Valve: PS3 is incredibly important to us |

Valve's love-hate relationship with the PS3 seems to be over. After a rocky start, coupled with some nasty words here and there from Valve's Software head Gabe Newell, the studio seems pretty determined to win back its fans and has once again reaffirmed their support to the console. Speaking to CVG at Gamecom, the studios project manager Erik Johnson said:
"PS3 is incredibly important to us. We don't feel that the PS3 users had the Valve experience that we like to deliver. So it that case it's incredibly important to us; we kind of fix everything wrong in the products that we delivered before for the PS3, which we thought were good but weren't quite the Valve experience."
Johnson added that bringing Steamworks to the platform is a big part of solving the problems that Orange Box PS3 suffered.
"We're looking forward to solving that and having Steam on that platform also is incredibly valuable to us. In a lot of ways that is the way we define a customer having a good experience because it's the way that we keep talking to that customer over time."
Valve recently surprised a lot of PS3 gamers when Newell showed up to Sony's E3 conference to announce Portal 2, along with Steamworks, for the PS3, saying that it would be the "best console version of the game."

Flip that, on the PS3 side, Sony is fine with partners tapping into the PSN with their tech if it benefits the gamer and has no such rules about DLC and how much a company wants to charge for such content. Couple that with a massive boost in sales in the last year, great momentum going forward and developers really showing off their skills with the power of the PS3 these days and BAM, you've got a flag raised in Vavle's crosshairs.

I mean, while all TF2 updates are arguable because of 360 memory limits (then again maybe MS didn't let Valve do them because they didn't want to alienate Arcade users) Left 4 Dead's Crash Course DLC as well as L4D2's Passing were completely free on the PC while you had to pay for them on X360.
(I actually made myself wonder - maybe Valve didn't do TF2 updates for 360 as people would have to pay for each one of them? Sure as hell those updates bringing lots of new content didn't really fit Microsoft's plans)

Still, I like valve and the modibility they allow....like LBP but FPS style (garry's mod anyone).
Still the internets recorded their statements on how PS3 was "hard" and they were too soft to give a damn....until it got a bigger install base....

but after all that bullshit? not for me

the execs of valve made their past choices based on numbers in regard to the PS3. it wasn't a bright choice coming from microsoft to allow valve to do what they want on XBL.
microsoft is starting to lose key studios that would develop exclusively for the 360 such as bioware (to EA), bungie (to activision), and now valve to PSN.
i love the PS3 and i'm glad that valve is turning it's head now to the PS3. HL2 is such a great game. so i say let valve to bring their goods to the PS3.
