Why the NA Yakuza 3 boxart is different

Didn't like much the Yakuza 3 boxart for North America? Yeah, a lot of other people have been critical of it too. But there's a good reason behind this deviation from the original Japanese boxart. There always is.

Apparently, the reason why the art cover for the NA version of the much-awaited sword-slashing action game is different could be because of the upcoming DVD release of the live-action adaption of the first game.

See that dragon symbol in the background? And that dramatic half-face? Yep, they're also on the DVD cover of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. And in case you weren't aware, the launch of these two Yakuzas aren't too far apart too.

The DVD is coming out on February 23, 2010 while the game, Yakuza 3, is out by March 9.

nah, doesn't matter to me what's the cover. it's what's inside that matters anyway.

So we'll have two crappy box arts instead of just one. Seems reasonable?
