WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 cancelled for PS3

It looks like yet another PS3 game is going down the drain - it was recently announced on the German THQ website that the PS3 version of WWE Smackdown! vs RAW 2007 has been cancelled. The publisher wants to concentrate resources on the versions for the other platforms, as the PS3 version would have taken several months longer to develop.

While this hasn't been officially confirmed in a press release yet, numerous sites have picked up this news which was originally posted by a site administrator on THQ's German forums, so it will most probably be true. Certainly unfortunate news for wrestling fans hoping to play this title on Sony's next-gen hardware. But seeing as THQ regularly releases new titles in the series, PS3 gamers will get their WWE action sooner or later.

Now without the Playstation 3, WWE: Smackdown! vs RAW remains due for a release in November for PS2, PSP and Xbox 360.

I could care less. I never really like the wrestling games. The gameplay gets pretty fusturating. Once one person gets momentum and does good damage, its almost impossible to get back and win, and you end up rubbing your thumbs off just to get off the ground and out of grapples.

Anyways, as the article says, we'll eventually get on on the ps3, you'll just have to stick to the ps2 version for now.

You hit well Steve... they can do the xbox360 version on ps2 (but less in graphic)why do hit for PS3.

Even in the US THQ website they remove the PS3 logo.

When i look at my xbox360 i have a tear in my eye.... I use to be a Xbox fanboy . But when i see news like this it's should make me happy but it's not...

The developers always associate xbox360 with ps2 and handle....Maybe xbox360 is not next-gen.

Developers says wii it's different to develope = next-gen

A lot of devs said the ps3 was a lot easier than what they expected and epic games said that all devs that say the ps3 is hard to program on are stupids because the ps3 was easy to program on ( they will release unreal tournament 2k7 on ps3 with the best graphics ever seen )

ps: anyway I don't like this king of games, but this may discourage buyers, this is not good for the ps3, THQ have lost a part of my respect...

I have a 360 its great and all so far but no leaps and bounds just yet. kinda like the dreamcast before the ps2 came out. but the diffrence is this machine is around to stay with news like this stemming from various devolpers latley its gonna be first party city for the ps3 and well EA games of course. not because of the hardware. no the system itsself is like the ps2 when the xbox came out with the ps3 being the latter. it has the potental to be great its just the cost of making it so. what it seems like so far is companys were all eager to produce ps3 stuff strickly because of the way ps2 took off and the sony legacy but with sony dropping the ball latley and people attacking it left and right like bush(but he deserves it) devolpers are gonna take a wait and see approach to the console like what the did with the 1st xbox.

Summary Games seem to be better for ps3 when built from the ground up instead of being ported from an engine thats been used on the 360 or other consoles.

so expect original ps3 only titles to show true power and ports to either not exsit(which is less likley) or the game be released further from the date of the other games.

Not that the game looked very impressive, but it's sad to see them cancel it nonetheless. Endless Saga got shut down too, but it's not the end of the world. I mean, if MGS was cancelled then there'd be hell to pay. By the way, I wonder if Starcraft: Ghost will come out any time soon. I know they wanna remake it for next-gen and all, but damn.

i mean i really couldn't care less about this game... i haven't played a wrestling game since the 16bit era... but still, just the fact that a publisher straight out dropped a PS3 version of a game they're producing because it's too hard to develop for, it's kind of scary. the ps3 already has plenty of critics and this news is just adding more fuel to the fire. it continues to get this bad press that might end up hurting it come launch date...... anyway, hopefully not! i know the ps3 still has plenty going for it... sony pr just needs to step up because there's so much negativity floating around the ps3. hire me!

Challenge? PS3 this gens Gamecube? No. It's all about viable market.

Their cost of development vs. risk is extremely high. There is no point in making more units than consoles so it only makes sense to wait. WWE 2007 is not a game that will sell when WWE 2008 comes out on PS3 next year.

Hi, i read the recent article posted almost EVERYWHERE...

People are crying about smackdown vs Raw not being able to make it on PS3...

But the fact it, it was NEVER Confirmed to show up on PS3...

It was a media mistake saying that it would come out on PS3, and THQ followed with that lie because they knew it would heartbreak alot of fans by saying "They are Lying! no SvR2007 for PS3!!"

