Warhawk's Dylan Jobe... jeebus grinds, the PS3's the SERVER? |
Ó
Okay, so we were going through GameInformer's interview with Incognito Entertainment's Dylan Jobe regarding Warhawk, and towards the latter half of the interview, something jumped up at us. We could have block-quoted the relevant section, but to keep things short and sweet, we'll break it up instead:- Traditional online console gaming: "youÂ’re actually slave(d) to the corporate mothership, and theyÂ’re actually hosting the server for you in kind of a pseudo peer-to-peer network."
- Traditional online PC gaming: "more egalitarian" (as a player can choose to host the game on his machine)
- Warhawk online PS3 gaming: "Well, letÂ’s just allow the consumer to host their own server if they want, in their living room. They donÂ’t have to be connected to Sony."
And, in addition to that, because of the way our dynamic split-screen stuff works, you can have your own PS3 hosting - you can have 20 or something other guys connected to it - and then you can have a four-way split and then youÂ’re all online at the same time.
There was only one thing that had to be said after this, with obligatory stupefied drooling: "pacchonbo-mo-inoinoi chakaretapatton pankorakettonto-n..."
Okay, on a more serious note, a lot of work did go into balancing to make sure that lag wouldn't have any effect on the game's weapon scoring. There's a lot more stuff that was said in the interview - we'll cover that in a bit - but for the purposes of this article alone, there isn't much left to be said but: "kokoreccho pie-nto-ra ma-nima-ni ungarafoccha-ra..."

Holy *****...so let me see if I got this right...you can have a four-way split screen? Damn that will be cool. This info got me interested more in Warhawk
Okay, that sounds cool, except what happens when the host has a connection issue and all the players are dropped from the game? That would suck quite a bit. Gord
These guys are trying to make it sound amazing when it's not. UT on Xbox, you could set it to run as a server and serve 16 player games. Gears and Halo 2 (among MANY other games) use one box as the host and others connect to it...that's why so many people complain about host advantage.... pentium 600 computers can run 64 man counterstrike servers.... Wow, PS3, pushing the envelope....
I agree. big whoop. Most people won't have connections to support 32 players anyways. When you're the host you need hella upload speeds which most people don't have, especially if you have dsl. And 4 player split screen......come on now that's only worthwhile if you have a 100 inch screen to play on otherwise you can't see ****
they could always do a ping or speed test to see is the host is a compatible "hoster"(not sure if thats a real word ^_^).. if the host's speed is too slow the system just says "your internet is too slow, get a better connection!!!" besides cable and fios is pretty popular now.. fios can handle what.. 15 to 30 mbps 15 being the cheaper one..
that they think warhawk looks great but still they've managed to squeeze online game hosting out of the thing, as well a 4 way split screen. it's supposed to be a 'look at how powerful that machine is!' type article... i'm not at all overwhelmed either, but that's the general tone. when details are scarce they'll grab at any titbit, even if it's not very exciting.
"if you want" you can use your PS3 as host. if you dont want you are a simple guest.
4 Way split screen while hosting another 20+ players online with one ps3 console!!!! JISEY CHRIZZE
i agree with this comedy guy. sure, maybe you can't see much when in 4-way split screen, and if you are hosting and have a bad connection everyone is dropped... but it's just there because it can be, it's there for you to choose whether you want to use oit or not, just because the system is powerful enough to do it, so why not?
Yo chill out, once da ps3 get somthing good u pplz always twist up sum stuff to make it sound bad, but i bet if u had this game ud b happy it has it, so stop complaining bout stuff just because ur not getting it...
Yo, thats exactly wat I was expecting from these crap-box 360 fanboys i'm loving this news and i can't wait to get it SO IF YOUR GETTING IT AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR MESSAGE WRITE "YEA"
