Wolfenstein August sales goal missed

Wolfenstein - Image 1Raven Software was on a mission, particularly for the month of August. The mission: to get Wolfenstein ( PC, PS3, and Xbox 360) to beat Madden NFL 10 sales for that month, and if they succeed, designer Manveer Heir would reimburse everyone who kept their receipt, proving that they indeed bought the game before the end of the said month.

There seem to be many misplaced ideas in that singular context. First of all, Madden NFL 10 is a sports title - a very strong one at that. Wolfenstein is an FPS. They're from different leagues; why pit the one against the other? Secondly, if you have to lure your audience with cash reimbursement just so they'd buy the game, then it just doesn't show your confidence in the game itself.

As it stands, the gamed did not even make it to the top ten of of NPD's August sales results. Long story short, Madden NFL 10 scored touchdown by miles from Wolfenstein and, well, let's just say nobody's getting that reimbursement.

» Wow, had I known that...

...that the designer was saying he'd reimburse everyone who bought the game if it beat Madden's sales ....

..then I *still* wouldn't have bought the game.

I would have bought Wolfenstein over Madden also. But the godfather of the FPS games, it would still never be enough to top Madden 2010.

Wow, this QJ writer and the Gaming Union guy must be retarded. This was so obviously a joke it's not funny.

Actually, it was funny until you took it seriously. Raven Software knows they're never going to sell more than Madden, get a clue.
