Valve reconsiders PS3, chance for Left 4 Dead to come over |

Skeptics are now having a change of heart towards the previously doubted PlayStation 3 console of Sony, and Valve is leading the pack. Hungry enough to get a piece of the PS3 pie to eat their own words, eh?They've been very vocal about their dislike for the PS3. Gabe Newell isn't obviously a fan, and the company doesn't do PS3. But it looks like that's about to change now. Doug Lombardi has seen the light, so to speak, and told CVG that the console's success has got them rethinking about their position on making games for it.
"We're always evaluating what's happening in the marketplace and certainly something that's happening in the last couple of months is that Sony's managed to sell some boxes." An astute observation coming from Lombardi.
The logical thing to do in business then is to put aside personal preferences and go with what's gonna be good for the company. And as the current stats would support, the PS3 is indeed a viable console for Valve to invest in.
The PC remains to be their top pick, though, with the Xbox 360 coming in at second place because of hardware similarities, Lombardi explains. But fact remains that the PS3 is getting their groove on in the race now, and so they've "got to re-evaluate that for what it is."
So does that mean there's now a bigger chance for Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360, PC) to be coming to the PS3? "It's 50-50 right now," Lombardi replies. Apparently, there already are some talks brewing about the PS3 version seeing as how the game is getting all the right exposure and it's looking to be a hit.
Hopefully it's not too late for Valve to kiss and make up with Sony after all the harsh words said. Let's hope they don't suffer the same fate as Charlie the Unicorn. Shun the non-believeeeer... Shuuuunnnn-a.

I am a firm believer that we must boycott these companies... that's the only way they'll "Shape up" and stop making such retarded statements such as Pink Boy Gay Newell does.
Speak with our wallets, because they don't seem to care when we speak with our voices.

Their engine started off as a customized Quake engine. When they did the updated it to the new "Source" revision, they ripped out all the OpenGL capabilities and implemented all their new functionality solely in a DirectX backend. I'm not sure if this was a genuine architecture decision, or if they were just so _______ far behind the release date that they realized they needed to decrease their scope.
At any rate - they seemed to have ended up with an engine that was not very highly abstracted from DirectX.
So, it's not that Valve has ever seriously considered non-MS platforms - it's that they never really wanted to put in the effort needed to undo the mistake they made when they bought lock-stock-and-barrel into MS's proprietary API.
At least, that's my understanding based upon things I read years ago.
Now, as far Valve games on the PS3 - I think that would be great. I wish they'd recompile their games and offer native i386 Linux versions via Steam while they were at it too.

As I said, its your opinion. But if one's denial runs so deep, it can only hurt ones self. As for this choice to go over to the PS3, I humbly disagree. Whatever Valve chooses is there choice.

The comments were purely a mistake and did not mean to offend anyone
Of course they love the ps3 thats why they have had a change of heart and obviously they are not doing it for the amount of money that will be flowing once the ps3 machine gets into 110% overdrive
And on a side note were all stupid and believe every word they have said and forgive them with all our heart
Go forth and multiply, I bought the hl2 game of the year edition for my pc and admit i do like it BUT to be kicked in the bollox by a company you support financially does not bode well with me and im sure others aswell
No more money from me on my steam account
