World in Conflict for Consoles Canned - Image 1

"Dammit."

The wait is over! Because there's nothing to wait for anymore. It seems that plans to release World in Conflict: Soviet Assault (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) for the consoles were scrapped by Ubisoft. Sad cookie.

Chalk this one up as another victim of Activision's merger with Vivendi. World in Conflict was originally under the banner of Sierra, a subsidiary of Vivendi Games. After the merger though, several projects were canceled or dropped. Of the more high profile ones were Ghostbusters, Brutal Legend, and Assault on Dark Athena.

Soviet Assault was saved when Ubisoft purchased its developer, Massive Entertainment. But a change in management also means a change of vision, and the console releases were scrapped. The news came when Ubisoft was asked to comment on a release:

World of Conflict: Soviet Assault will be released for the PC later this month. A console version of World in Conflict is not planned for release at this time.

Maybe it means they're going to ride out the economic slump a little?

» Sucks

It sucks that this game has been canned. I'm one of those people who would have bought this game.
