Vid: Lair "rampage" gameplay trailer |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: Factor 5, playstation 3 updates, Sony
Ó
Behold:
Things worth noting? Visually it's The water, the shimmering shields, the small details, the lack of hyped up contrast (something many other "next-gen" titles are guilty of) to hide the lack of detail, and the fire effects. Gameplay-wise, it's the many means of engaging opponents large and small, airborne or otherwise.

That's complete BS. Which next gen games are guilty of this exactly? Name them!
Stop falling for the simplistic reasoning fanboys use in order to TRY to explain why certain 360 multi-format games look better than their PS3 counterparts (despite the fact that the textures are actually the same in most cases).
As for Lair, the water has always looked great, we know this already. What I'm looking for is something which will indicate that the gameplay will be great too, but unfortunately, this video just doesn't do it for me. Sorry! :|

That water is insane.
Officially beats gears on graphics. Yes i have played Gears as well..
Sorry but the way that water rippled when that ship blew up (dev walkthrough part 2) is by far the nicest graphics I have seen...
They also stream textures... Bye Bye 360...
Not fun? Yea whatever. Its not your TYPE of game then but it certainly looks fun to most.

What other game have we only seen Alpha footage for....OH yeah Halo3. Lair will look even better when its released.

1. lair is looking great. a flying game with good graphics since well flying means more land and more land means more geometry which is bad if you want ultimate graphic games
2. gamevideos.com needs better servers, they have buffering issues.

Please tell me what streaming textures has to do with anything....let me take a guess, you think that means they will FINALLY be able to take advantage of blu-ray and larger texture sizes ? WRONG! When will you little kids learn it has nothing to do with blu-ray or harddrive, but the limited amount of ram in the PS3.....you can stream textures all you want, from wherever you want, but they must be loaded INTO RAM for them to be displayed on the screen.....so face it, your textures will not get any better then 360's because they both have the same amount of ram, if not a little less on PS3 since the XMB takes 96 megs of system ram compared to the 360's dash wich only takes up 32....

As I asked, NAME the game on the 360 which has hiding less detail than the PS3 version. Remember, there are screenshots, videos and reviews available.

"The Xbox 360 version and PS3 version are functionally the same in nearly every respect, but you will find that, surprisingly, the Xbox 360 version will look a tad better, particularly in atmospheric particle effects. Otherwise, the only real difference between the two is the 360's achievement points."
So, you were saying?

Having downloaded and looked at the HD version of those videos, the game still fails to impress.
Yes, the water is excellent (except the odd looking ripple effect when a ship explodes), but the framerate still needs work and the effects and explosions are really lacking imo. :|
In fact, the whole game is lacking imo, and therefore I really don't see this being a great game to play, but I hope I'm proven wrong.

And seriously, Mass Effect looks like plain crap from what I've seen online.

The fact is, there is not ONE review ANYWHERE that has compared multi-format games that have come to the conclusion that lower resolution textures are being 'hidden' in the 360 version compared to the PS3. Absolutely NONE!
The 360 version tends to look richer than the often washed out PS3 version, and most reviews and head-to-head comparisons so far seem to favour the 360.
So like I said, it's a fanboy thing, a way for them to put their brainless heads in the sand rather than accept the fact that, right now, multi-format games released at the same time for 360 and PS3 tend to look better on the 360.

Why the denial? What are gamers like you afraid of?
Look at the first pic in the comparison shown here on QJ recently (where Sam is holding the guy);
http://xbox360.qj.net/Sam-Fisher-vs-Sam-Fisher-Splinter-Cell-PS3-360-comparison-shots/pg/49/aid/89109
You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see that the 360 version CLEARLY has most detail than the PS3 version.
Download the comparison video from IGN and this can be seen throughout the game! And yet the 360 version is still argueable darker than the PS3 version, yet with MORE detail.
So the fact that 360 version of games tend to be less washed out and has richer colours than the PS3 version has NOTHING to do with the amount of detail in the game.

And that comment makes you no better than the guys you complain about.

Then recall that a lot of the proponents of the 360 note that they do prefer the higher contrast as it makes images seem sharper and more catching to the eye.
Then go to the VG cats web comic about Brown-ness, contrast and light bloom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_bloom) and how it loves you.
Brown. Mmmm. Yummy.

That's really just your opinion, but to be honest, I'm not sure why you even mention Armored Core 4, because graphically, it is VERY average. Yes there's the comparison video (of lower quality than the game btw), but there are countless games which are graphically better than AC4 on both 360 and PS3, therefore this game tells us nothing about the 360 or PS3 graphically.
That said, I agree with Gamer that 360 games are not hiding detail by being darker. Take AC4 for example, if detail was lower and being hidden, then it would be easy for someone to take a screenshot, adjust the brightness/contrast and reveal the lower resolution or completely missing textures compared to the PS3 version, and yet this has never happened, for ANY game where gamers make this claim.
So it's an empty claim. One which has no basis in fact and therefore is certainly based on myth.

Nah, it's a bad example (see my post above).
