Virtua Fighter 5 gets top spot in Japan |
Ó
The Wii and the DS are still dominating the charts in Japan, but at least now, the PS3 is putting up a fight. We didn't mean anything mean by that, we're just trying to say that the PS3 now has some solid numbers up in its favor. What do we mean by solid? Well, how does number 1 sound?
If you look at the recent Media Create survey, you're going to see that Japan is going crazy over SEGA's latest version of their arcade classic, Virtua Fighter 5. Here's the list of the top ten games sold in Japan for the week of February 5 to 11, 2007.
- Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3) - 48,346 / new
- Wii Sports (Wii) - 45,897 / 1,004,555
- Wii Play (Wii) - 36,090 / 879,432
- More Brain Age (DS) - 32,800 / 3,963,712
- New Super Mario Bros. (DS) - 29,026 / 4,118,078
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) - 27,519 / 304,113
- Wario: Master of Disguise (DS) - 26,815 / 185,695
- Harvest Moon: The Island I Grew Up On (DS) - 26,804 / 106,212
- Luminous Arc (DS) - 25,676 / new
- J-League Pro Soccer 5 (PS2) - 24,468 / 131,541
Prognosticating eventual PS3 dominance is still a bit too hasty though. We'll update you when we get solid info on how this affected PS3 sales for that week. So what's up next for the PS3 in Japan? Well, there's the Dynasty Warriors-inspired Gundam: Musou; here's to hoping that it'll be good.

Now where's Tekken 6?
is really lame. That people was reporting some days ago that VF5 was sitting in shelves and Japanese gamers had not interest on it, maybe they were in a hurry to join the chorus of PS3 haters :(, now VF5 is kicking in the very ass of all these people.
VF5 will give a taste to Japanese gamers of next-gen graphics and the Wii will look pretty outdated.
Um.... wtf? I thought this game was doing bad in Japan? Oh well, shows how it out sold Gears of War in japan.
Can't wait to get this game when it hits the US!
Well I wouldn't call 50.000 games sold a great success anyway, selling almost the same than a 4 month old game
Yeeeeeeeeea, I think this will be one of the first really good games to come out.
Japan do not like 3rd person shooters so Gears done very well in Japan, VF5 has only sold 45 THousand hardly 4.5 million like Gears has sold now is it so wait and see when it is released to the rest of the world before making such a stupid comparison.
PS3 Virtua Fighter 5 you feel NOTHING when you hit or are being hit !!, may as well be playing it on the PSP
I really do wonder about Japan and why the console makers are that bothered I mean Virtua Fighter 5 is number One with
a lowly sale of 48,346 ?, seems a very low amount for the number 1 title ?..
Yes if you have a 360 the game will be worth the wait as you get the added bonus of fighting multiplayer over Xbox Live and also shock/forced feedback on the pad which they dont get.
to play this online...oh, sorry