Well... that PS logo is for PS2

For PS3, it says that "This title has not yet been concept approved for PS3 by Sony Computer Entertainment America."

In short, either THQ never had intentions to make it for PS3 or Sony just didn't approved this title for PS3...

If you were at Halo3.com would they write "warning not for Playstation 3", of course not.

My guesses on why it was cancelled ..

1) PS3 is too difficult to develop for ..dont associate difficult with meaning it's next gen and the other systems aren't. The multiple threading required to get performance out of PS3 is difficult and time consuming.

2)I guarantee shortages on the system. Not because of high volume sales but poor yields on the cell.

3)The system is just too damn expensive and $600 for the real PS3 not the crippled version is way to high with our damn near crippled economy due to high energy prices and the weak dollar.

The XBox 360 requires the same "difficult" programming to get great performance. Games on PC's are programmed with parallelism in mind now too. For the time being, it is the future of gaming and programming in general.

work for ea in warrington (near manchester, england) and both are difficult to program for.

As for this game, its a good move by THQ. There isn't going to be alot of PS3's around, so theres no point in using resources on a PS3 game that might not sell to its full extent. Plus, they will look at the PS2 version and possibly think that this is the only version they need for the Playstation (except PsP).

It is just a romour though at the moment. I've been on IGN who cover the wrestling games like its religion, and they don't mention anything about it being cancelled as yet

The game didn't got cancelled - it got DELAYED, for a full year.

Why? You have a reason in above comments: SONY didn't approve this game in it's current form, and you can watch the trailers to see why.

Animations are disgusting, and other than graphics this game is just like a PS2 version.

actually smackdown games are horrible because of the controls and gameplay. Its not hard to pull off moves by button mashing, the angled directional movements create annoying 3d movement. The gameplay, like the show, is flawed and drawn out.

Speaking of the shows, the storylines are litterally soap opera's for men. Drama, deceit, greed, betrayal, love, hatred; its all there. Also to top it off, wwf and smackdown is scripted, the moves are practiced to make them look like they hurt but are manipulated so the brunt of any move is taken by the recoil of the person doing the move hitting first. Yes they do bleed and get injured and hurt by weapons, but not as much as they should. A few years ago there was a show on the secrets of wrestling on the discovery channel, how they have to follow scripts, practice the moves so they dont get seriously injured, and if they do they have to pay out a good bit of cash for damages. Oh and they do still use blood packets and pills. Ever wonder why a wound from a crack to the skull with a chair that has a wrestler oozing some blood one week, isnt even noticable the next?

Its obvious that the devs didn't want to put the time into making the game at the standard level of quality that sony demands from its game's in order to be licensed. If devs like these deside to be lazy and only make thier games to the level of quality to fit previous generation systems like ps2 and 360 (most 360 games look like previous generation xbox and pc games) then they are gonna get a big fat rejected letter from sony saying we don't want your crap playing on our console. Allowing games that look so crappy and previous on the ps3 will only give the ps3 such bad publicity for looking out of date and not 'next gen' just like what happened to the 360. And allowing devs to be lazy will only spoil them just like what microsoft did to all their devs.

Its kinda like how sony and nintendo had to push devs to not be lazy make their games in 3d and not 2d during the era of the n64 and ps1. If they didn't then ps1 and n64 on its release would have been plagued by games with snes and genesis graphics.

It has been delayed, due to SONY not accepting it in it's current form (SONY America didn't approve it), so they have to work on it, to make it pass SONY's quality requirements:

Why don't they do the same procedure for 360 version? Cause M$ doesn't use quality standards, they take everything they can, which in this case means they are taking current-gen game with better graphics.

Guys the game is cancelled for ps3 its even confirmed on http://ps3.ign.com/articles/720/720091p1.html if you look at the info box on the right of the page..

for the reason why, i heard it was that they want to release the game on all consoles simutaniously which they would not be able to do for the ps3..

so they decided not to release a ps3 version of the game... they are still commited to a ps2 version,

and as of what version would be better... well its a no brainer that the 360 will be the better version.. just take a look at the screenshots of the ps2 version and the 360 and you will see the difference
