Xbox 360 posts its biggest Black Friday, outsells PS3 three-to-one |
Ó
No recession is gonna keep this box from booming - Xbox 360 enjoys the biggest Black Friday in its history, even sweetening its success by outselling the competing PS3 three-to-one. Microsoft's console puts up a strong performance during one of the biggest shopping weekends in the US amidst the financial crisis.
Microsoft Senior VP of Interactive Entertainment Business Don Mattrick was very pleased with this outcome:
We entered into the Black Friday sales period with cautious optimism, knowing that dollar for dollar, Xbox 360 offers more social entertainment value than any other console on the market. Record Black Friday sales in the U.S., coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox LIVE members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009.
With high-profile exclusives, a more affordable price, and the recently-launched New Xbox Experience, consumers are drawn to the seductive beckon of Microsoft's fingers. Black Friday didn't smile so well on Sony's black console, as it eats the dust from behind Xbox 360 on Black Friday.
With the results coming in from Media Create and the NPD, Xbox 360 is really putting the pressure on the competition. Hats off to Microsoft for pulling it off big time over the weekend.

This was to be expected because the PS3 didn't really drop their prices at all. People want to play video games and the first thing they see is $199 or $399 and of course they don't even bother with the feature and focus on the price. Black Friday is suppose to be the day things get cheaper and Sony really needed to have dropped their system by 50-100 bucks to attract the masses.
with the social aspect of online gaming taking off this generation, the head start on both LIVE (from xbox1 days) and 360 hardware release, is paying off big time for m$...
if people want to play games with their friends and their friends have 360s, what do they want?
m$ got to market in the online arena and the hardware arena first...
that kind of an advantage can not be underestimated, and frankly i think sony did...
they relied on the brand and rabid fans to carry them while the rest of the world continues to wait for more value...
sony has been slow to react to consumers...
HOME is still not here... will we ever see it?
controllers with rumble took how long?
still no hd cable standard?
they just keep throwing bigger hdds in it and refusing to drop the price...
1TB drives can be had for $85 and 80more gigs is worth $100... hardly.
Microsoft charges for online play along with using bargain bin parts, lacking features the system should be $200.
first of all 100 dollars is not just for 80 more gigs but also for backwards compatability.
second of all you have to look at both companies if you want to make your claim as the difference between arcade and premium is 100 dollars as well and its a difference of 60 gigs and a chrome dvd drive since both now have HDMI.
Home is somewhat here though as I got accepeted to the beta and its great besides for the fact all that shows is Socom in theatre and every pool table and bowling lane is taken every time i want to play
What you mean Features?
imo the 360 features its pretty good. There is advangtes and disadvangtes on the 360 and the PS3. Of course PS3 is going to have more power becasue of their new technology they develop. Blue Ray.
Remember 360 came early than wii or ps3. What you guys expect a remake of 360? that's why they made NXE.
NXE>Home
Well, that's what Sony gets for not budging on the price. People are more incline to purchase items that are more of a deal then usual over items that are the same price price. It's called impulse buying. After all, why buy a PS3 today if it's going to be the same price tomorrow? Might as well just wait.
I do the same thing on the iPhone app store. I'll buy a 99 cent app and maybe a 2 dollar app but for all the 10 dollar apps, screw it, I wont buy it until it goes on sale.
Sony just keeps blowing all the leads they created for themselves in the past....tsk...tsk....
features that the 360 lacks
-web browser
-bluray player
-rechargable controller
-free online
-built in wifi
the nxe and home are completely different dont bother comparing them
but n e ways what did the nxe really add ??
a new interface (about time the blades were horrible) which was obviously based on the ps3 and wii and netflix which is pretty worthless as with a web browser you can watch most movies for free online ( as if legality is an issue) and psn has most those movies n e ways
the 360 tripled the ps3 because of price not value
The only thing that this tells me is that 75% of all consumers are idiots.
I don't know if is just me, but I think the arcade x360 with rock band just doesn't fit, I mean, it's cool and and all and not to expensive, but a game like rock band that has allot of downloadable songs, and you can't download them because of no hdd. To me it just not right.
I just had to make an account for this cuz i find it really interesting. Now i used to have a 360, n i have a ps3. The thing i dont understand is that when the 360 was 400 bucks all the xbox fans were going crazy over how cheap it was. Now theres nothing wrong with that. but saying that a 400 ps3 is wayy more expensive than a 360 arcade is just ignorant. i mean you pay 250, and u get a memory card plus a contoller. Now im sorry but memory cards are so last gen. They are just useless. This means that all the people that purcased 360 on black friday are brainwashed tv watching robots, and i can bet 90% of all 360ies purchased were arcades. anyway, now they gotta go buy an hdd, eathernet cord, or wireless adapter, and chargers 4 the controller. Oh and u gotta pay for online. I just wanna point out the real bargain thats all. You see microsoft doesnt care about its customers. If they did they wouldnt spend all their money on advertising, and they would make their system better. (fix some of those disc scratching, overheating, freezing etc.). Now ive noticed that xbox fans dont use the "we got more games than you excuse" because ps3 is really pushing for quality these days, and if uve seen the line ups for e3 next year, and the VGAs youd know that ps3 has really good games, not only out now, but also in the future. Im just pointing that out. anyway im not saying 360 is bad, im asking if its worth the hype. obviously its not quality thats selling consoles but advertisements. and MS is da boss at ads. oh and NXE != Home... if uve playd home ud know that because its something huge, and its free. I just want to top it all off by saying...I wouldnt be surprised if half the people who got 360 compalin about rrod in a month or so.
And Sony knows it of you think touting something like blu ray around is a great value. The format was pretty much thrust into your face by the massive price tag when the system launched.
Sorry I skipped ahead but XBOX owners don't need web browsing because we saved so much on NOT buying a PS3 that we could afford a PC too. +)
Again, blu ray isn't a nessessary format because digital downloads and streaming rentals are the future. Not some lame disc that's only slightly better than a regular DVD. Oh and developers have no problems stuffing a massive game like Oblivion into 6 gigs. Metal Gear is a perfect example of Developers who are lazy by not condencing their code like every one else. GTA VI fits on a DVD just fine. What's Konami's excuse???
Rechargable battery built in?? Wow. What if that battery dies? Oh, I see, just buy another $60 controller is that it? Yea, might as well, with games like Resistance 2 you'll need something else to spend your money on because it wont be all the exclusives 360 has.
Microsoft was smarter by having consumers make the choice themselves. Batteries or no. And the thing comes with batteries anyway.
Don't even talk to me about Free Online. Sorry but thats like saying "Basic TV is better than Cable because its free" Sorry, Death, but I'd rather pay for a Service than rely on Sony to offer a free one. Microsoft knows what they're doing and I know I can find my friends, make new ones and avoid cheaters or even get them banned if I want to. Not to mention the early demos we get thanks to Gold membership over Sony's tacky "service". Thanks for nothing Sony but I'm not biting. I'm one of those that isn't so broke from buying your console that I can afford $50 a year for a great online experience.
Built in Wi-Fi... yea you got me there. But then... $200 versus $400 for my console of choice and I can get me a Wi-Fi connecter and I still have $100 bucks to choose 2 or 3 great games on the 360. Maybe an extra controller, or better yet, just plug it into my modem. Wow, tough choices to make here, but at least I get to make them as a consumer. Not just sit there and take what's givin to me like a Sony boy.
Ignorance is bliss, Death... I bet your still really happy now aren't you? Microsoft had a great year and black Friday. It's going to keep getting better. Just let it be, bud, because you aren't going to fight Sony's battle for them. You aren't going to win.

