Well, well, well. Look what we have here! It's a LibTiff Exploit for ... the PlayStation 3! This creation is brought to you by Giulio 19992, and is said to specifically work for FW 2.70. In doubt? Check out the video below.

Are you sold? And the instructions are as easy as pie, too!
  • Unrar
  • Copy the Exploit.tif file to a Pen Drive (Or Memory Stick)
  • Switch on your PS3
  • Select Photo and press / (Triangle) - Show all
  • Again / on the file
What a very pleasant surprise, yes? It's been a while since we had any exploit done on the PS3, and this one is definitely major!

Do take note, though. According to the dev, your PS3 will crash for a few seconds. But that's expected, so don't panic. If it lasts for a few minutes... then, okay. I suggest you do panic. Oh, and steps 3-5, you can repeat "EVERY TIME YOU WANT".

If you want it, come and get it.

You could get the same effect copying over an insanely high resolution image taken by something like the hubble telescope and then try opening it.

Will this be able to get a HEN/ Downgrader working? And also does anyone know if the file sharing thing works on 2.70, or if anyone is working on it? I thought someone had it working awhile back, but i haven't heard anything since.

How many times must it be explained to you that a CRASH and an EXPLOIT are VASTLY DIFFERENT THINGS?

Without a debugger running in the background and a means for bypassing the hypervisor, a TIFF bug would be both

a) unusable, since we wouldn't be able to determine how to run code, and

b) useless, since the hypervisor would just lock the system down if we DID run code.

The PS3 is NOT A PSP.

Also, it helps to take a peek at a user's videos to get a feel for their level of knowledge.

He also has a "TIFF Exploit" video for FW 1.90, which does precisely the same thing - makes the XMB hang.

NOT AN EXPLOIT. NEXT.

Too bad they just announced a 2.76, saying it's a "Minor Update"

I'm pretty sure Sony releases a new FW everytime there is a chance that homebrew is coming.

Well I guess if Freeplay says it isn't an exploit, then it isn't an exploit. If anyone cared though, it doesn't work on 2.60... time to update... :(

Anyone have a reason not to update from 2.60?

I'm glad sony patched it. This is just going to be psp 2.0 if they let little exploits like this get out of hand. The first exploits to the psp weren't huge either and didn't involve anything but little homebrew apps. Now hardly anybody buys the games and the system suffers from it.

I wish they would just find something else to hack. Now we are just going to get a constant back and forth of them finding exploits and sony releasing firmware 2.999999999999 just to patch it instead of working on cool updates that people care about. The end result isn't that rewarding for the user and in fact hurts us. Make an open source computer game if you are so into programming.

1. this is not a exploit

2. What bull***** whole did you get for facts from? your ass maybe?

3. i have a PSP (HACKED) with 5.00m33-6 And I buy UMD games left and right and so does 1,000s of Other HACKED PSP users.

As for the PS3 getting hacked, I really don't want Game but up as.

1, Games to damn big

2, don't have a Blue Ray Burner

BUT.. i would wish for a hack to Unlock the CPU and GPU so you can emulate WinXp and have a Kick ass computer Or even just run Linux With Full speed.

1)The titles of the article says EXPLOIT

2)The title of the article. If you want to call it my ass, be my guest.

3)so do I and I haven't bought a single game since then

wut are you saying? Its not impossible to download a ps3 game. Not all of them fit to the full 50GB. You could actually fit MULTIPLE games to a single BD. You can already run linux on the system. Go do something with that instead.

Freeplay is probably right but its still ok to dream. I Had a dream like Martin Luther KIng That ONE Day r machines will be beast capable of doing anything. zzk2001 is right my psp is unlocked and I buy UMD 's even though the shi@t breaks on me. I wish there was a place 2 buy replacement shells 4 UMD's .the psp is just like music. they lose some money but not everyone does that.

You posted the EXACT same news yesterday.

It was the same file, but on the PSP.

I told already that it wouldn't lead anywhere on the PSP (Archaemic and myself worked for a while on this file), and I'm convinced it will be the same on the PS3.

It's not an exploit.

And it won't be when it crashes your iPhone, your Mac, your iPod, or your Debian, either.

So yeah, big news: the PSP and the PS3 both use the same version of libtiff. How surprising!

it's not an exploit

the Exploit.tif file is just a binary data file with a .tif extension.

$ file -i Exploit.tif

Exploit.tif: application/octet-stream

$ identify -verbose Exploit.tif

identify: Not a TIFF or MDI file, bad magic number 0 (0x0). `Exploit.tif'.

the ps3 freezes just because it cannot open the file. the same thing happens for some video files. i'm pretty sure the user of this video does not even know what libtiff is.

if you remove the first 16 bytes (that are only 0s), you'll see it's a tif image.

But yeah, not an exploit. The guy just took the same image as the one that crashed the psp yesterday

that hacking the ps3 is bad for it...i disagree, the major cause why xbox and wii r still in the lead is because they have hacks and we still see new and good games on them everyday

I have 2.70 and there was total response when I clicked on the file. I tried it over and over again. I pressed the triangle and selected the file over and over again getting the "Corrupt Data" warning. Nothing to see here.

wait...what? Your complaining about piracy and saying you do it? If you feel so strong that downloading games for the PSP hurts it, then don't do it.

You are just a hypocritical ***** who does not understand what he is talking about.

1, No ***** PS3 games don't use the BD-DL 50gigs Most will keep using the 25gig BD and at most use maybe 10-15gigs (for now) But Again you can't pace the .iso that big on the PS3 as it's a FAT32 format.

2, WOW you read the Whole title

(then is MUST be a exploit )

3, I never said,

(impossible to download a ps3 game)

so try not placing words in people's mouths

4, Linux on the PS3 does NOT use the full power of the Cell Or GPU Making it worth less

(like running linux on a old 386)

(not worth my time)
