Vid: Lair "rampage" gameplay trailer |
Ó
Behold:
Things worth noting? Visually it's The water, the shimmering shields, the small details, the lack of hyped up contrast (something many other "next-gen" titles are guilty of) to hide the lack of detail, and the fire effects. Gameplay-wise, it's the many means of engaging opponents large and small, airborne or otherwise.

It's hot, one of the few games I'm looking forward to on the PS3.
"lack of hyped up contrast (something many other "next-gen" titles are guilty of) to hide the lack of detail"
That's complete BS. Which next gen games are guilty of this exactly? Name them!
Stop falling for the simplistic reasoning fanboys use in order to TRY to explain why certain 360 multi-format games look better than their PS3 counterparts (despite the fact that the textures are actually the same in most cases).
As for Lair, the water has always looked great, we know this already. What I'm looking for is something which will indicate that the gameplay will be great too, but unfortunately, this video just doesn't do it for me. Sorry! :|
Gamer does have a point there, especially about next-gen games hiding details.
Well go watch the Dev Walkthrough its clear they are not hiding details.
That water is insane.
Officially beats gears on graphics. Yes i have played Gears as well..
Sorry but the way that water rippled when that ship blew up (dev walkthrough part 2) is by far the nicest graphics I have seen...
They also stream textures... Bye Bye 360...
Not fun? Yea whatever. Its not your TYPE of game then but it certainly looks fun to most.
This is Alpha footage people......
What other game have we only seen Alpha footage for....OH yeah Halo3. Lair will look even better when its released.
Try it on your TV set, try turning up contrast or try turning it down, what they call "shadow details" are usually hidden on default levels contrast/brightness levels on most TVs. Ask a projectionist or a homecinema buff, or even a photographer.
That was a reply to highps3 I'm not that person!!
i have 2 things to say.
1. lair is looking great. a flying game with good graphics since well flying means more land and more land means more geometry which is bad if you want ultimate graphic games
2. gamevideos.com needs better servers, they have buffering issues.
all dark and color horrible on xbox360. Lair looks more fun than Halo 3.
360 games are also guilty of that.
Gametrailers.com is better!
It's NOT the game that sucks, it's the video. A little YouTube streaming video can't capture the amazingness of how this game looks in the 720p version (IGN, etc.)
lair is in 1080p not 720p FYI
how little some people truly know...
Please tell me what streaming textures has to do with anything....let me take a guess, you think that means they will FINALLY be able to take advantage of blu-ray and larger texture sizes ? WRONG! When will you little kids learn it has nothing to do with blu-ray or harddrive, but the limited amount of ram in the PS3.....you can stream textures all you want, from wherever you want, but they must be loaded INTO RAM for them to be displayed on the screen.....so face it, your textures will not get any better then 360's because they both have the same amount of ram, if not a little less on PS3 since the XMB takes 96 megs of system ram compared to the 360's dash wich only takes up 32....
is it just me or does lair look kind of crappy graphics wise. i mean there's not much detail. lots of stuff going on, nothing really looks cleaned up enough to be anywhere near final. i hope its not released like that.
why are people trying to downplay the games sony has for this special september? first a crappy looking video of heavenly sword and now lair. lair looks great. just look back at the tokyo game show last year. they had a demo that everyone said looks great. even the people of xplay loved it and they are the biggest xbots on tv. Ill just have to see the game on my own tv.
Looks like Eragon, and what I saw of the video on TV the gameplay looked terrible especially when their was Two people on dragons fighting each other it looked boring, and it also looked like there was also some slowdown. I would try before you buy on this one.
HighPS3 overlooks games like Mass effect eh, bye bye PS3....
360 games are NOT guilty of that. It's a claim made by dumb fanboys like you who simply can't live with the fact that, for whatever reason, many 360 multi-format games are looking better than the PS3 versions.
As I asked, NAME the game on the 360 which has hiding less detail than the PS3 version. Remember, there are screenshots, videos and reviews available.
From the Armoured Core 4 review on Gamespot;
http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/sim/armoredcore4/review.html
"The Xbox 360 version and PS3 version are functionally the same in nearly every respect, but you will find that, surprisingly, the Xbox 360 version will look a tad better, particularly in atmospheric particle effects. Otherwise, the only real difference between the two is the 360's achievement points."
So, you were saying?
...to improve the effects and framerate.
Having downloaded and looked at the HD version of those videos, the game still fails to impress.
Yes, the water is excellent (except the odd looking ripple effect when a ship explodes), but the framerate still needs work and the effects and explosions are really lacking imo. :|
In fact, the whole game is lacking imo, and therefore I really don't see this being a great game to play, but I hope I'm proven wrong.
