Valve on why 3rd party will be involved in Left 4 Dead PS3 |
As early as February's GDC 2008, we already knew that Valve Corporation won't be releasing a PlayStation 3 version for the upcoming zombie shooter game Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360, PC). But at least Valve is open to the possibility of a PS3 port. Clarifying their position, Valve's Doug Lombardi shares more of his insights.
Lombardi, the marketing man for Valve Corporation, tells us that it is only natural to create as many versions of a successful video game, citing Half-Life as an example. That is why a PS3 port is possible.
But Valve has maintained in the past that a third party developer may be involved if a PS3 port does happen. Why? Lombardi explains:
We're only 150 people, so there's only so many things we can do. But it's one of those things with partners, wanting to take on that investment and risk. I think until L4D is proven, you'll probably just see what we make in that franchise.
And before anything else, there's a big clincher here. A PlayStation 3 port solely rests on the success of Left 4 Dead. That's a big if. Lombardi believes Left 4 Dead "doesn't have that guaranteed appeal yet," owing to the fact that this is a new IP. More updates here at QJ.NET as we get them.

That's still no excuse. If they'd take the time to learn any of Sony's machines, they could do something on their own. They didn't even port over Half-Life 1 for the PS2; they had Gearbox to do that one. What a shame, really. I still respect Valve since I've been a longtime fan but wow, that is the lamest excuse ever.
I guess if they did develop it, they'd be using even more time and resources and it'd cost them, and they'd lose even more money if the whole game were to flop. I don't really care though, the game pretty much looks like an upgraded version of the Zombie Mod from CS Source.
Wow, now that is a crazy situation for fanboys.
Look at this:
Xbox 360 fanboys say: "woot, we have L4D and you not!"
PS3 fanboys say: "It's a dumb game and it won't sell well!"
But then it will sell crazy, Xbox 360 FBs will say: See, we have a great game and you not! but wait, it's successful, so it means..."
PS3 FBs:"...right, we get the game too, hehe..."
It fully depends on how successful the game is.
PS3 fanboys will face a schizophrenic situation. On the hand, they hope a X360 exclusive suck, on the other hand they hope the game will sell well so they can get their hands on it.
Both Doug Lombardi and Gabe Newell (head haunchos at Valve) are both ex-microsoft employees.
Surprising?
i agree and Gabe Newell is an anti sony we all know that.
but i don't care
..of the Resident Evil Outbreak series. I'd much rather play RE any day over a half-life mod.
I was hoping some fanboys would say valve sucks or something lame like that. Quixand it's not too late.
if this game does suck, then sony fanboys will not care if this game sells well.
the title leads you into thinking that there may be a ps3 L4D. change the title please
A studio that isn't talented enough to know how to make games for the PS3. That's just a waste of potential. Oh well, as guess it's a good thing we have studios like Konami who don't suck and know how to make good games.
