT and Forza (are great but) don't match up to the physics and realism found in PC sims like NetKar Pro, Live for Speed, GTR2, Race, GTL, and a handful more.

» ^^^Er hem Kristian

READ the posts, we're talking about CONSOLE racing/driving sims only, not the PC.
