Wishful Thinking on PS3 Subliminal Ads

PS3The PS3 is one much hyped-up console, not only because of its staggering features but also because of the equally staggering price that comes with it (compared with other next-gen console's price tags). As such, many find the PS3's features either appealing or appalling.

Some say that the said console is way ahead of its time, while others believe that we're just not ready for it yet. While others focus on the Blu-ray, the STI Cell Processor, and 1080p; game journalist Joseph Berkley speculates a particular PS3 spec that seems to merit attention: the 120 FPS/hertz feature of PS3 games.

Electronic devices deliver images to us via frames. How long these devices deliver the said images to us is measured by frame rates, either expressed as frames per second (FPS) or hertz. Apparently, the current standard is 60 hertz, as the latest HDTVs are reported to produce around 60 hertz. The 120 FPS the PS3 offers seems to be quite an achievement compared to what we have at the moment. However, science says that few people could process outputs at 75 FPS. So Berkley wonders what could the remaining 45 frames be for. His answer? Subliminal ads.

Berkley says that Sony will flash "Really Quick Images flashing on a Screen" that will coax us into buying super-sized fast-food cheeseburgers and fries (yum, yum) every time we turn on the PS3. He adds that Sony will introduce a technology in their PS4, that will enable the said console to send signals directly to our brain egging us to follow its every whim. Basically, every PS3 user would turn out to be consumer junkies controlled by various PS3-sponsored ads.

So why is the PS3 taking so long to produce? Sony is still coaxing other advertising mojos to promote their products via the PS3. And why will Sony win the next-gen war? Because the 120 FPS subliminal ads will pawn you all.

"super-sized fast-food cheeseburgers and fries". Man, I thought I came here get some news but I got this. Is QJ still a news website?

by BloodiedWraith - 2006-08-24 17:29
» This website has gone to hell

This is absolutely retarded. I come here to see news, not blatant bull*****. QJ.net, you're becoming just about as bad as IGN; and you really don't want that.

» lary

god, people get lary if one news article isn't totally 100% serious.

look, although subliminal ads in the 'extra 45 fps' are a JOKE there is still the issue of whether or not ps3 will actually be outputting that kind of refresh/frame rate...

personally, once the frame rate exceeds 25 i can't tell the difference... you can if you wave your hand in front of the screen, but i need my hands on the control pad.

anyway, do we need 120 fps?

This may be a joke, but the way games are utilizing ads it seems feasible

» a joke but a good idea

Sony gonna need to use subliminal messages if they plan on beating the 360.

by Hoonatic - 2006-08-25 01:58
» not funny

Just to humour you QJ - I'm fairly sure this kind of advertising was banned in the 60's or 70's when they did this in cinema's. So it would be illegal to do the same thing on PS3.

On a serious note though, I'm not blaming QJ for printing rubbish like this as there is little else to publish regarding PS3......

Sony had better start the launch hype rolling soon or they will take a long time to catch up.

» 120 fps does matter

I've been playing first person shooters since doom and I can tell you that the jump from 60fps to 120fps is a big one and you can tell the difference. If this were true on the ps3 then it would be the best first person shooter machine. This article is funny but is there any truth to the ps3 being able to ouput 120 fps?

by D BLACK - 2006-08-25 03:19
» there was actually some news in there for me

like, i didn't know the PS3 was capable of 120 fps. is that true?

by anon - 2006-08-25 05:04
» 3d

apparently, if you can get framerates high enough, you can make 3-dimensional images without the need of any left/right eye filter or special glasses...

» haha

Nice one, I thought it was pretty good.

For those who are confused:

people can pick up about 240 Fps as an average...not necesarily all being completely consiously

» F-OFF

What your saying is allready happening... qj.net actually uses that technology to advertise.

» What??????

Wait, I'm sorry was this suppose to be real or something? Seriously are we just gettting bull S*** from these people? The 120 fps is amazing and all but the last 2 paragraphs just made this article a joke.

by PCFAN - 2006-08-25 16:51
