Valve not trying to get better at PS3 |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: Gabe Newell, Geoff Keighley, playstation 3 updates, PlayStation Network, Valve Corporation

The newest episode of GTTV shows, among many others, Valve's first time footage of one of the campaigns for Left 4 Dead 2, called the Fairgrounds. But what is PS3-related about it (although that footage is just as exciting) is Gabe Newell admitting to making no effort to make peace with the PS3.
Geoff Keighley asks: "Are you guys working on PlayStation 3 here now, trying to understand it, trying to get better at it?" To which Gabe Newell replied: "Uh, no. Not in any real way."
And with that, he didn't bother to expound on that simple sentence as well. Not in any real way.

Sooner or later XBox and PC wont be apply to make them as much money as they curently do. And thats when to PS3 outsells the XBox, and then Valve will loose.
I just hate Valve.
I look forward to the day they say "Fu**, we should have learnt more about the PS3 in its easly days, the things people can do with that thing is amazing!"
Then we can all ***** in there face

Notice how Sony has LOYAL exclsuive developers and all Microsoft has is exclusive developers who go multiplatform as soon as the paychecks stop coming in...
Sonys exclsuive develoipers don't need massive paychecks to stay exclusive.

Keep in mind that Valve's own fanbase aren't the least bit happy with them. I'll highlight the main points:
CS:S community has been in a fury since 2006 because Valve refuses to fix any of the major bugs that fans have made countless petitions to, despite the fact that the game still gets 90k-100k players daily. To add more fire to the flame, they released actual updates to CS 1. friggin 6 instead of Source. Also, CS:S community wants it to be updated to the Orange Box source engine to enable multi-core processing.
Day of Defeat: Source community is pissed at the severe lack of recognition and attention the game has gotten.
L4D1 vs. L4D2 communities - the whole expansion pack ideology and whatnot. L4D1 finally is getting new DLC yet it's one map and not what was exactly promised before (stuff like weapons, more campaigns, etc. are all being dumped into L4D2)
Half-Life 2 fans are pissed due to lack of news on Episode Three.
Portal fans want more cake and a game they can beat in an hour as opposed to 20 minutes, so they're pissed at lack of info on Portal 2.
Team Fortress 2 fans pissed at new weapon discovery system, and NarooN is still waiting on the seemingly non-existent Soldier updates.
So as you can see, with all that, and the fact that most Valve employees *do* read the message boards and emails they get, they know of all the hatred and what fans want. Gabe then asked "Which is more important, Portal 2 or Counter-Strike 2".
He said spam his inbox to get one on top priority. Keep in mind by CS2, he means the next actual Counter-Strike since Source is just an update of 1.6 on a new engine and whatnot.
Valve are in a tight spot and don't even know what they wanna do. They're really just focusing on TF2 updates and L4D2. After L4D2 comes out you can be sure to see some Portal 2 or EP3 news.

Unless you're asking them to work on the PS2 as well?
Still, stupid and narrow minded? Not really. They arent being stupid if they'd spend more money developing an alternate kit for a third system that programs entirely differently than the PC and Xbox. It actually saves them a lot of money and dev time, specifically if they are uncertain of their sales numbers.
Self-centered? Well, yes, its a business. thats what they do.

Microsoft
North America - 11.6 million
Worldwide - 30.2 million
Sony
North America - 5.7 million
Worldwide - 23.8 million
Sony kicks the 360s ass in Europe and Japan though. Oddly the UK doesn't count as Europe and counts as itself and the 360s sell more there.

L4D apparently won many awards and game of the year.
So how does valve suck again? Oh right, its not coming to PS3. I guess when valve releases a few games for PS3 valve will not suck anymore. If you think that way then you sir is a fanboy.

