Video walkthrough for Fedora Linux on your PS3

Here's a video walkthrough for installing Fedora Core 5 Linux on your PS3. Actually, it doesn't really show how to install it, but rather, just what goes on in there when already installed. Made by Klippoth, the voice-over is pretty clear so the stuff's quite understandable.

Now, check out how fast the thing boots up. And with them cute penguins, too. Anyway, logging in the system is quite easy. As for logging out, you'd see just right before the video ends that if you hold down the power button for about five seconds, it will reboot you straight back to Sony's SGE interface. Normally, it would send you back to Linux.

So there. To all you Linux/PS3 fans out there, hope this helps.

It aint fake at all, you retard! Sony have released step by step intructions of how to do this themselfs. So next time get your fact straight you retard. And BTW yes the graphics of 1st gen ps3 games are the same as 2nd gen xbox360 games, but what about when devlopers begin to make 2nd gen ps3 games ey? then there will be graphical difference

Nice to see the X interface works...and all the word and graphical apps...might actually be worth it if you didn't have a PC and didn't mind a linux box...usually the arguement is there are no games, but...you have the PS3 games.

uh then there will be 3rd gen 360 graphics, tard. graphics arent about consoles 100%, its also about developers. concidering 360 is easier to develop for its a high chance that 360 will have better graphics sooner than ps3 will. the graphical difference you speak of will be that ps3 will have poorer graphics.

the load time on the ps3 is awful! i mean, compared to ps2s load times its a god send, but 360 loads much faster graphically and system wise. im very disappointed in my ps3 purchase so far.

that must have been what they were talking about when mentioning it can be upgraded, dont know about graphics and cpu but hard drive and memory sure would make another operating system run well in the forseeable future and help to prolong the ps3

windows requires a x86 IBM code compatible processor!

there are linux distributions like this fedora, that boot on PPC (Cell for example)

you need every program to execute on PPC.

Windows doesn't run on PPC CPU's

there are x86 emulators for PPC, but then you cant run windows because of the less ram.

as you can see: the PS3 doesn't even have enought ram to keep the icons in cache.

there seems to be no icon cache on the PS3's fedora! icons have to be reloaded all the time...

so the PS3 really has too less ram for running linux like a PC! PS3 is no computer! no matter if linux or not!

It took him a good 2-3 mins to get to the main menu....and does every game "reccomend installing to HDD to improve load times" I'm sure there is no reason they do that.

So what's the point of a big ass HDD when you have to install all your games to it ? What happens when you have to install a 30+ gig game ? Pretty stupid if you ask me....
