What's up with the Japanese Heavy Rain boxart?

We've seen all sorts of styles, publishers going creative with the boxart, getting a message across, blah blah blah - happens all the time. Understandable, you gotta get some attention on the shelves. But for the Japanese boxart for Heavy Rain, you gotta wonder what got into their heads to go with this one.

So there's the origami boxart, then the wet and steamy alternative. Coming to Japan is...

...a big nose. I get it - he's up to his freakin' nostrils in heavy rainfall. But c'mon - it's a nose (and yeah, a mouth and a chin).

that's really... strange, the box art looks like a flu medication add, or something like that

I think it's pretty nice, makes you think why he is "drowning" in water whiel raining, still i prefer the EU.
But this one is really cool, its more than a "nose".

This concept box art makes perfect sense to me. It's showing that decisions you make in life will always be altered on the path you choose. Showing that the picture box art itself is telling us that this character can't seem to make the right choices in life b/c every one he makes, drowns him in his own tears/darkness of rain, making it harder for the character to live or move on. It's quite creative, if you have an imagination :-)

How many people are going to delve into the artistic and life themes present in this boxart other than those who already k now quite a bit about the game already? I would assume most would just thing "WTF? That's a big nose!" and then move on to something else. It's an attention getter, but not really for the right reasons.

I'd have to say that this one beats the origami cover art by a mile, at least in my book. Although, (maybe it's just my American sensibilities) I like the US boxart best.

But, this one does instill some shock/unease on the observer and implies some real depth to the story. Much more like a movie poster than the European art, and more symbolic than the US art.

This is what i would have prefered instead of a paper duck art or whatever that thing made out of paper on the North American Japan boxart is better than NA & EU versions. It's actually looks like it goes along with the title of the game.