fanboy much vphid?
Anyway I think you're trying to say GTA IV not VI. A common fanboy mistake. I'm not going to get into any details because obviously you'll refute my claim by posting a page long comment that no one has the time to read + makes no sense. Much like above.
Suffice it to say that Rockstar games released an official statement regarding missing some basic features that Vice City had but IV didn't. Because it was impossible to fit on the Xbox dvd9 format. This is also the reason why GTA V will look like IV. Because there's no space left on the crap dvd9 and MS refuses to update because well....they're *****s.
As for MGS 4. Kojima said that they were running out of space on the BLURAY and had to compress whatever could be compressed to fit it in. So yeah....in your dreams maybe it can be put on the Xbox in 1 disc.
I fanboy lots!! Seeing as the only real point you've adressed is my dyslexia, you obviously fanboy too. But at least you accept my other points as valid. Thank you . And NO, sorry, Kojima could make that game fit on a DVD. As short as it is and as lame as the multiplayer was, that game would be just fine within 9 gigs. If a much larger game like Bethesda's Oblivion can do it, so can Kojima's MGS 4. GTA V will supposedly look like GTA IV (?? who told you that??) only because it took Rockstar so long to design the engine and they are going to exploit it like crazy. Forgive me if I'm wrong but didn't Vice City look like III but prettier? Wasn't San Andreas just a bigger version of Vice City with 3 smaller cities but more country space? Really, get in the know before you open your mouth. Anyone who's fairly observant could tell that when a company makes an engine, a la Unreal Engine 3, things will look similar and play similar. I mean God of War took 3 years to make but GoW2 came out only a year later? Oh, gee, how did they ever do that??? Put two and two together next time Easy Essar. I'll give you a hint, it doesn't add up to 22. ^_-

GTA IV only eats up 6.7 gigs on DVD, bubba. Plenty of room for other "missing content" as you say. Do the math.