I can't believe you guys have such a hard time admitting a game on the PS3 looks impressive.
And seriously, Mass Effect looks like plain crap from what I've seen online.
So you think Mass Effect dont look good eh ? righhht ok, lets see how many sales Lair gets after people see its actual so far poor looking gameplay and then compare sales of the amazing Mass Effect sales..
don't u remember that qj article? I never believe interviews anymore.
Look SP:double agent comparison and I remember Carbon.
What has that conveniently distorted view got to do with anything?
The fact is, there is not ONE review ANYWHERE that has compared multi-format games that have come to the conclusion that lower resolution textures are being 'hidden' in the 360 version compared to the PS3. Absolutely NONE!
The 360 version tends to look richer than the often washed out PS3 version, and most reviews and head-to-head comparisons so far seem to favour the 360.
So like I said, it's a fanboy thing, a way for them to put their brainless heads in the sand rather than accept the fact that, right now, multi-format games released at the same time for 360 and PS3 tend to look better on the 360.
TROGDOR WAS A MAN......THEN HE WAS A DRAGON MAN.......BUT HE JUST A DRAGON......BUT HE WAS STILL TROGDOR!!!!!!!!
BURNINTATING THE COUNTRYSIDE BURNINATING THE PEASANTS. BURNINATING THE PEOPLES. AND HE SMASHING THROUGH COTTAGES!!!
THATCHED COTTAGES!!!!
AND THE TROGDOR COMES IN THE NIIIIIIIGHT!!!!
"Look SP:double agent comparison"
Why the denial? What are gamers like you afraid of?
Look at the first pic in the comparison shown here on QJ recently (where Sam is holding the guy);
http://xbox360.qj.net/Sam-Fisher-vs-Sam-Fisher-Splinter-Cell-PS3-360-comparison-shots/pg/49/aid/89109
You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see that the 360 version CLEARLY has most detail than the PS3 version.
Download the comparison video from IGN and this can be seen throughout the game! And yet the 360 version is still argueable darker than the PS3 version, yet with MORE detail.
So the fact that 360 version of games tend to be less washed out and has richer colours than the PS3 version has NOTHING to do with the amount of detail in the game.
"And seriously, Mass Effect looks like plain crap from what I've seen online."
And that comment makes you no better than the guys you complain about.
Say: "(despite the fact that the textures are actually the same in most cases)." Then follow it up with "certain 360 multi-format games look better than their PS3 counterparts"
Then recall that a lot of the proponents of the 360 note that they do prefer the higher contrast as it makes images seem sharper and more catching to the eye.
Then go to the VG cats web comic about Brown-ness, contrast and light bloom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_bloom) and how it loves you.
Brown. Mmmm. Yummy.
Perhaps I was refering to many other supposed "next-gen" PS3 titles. :) But of course if started writing a certain way then folks would say I'm biased or I'm a fanboy of a certain console or a certain game. No where in this article was I talking about the xbox 360 so keep the xbox 360 out of this... Yeah, the video didn't do anything for you. I empathize. It didn't do anything for me either. It did for some folks I know. So I do recognize that it does for other folks. I guess it had something to do with the boss battle video that I linked too. Anyhow, sorry the this video that I offered to you "failed" you.
then you haven't seen the video I guess. Yeah sure the crispness of the heat coming from the engines look a little smoother but the environment colors and contrast don't look as good as the PS3 version. Check out the comparison video if you don't believe me.
Armored Core 4 is a good example.
You give this warning to everyone because you made the mistake of buying Eragon before you tried it. Bad move man, bad move.
"but the environment colors and contrast don't look as good as the PS3 version."
That's really just your opinion, but to be honest, I'm not sure why you even mention Armored Core 4, because graphically, it is VERY average. Yes there's the comparison video (of lower quality than the game btw), but there are countless games which are graphically better than AC4 on both 360 and PS3, therefore this game tells us nothing about the 360 or PS3 graphically.
That said, I agree with Gamer that 360 games are not hiding detail by being darker. Take AC4 for example, if detail was lower and being hidden, then it would be easy for someone to take a screenshot, adjust the brightness/contrast and reveal the lower resolution or completely missing textures compared to the PS3 version, and yet this has never happened, for ANY game where gamers make this claim.
So it's an empty claim. One which has no basis in fact and therefore is certainly based on myth.
"Armored Core 4 is a good example."
Nah, it's a bad example (see my post above).
Eragon movie sucked, Eragon game sucked, Lair game will suck.
Mark my words....
