Word War Nth: Sony tells MS that "PS Network is groundbreaking" |
Listed in: PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 Tags: Chris Satchell, playstation 3 updates, PlayStation Network, SCEA, Sony
Ó
Yesterday we reported how MS head honchos Michael Moore and Chris Satchell ganged up on Sony calling its Playstation Network a "disaster" and claiming the company itself does not have the talent to kill Xbox Live. Now it's time for Sony to give back some lip. In response to MS, SCEA senior director of corporate communications Dave Karraker says the PlayStation Network is far from being the video game industry's Titanic. In an interview with GamePro, Karraker said "I would argue that consumers worldwide, to the tune of over 200 million PlayStations, PS2s, PSPs and PS3s, have decided whether or not Sony has the DNA to deliver hardware, software, and services to suit this industry."
Using Gran Turismo HD as an example, Karraker said "it points to the potential of the PlayStation Network and the kind of groundbreaking content we plan to offer."

Everyone does it, there's no need to take Sony's words out of context and certianly don't completely misquote them with "PS Network is groundbreaking" You know perfectly well they never said that.

seriously though, read those statements. just like every other one. whenever anyone brings up sony's problems this gen (of which there are many to choose from) their only reply is "well look what we did the last few times". it's starting to remind me of those guys at the bar who are 40, live with their mom, and can't get over that touchdown the scored at the state championship in high school. they're living in the past, and this industry is all about the here and now. then, i guess they're limited as to what their argument *could* be, since microsoft really wasnt lying to begin with.
they need to quit with the "look, we dominated before" and start talking about how theyre gonna turn it around and do it again. i for one think they dont have a plan. if so we wouldve heard about it.

PS2 didnt have online...it sold 112 million consoles....
Online isnt the main factor to a console. People have been playing games offline since the beginning of gaming.

With the sony network being free, any upgrades will be slow to come. If there is "upgrades" it will be in the form of them finding more stuff to sell you. Fanboys think that being free is great but where's the money to run it come from? Definately not out of sony's profit forecast that's for sure. Brace yourself for advertising out the ass!
That's why I get my PS1 games for PSP by ripping the old discs and converting the ISOs to PSP format. That's what they get for requiring you to buy a PS3 to download them. Idiots.

I have read some of your comments in other stories Mr. Common Sense. You are VERY biased and seem to like the xbox a lot more, that is evident. Give sony a chance will ya, they know what their doing. This is exactly how the ps2 launch went, EXACTLY.
This is coming strictly from a fellow psp homebrew user: ps3 can support linux. I know it is limited, but there are many good uses for it. For example, VLC player comes in many forms on different operating systems, including fedora and Gentoo. All you have to do is install the player and you have access to hundreds of codecs for playing and watching your favorite movies. I don't own a DIVX DVD player, so this is just what I have been waiting for.
In conclusion, just because you clearly couldn't wait for the ps3 and bought a 360 instead, you shouldn't constantly try to make the ps3 seem inferior. I am not saying that xbox is better than playstation, or playstation is better than xbox. And don't think the price matters either. Microsoft gives you choices, but who really needs choices anyway. I would rather buy a guitar that has all the greatest pickups, humbuckers, and volume controls then a "build your own guitar kit" (alright bad example but you get the idea). All i'm saying is, don't be hatin!

Sony didn't call their service groundbreaking. They said that it has the potential to provide groundbreaking content. Whether or not GT-HD is groundbreaking content, that's debatable, but your comment completely misses the point.
And comparing Sony to that 40 year old guy in the bar who scored the winning TD in a high school state championship is a bit weak, isn't it? Really, if you are going to make a comparison, shouldn't it be more like comparing Sony to some NFL dynasty that has won the last 10 Super Bowls in a row (most in convincing fashion), and now on their 11th season aren't in first place after the first few games of the season. I think track records do matter, especially when you're only two months into the season.

