WIP: PlayStation 3 firmware downgrader, Infectus needed |
Ó
Sony PS3's firmware. You'll be needing a PS3 that sports an Infectus modchip to make the downgrader work though.
We've been getting a lot of news regarding different dev teams' progresses in cracking the PlayStation 3 code, and well, they all look promising. We've seen the
PlayStation 3 owners, heads up! We've just gotten word about a work-in-progress project that will, in theory, downgrade your decrypting of the EBOOT.BIN of game discs, the modded USB PS3, and the alpha build of the Backup Launcher, among others. Now, we've got something to flash Sony's console and downgrade it when the need arises. We'll quote NDT (the one who posted about the said hack) on the project's use:
Using this tool you can modify a NAND backup in order to let the console think it has a lower Firmware version, so later you can use an official Sony upgrade PUP file to "downgrade" to the version you need.
It has been tested to patch all PS3 Firmware dumps up to 2.10 so far, but is a work-in-progress as we still need to test re-updating more thoroughly.
According to NDT, they will not be releasing the downgrader unless an exploit that needs a different firmware comes along. Interesting, eh? We'll keep you posted on more updates regarding this so stay tuned.

Why would you want to downgrade your custom firmware in the first place?
It's funny how PS3News keeps coming up with all of these PS3-related breakthroughs (ISO loader, EBOOT decrypter, firmware downgrader) but have yet to release any real evidence of their work. And I don't buy the whole "not releasing the downgrader unless an exploit that needs a different firmware comes along" bullsh*t. Feel free to prove me wrong, but in my opinion... this all sounds like a petty news website trying to get attention.
You are quite right. They are a worthless site. When have we ever seen any ACTUAL evidence from PS3News? All their so called 'WIP's' hardly classify as news. - An ISO Loader that only works on a Dev PS3 (where ANY code can be run) - A downgrader that only works with a modchip (oooh genious! /sarcasm) Type in 'PS3 News' in Google and it comes up with "This site may harm your computer" Usually sites that give out genuine news don't harm your computer... PS3News were also the ones who tried to destroy and defame Dark_AleX and his work on the PSP.
