Video: How to fix your PS3's Yellow Light of Death |
Ó
If the Xbox 360 has its notorious RROD, the PS3 has its own YLOD, or the Yellow Light of Death. But unlike the Xbox 360's hardware issue, the YLOD affects only a very small percentage of PS3 units. Still, that must suck for those included in that "very small percentage".Well good news, folks! There's now a solution for that problem, thanks to he who goes by the name Gilksy1. If you check out the attached PDF file, you'll see that the procedure is actually very similar to how you would handle an RROD (that is, if you do own an Xbox 360 as well).
It's very user-friendly, with step by step pictures and stuff. Still, as the whole process requires opening up your PS3, be reminded that you forfeit your warranty, okay? But really, rather than do it yourself, just send it back in for repair if you're still covered by your warranty.
We don't see any PS3 price cuts coming at any time soon, so might as well don't commit PS3 harakiri.

I wanna thank the guy who released this info for free, and didn't try to cash off it like some others did, Gonna gives this a crack tomorrow on my friends YLOD ps3, hopefully it works!!
Wow, look at all that dust. I never would have imagined there being so much. I wonder how long it took for all that to accumulate.
after giving it a go tomorrow ill post up my result here :P
Heat guns are not always recommended when reflowing pcb's... I'd stick with someone who have a Reflow Station/Machine to do this...
er QJ, wheres the video? i can only find a .pdf
Put the hammer down, back away from the PS3. You appear not to be in possesion of the skill set for this project. Reading and Comprehension.
for some reason i download the file but i cant play it.
Don't know how you messed up there but you should change the title of the article to something that doesn't have Video: in it.
This is the best news i had heard in the last two weeks since my ps3 overheated. tried the guide this morning, now got a working ps3. Hats off.
it doesnt say anything about a video kid...learn to read.
the title says Video: How to fix your PS3's Yellow Light of Death
its a peice of crap as it is! throw it out into the garbage can tbh and then enjoy some high quality entertainment from Microsofts very on Xbox 360 they made that console from scratch unlike the PS3 copying it and leeching off the Wii (sixaxis)
ROTFL How much does Microsoft pays you? I want that job!!!
STFU fanboi go back to ur failstaion 3!
I don't even think you care about the systems lol I think you just want to piss people off, that's why you bash it every time it's mentioned in an article with a comment unrelated TO the article
the title clearly says "Video:How to fix..." dumb prick
wow man, if you wanted to bash the ps3 use another thread. We are trying to fix our console hear. like Navani said, i dont think you care about the systems, you just want to piss off some people. btw. Nice tutorial, always wondered how to do that to fix it, it worked
what a ***** did you read the article about the people who worked on the new chip or something similar basically i believe they summed it down to the xbox 360 rippin of a lesser quality chip than ps3, the ps3 was leading the development and the 360 took an earlier version to get a one up anyway im sure theres truths and not truths about this but may i simply say, the xbox wasnt the first console, and it wasnt the gaming system too first introduce wirless controllers, nor was it the first pc face it everything you have in your house was ripped off by someone and improved slightly to give you the quality product you have now its called developing maybe you should look that word up, also how dare you compare the ps3 to the wii the 360 is better than the wii in terms of hardware and the ps3 is better than the 360 in hardware. anyone who argues otherwise is wrong now you have to take into consideration the best software, thats debatable, but i know i would whether have a hardware which i yet to reach anywhere near its full potential than one which has come to its end, and it is nearing is end, also has the wii even started its software lifespan????
Anyone care to explain how heating up the motherboard chip and letting it cool fixes the problem?
it heats the solder up, and remelts it back into place? like the 360? havent read the pdf, so not qualified to say either or!
don't want to sound anti-social here, but had a quick squint at the PDF! If anyone here truly has a love for their PS3, and is'nt electronically minded, then, GET A PROFESSIONAL TO DO THIS FOR YOU(not a mate who thinks he is)!! or it could all end in tears! cheers!!
kinda funny that an xbot...a fanboy of the video game system with the biggest failure rate of all time..is calling another system a piece of crap..
are the 2 dweedle dee and dums that live in the garbage can. You heard it everyone he said "throw it out into the garbage can" so he and his mommy (who lives in grandma's basement) LOL can have a Playstation 3.
