Xbox 360 vs PS3 - Early Round 1 goes to Xbox

The XBOX launch in New Zealand and Australia begins what will most definitely be a long battle between the 360 and the PS3.  The main philosophy between the two companies is very similar though.  Both see the "next generation" console as a device for not just gaming.  Although Microsoft stands with the "entertainment amplifier" idea because of there current stake in the PC industry, PS3 is leaning toward the Media Center concept, with a much larger hard drive along with music, video, game access via hard drive, etc...

But does this really make a difference?  Well current complaints from developers could shed some light on the subject.  The ability to use the Hard Drive space from the original XBOX for improving performance and game load times is not available for 360 development.

Microsoft's vision differs from that of Sony, which views PlayStation 3 as the central entertainment hub for the home with a built-in hard drive storing games, movies and music without requiring a second "media centre" PC.

So although Microsoft is getting it's "foot-in-the-door" around the world, the PS3 may perhaps catch up and even pass the 360's popularity if functionality, game development and play (such as faster load times) are handled better with the PS3 set-up

"Xbox 360 is first and foremost an awesome games machine," says Robbie "Xboss" Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment division. "But it will also enable you to access the digital assets that are on your PC and bring them to your TV."

Glad to know that a mere article title can get your attention, tho - I just wish you'd read past it. ;)
