Indeed things are looking up for the Ps3. It had a rough start but it'll be shooting up into the console race soon enough.

What ever happened to "PS3 is a waste of time" or "PS3 is a disaster", Gabe? I hope the PS3 does become dominant (or atleast a major player ala PS2 era) so Sony can say "Valve is a waste of time" or "The new Valve game is a disaster".

Valve may be butt munches but that doesn't change the fact that they make really good games. Half-Life series is one of my favorites and I can't get myself to stop buying them as much as I'd hate to after all they've put Ps3 owners through. But like, Annony said...I hope PS3 turns around one day and says, 'Valve is a waste of time". That would be epic :)

You guys all say they suck just because of the things they said about the ps3... which were probably pretty accurate at the time, but now that they see the ps3 actually has a chance they've decided to start developing for it. So don't say they suck, they're games are amazing and you all know it.

No, obviously you haven't used Steam, or played ANY game on the HL2 engine.

i'm a ps3 user and i love valve.

Here's why Valve has always been against anything that's not Windows or XBox:



Their engine started off as a customized Quake engine. When they did the updated it to the new "Source" revision, they ripped out all the OpenGL capabilities and implemented all their new functionality solely in a DirectX backend. I'm not sure if this was a genuine architecture decision, or if they were just so _______ far behind the release date that they realized they needed to decrease their scope.



At any rate - they seemed to have ended up with an engine that was not very highly abstracted from DirectX.



So, it's not that Valve has ever seriously considered non-MS platforms - it's that they never really wanted to put in the effort needed to undo the mistake they made when they bought lock-stock-and-barrel into MS's proprietary API.



At least, that's my understanding based upon things I read years ago.



Now, as far Valve games on the PS3 - I think that would be great. I wish they'd recompile their games and offer native i386 Linux versions via Steam while they were at it too.

You are all entitled to your own opinions. Personally, I know that Valve games are great. See, I am a 360 fan and dislike the Play Station 3. But I'm not blind when it comes to seeing the PS3's potential. I may not like it but I know its a great console. Many of you say that Valve's games "suck" just because you don't like them.



As I said, its your opinion. But if one's denial runs so deep, it can only hurt ones self. As for this choice to go over to the PS3, I humbly disagree. Whatever Valve chooses is there choice.

When Valve ports their games to home consoles like the 360 and PS3 the quality drops. The games are still good but not as good as their PC counter parts. Plus half life 2 is a pretty old game you wouldnt think it would look better on the PS3 and 360, not worse.

I think everyone is missing the point !!!!!!

Of course they love the ps3 thats why they have had a change of heart and obviously they are not doing it for the amount of money that will be flowing once the ps3 machine gets into 110% overdrive

Go forth and multiply, I bought the hl2 game of the year edition for my pc and admit i do like it BUT to be kicked in the bollox by a company you support financially does not bode well with me and im sure others aswell