But how many games do you expect to buy per year? You do the maths. XBL costs one game per year, compared to the average number of games most gamers purchase per year, it's nothing for what you're getting imo.
Also, why should you need to approach your parents to pay for a service like XBL for the next 4 years or more? I know you're 16, but are your parents going to be paying until you're 20+? Don't you want to find work before then, even if it's part time. Whose going to pay for the games?
I know you're young, your loyalties are towards Sony and you're trying to be honest, but I would happily pay $50 per year for an online service like XBL on my PS3 :) .... when I finally get one this spring that is (I'm in the UK).

IF....
Sony has features on their Network Platform such as downloadable content, movies, online play, etc....
THEN
MS says "ahh, they copied us."
OR
IF....
Sony does these features in a different way...
THEN
MS says "well, we do it this way (more established, blah blah, etc, etc) and thats why Sony cant beat us"
EITHER WAY....
Sony loses
something to ponder about.
ways to solve this:
BOTH Sony AND MS need to STFU
some notes on me:
-i have a 360 and play gears and doa4, both online
-i dont have a ps3
-i play my ps2 still (more frequently than my 360)
-im a hypocrite (in that i try to defend sony even though i have a 360 and support it almost as much as the ps2 and soon to be ps3)
-in other words, a sony fanboy that has a 360 but doesnt think it is as mighty as alot of xbots say, yet doesnt think other sony fanboys should say the ps3 is the ***** right now either.
-i guess you could say im the biggest target for bashing, even though i believe my points are correct, and any smart person should think before they reply to me, thanks

the ps3 60 gig ver and one game with hd cable is 758 bucks so 760 bucks
and that is if you walked in and walked out better deal goes to the 360 and you get to choooooose what you want not like the ps3 you are stuck with it the 360 as of now is proven even if you took away 2 of the games the price would be about the same and the 360 would still win it has the most next gen games at this moment and they have crushed alot of the bugs and added funtionality to it .and hell lets face it if i do not want the hd-dvd drive right now i do not get it and i get another controller and the recharge kit hall and another game or get a few games the are used for 25 bucks a pop . the ps3 is not a DEAL and to have unproven tech that might not take you just wasted 200 on the thing for the blue ray drive you cant take out and at this time drive size of the hdd is nothing because if you have a computer you can store all your stuff you want on the mane server so that means i got like 2 tera of space and i can use it for more than gamming wow who would of thunk .winner 360

PSN is designed with an almost all open kind of network. So the message is, For PSN you can do anything you want to.
For Xbox Live, its you can do things as long as they fall within these specifications. If you dont do it this way, then you cant do it.
In the end, PSN has a chance to beating Xbox live in every single category, since PSN is already better for playing games online with 40-player lag-free matches, all they need to do is work out their software on the PS3 itself and make PSN larger.

I also havn't seen anywhere you can compare which games people have, and the progress on those games...
Just a few...
Sony tried to defend a diss on their software, by quoting HARDWARE sales...so they are still burned in my books....Sony has absolutely NO good software. Their video converters for psp, and AC3 music converters blow nuts hard....I think MS with the amount of experience they have in the software field deserve to gloat a little. Hell, we know Sony acts like they are King Sh*t all the time...
As far as xbox live is concerned....get a paper route for 2 weeks, or ask for it for xmas every year....or collect 13.69 cents a day to pay for it.... (5000 / 365).

XBL gamer were playing 50 player online lag-free last gen on the XBox, because of dedicated servers for BlackHawk Down (even though the game was average).
Developers can setup dedicated servers on XBL too, just as some did last gen. More would have been nice, but in the end, it's up to the developer. So this gen, expect 40 player or more lag-free online games sometime in the near future on the 360.
For EA games, XBL gamers connect onto EA's online system, so the online gameplay and performance is EXACTLY the same for both 360 and PS3 gamers for EA games. And if EA can do it, so can others.
It's easy to speculate, so come back WHEN PSN is beating XBL in every category, but I doubt this will happen, at least not this gen anyway.
