Valve: We didn't put our best foot forward on the PS3 |

Here's something definitely new. Valve is owning up to their missteps on the PS3, saying that they didn't put their "best foot forward" on the console with the release of The Orange Box.
More important than the admission though is the revelation that they are working at making thigs better on the system.
Chet Faliszke, Valve writer, gives us the lowdown:
"We thought that the Orange Box didn't put our best foot forward with the PS3 community. W don't want to do something like that again on the PS3. We want to give PS3 owners the best possible experience," he said.
"Some of that will come from us learning and getting better. Before we can go onto the PS3 again, we want to make sure we're better at developing for it."
That's definitely good to hear.

as far as im aware its a microsoft baby
and microsoft keeps it exclusive
opengl i think has now won, think about every console (not sure about xbox) is compatible with opengl even the iphone .....#
But yeah so happy valve is working on the ps3, loved the orange box, although there were some technical problems
Be Brill to get some other valve game on, but i cant see the likes of L4D coming to it, microsoft is going to make that exclusive

Building a simple game on a complicated system is of course going to be a LOT easier than building a full-blown, complicated game. Especially if you are porting that game from something else.

I own a PS2 now (repaired one that got thrown out) but I hate playing it because it looks poor on my HDTV. If my PS3 played PS2 games I might actually go out and buy them. Although granted, they would probably be second-hand so Sony wouldn't make any money from it.
I wonder if the rumour of some PS2 ports coming out on PS3 is true? Could be tempting.

I've never been a big fan of FPS (they were innovative until about Quake/UT - it's been the SSDD since). I "tried out" Portal on my PC - i think it is one of the most innovative games i have played. Never played HL2/TF2 in any great capacity, tried DODs once or twice, even had a crack at CSS once. The only other game that interests me is the Left 4 Dead games - Port that shit to PS3, i'd look at buying it, oh and a Full game with the portal gun would be awesome.

Seriously, how can you take it so personal that they trash talked PS3. Almost all developers trash talked PS3 as they were pissed at Sony for making such a poor development kit.
Its not like Sony deserves anyones worship. Does Playstation Home do half of what they promised? What the hell happened to The Getaway? Does Heavy Rain look half as good as the technical demo? The answer is a big NO!
So please grow up. You wouldn't do any different if you were them. Why would any businesses throw money at a console that costs a lot more to develop for BEFORE its proved to be popular enough to make a profit on. That is all Valve has done, they waited as they saw Xbox 360 as a cheaper and far more profitable system at the time.

Credit to Valve for owning up to their errors, but they do seem to take their time with everything other than Left 4 Dead these days and Team Fortress 2. Sure they're good games, but there are others Valve.
Valve, you make great games, please improve your own reliability though. Your one of the few company's I like anymore.

keep your crappy games for the crappy platforms. we will stick with our current developers who have taken the time to learn how to use the system.

Fact: Less Hackers on PS3, since PS3 has stayed unhacked up to this day, plus Sony isn't like microsoft, idk, but i don think that they'd make your console useless! take that RROD and douches!!!!! i still like XBOX though, just not bias, just some exclusives, i wonder when or if ever the companies combine to make one super, awesome, chocolate coated, sexy, seducing, pile. . . of . . . God console??? anyone think that'll ever happen? Halo on PS3? or . . . nothing on XBOX? idk, rather have blu-ray, or the new thing (the Red-Ray Disc!!!!!!!!)oo oh, while XBox stays with DVD lololololololol olol!

Them admitting this and saying it is very mature honest. While I hate Gabe, I respect Valve's comment about this. It's very apparent the Company as a whole don't share the same views and opinions as Gabe on the console, and considering the sales are increasing alot and there being shortages, it's the best time to develop on the PS3. The demand is increasing and ND, GG and SMS has proven that makes incredible games like Uncharted, Killzone 2 and God of War 3 isn't hard, just takes some time and hardwork.