1. Because Microsoft creates both Windows and the Xbox.
2. Their is a much larger hardcore Game/Valve fanbase on the Xbox 360.
2. Because it's easy to port a PC game over to the xbox. The PC is their home platform so of course the Xbox version is going to be better than the PS3 version.
You can't expect Valve to bend over backwards for a system/userbase they don't really care about. If you PS3 only users are so butthurt about this, go buy a good PC and stop your crying. If you really cared that much about Valve's games you'd already have a PC.

Valve has not developed a new game that was any good since Half-Life 2......since then they have been trying to drag HL2 out as long as possible with crappy expansions and porting to consoles.
Lot's of people like left 4 dead, lot's do not, so it's hardly game of the year material, just a decent game.
PS3 owners are not missing anything by Valve doing this.
I also find it funny how by answering the question like this, Gabe is admitting they have no idea what they are doing with PS3 and are just too lazy.....

Yes its a delivery system but its one that valve own and run and must be a huge revenue stream for them.
Personally i thought episode 1 and in particly episode 2 were great. althought it is annoying that its taking tehm so dam long to get episode 3 out the door.
They are a great pc developer and im glad i have a pc as well as a ps3.
I really wish that they would take the ps3 more seriously and produce games for it but at the end of the day its there decision.
And i do think that us ps3 owners do miss out with them not on the platform

You may be mad at Valve but you cannot deny the fact that they are a AAA threat in the gaming industry. Especially now when gamesare coming from EA and Ubisoft which have become 3rd rate developers.
Half life, CS, Team fortress, L4D, Portal; all of those have become huge names, and if you call yourself a gamer then you have to recognize Valve for all their achievements.

They broke the ice with the cell. The fact is, the 360 and the PC are so similar, that porting is easier than the PC to the PS3. Simply because of the cores.
And also. Calling valve lazy is stupid. They aren't lazy, they are just one of the many developers who don't have the time, nor money, to try to develop on the PS3. Also, why are you complaining.
Valve games SUCK on the 360. Its nothing you want on your PS3. If you want to play a valve game, play it on the PC. Believe me, its 100000 times better. Especially in the orange box's case. (TF2 on the 360= NO GO)
And all those who say "but look at all those FIRST PARTY GAMES" well that's just it, they are first party. All they need to focus on is the PS3, and therefore, their funds are pretty much made up. Valve may be big, but they can't take a chance like developing on a console they know they can't work on.

Open up Steam and look at how many people play CSS as opposed to 1.6 daily. CSS + 100k every day, and 1.6 is 80-90k.
Face it, kid, Source is still selling copies and has been since it came out. Now stop wasting valuable comment space with your dribble.

Is it short for gabriel? Maybe its why hes so fat. the insecurity and confusion issues he must have through having that name... hence the shorter "gabe"?

Nothing to do with direct x is it.

Microsoft broke the ice with Direct X, which is simply a Visual Runtime. I am not an expert with consoles, so I don't know if the consoles have any internal processing software...
But, the architecture of the 360 and a PC are very alike, which I am not saying they are the same, nor are they EXTREMELY easy to port, because they aren't. It takes months to port a game from a PC to a 360. Its not as easy as changing a line of code...
But, its much simpler than the PS3. Remember, each core handles a different aspect of the system. On the 360 and PC, everything is centralized. So, when porting to the PS3, everything has to be correctly mapped and used.
Which is where most ports go wrong, because the dev's don't know what to do with them. They are confused, and that's the risk sony took. But, its a risk I believe sony HAD to take, for the good of us, and for the good of them.
As time goes on, dev's will eventually begin to understand the cell architecture, and eventually learn it. While this might take a while to do, eventually it will pay off the PS3, and then the next console that sony put's out there.
So yes, this has NOTHING to do with Direct X, other than it is the main platform for all developers. The core is a new thing, and it takes time to learn.
I give kudo's to sony, for taking the risk, and to valve, for knowing what is good for their own company.

hahahahahaha!!!
Even metal gear solid 4 (which was best reason to buy PS3) and Little Big Planet (second good reason to buy PS3) and Heavy Rain (third good reason bo buy PS3) didnt helped sony to outsells the PS3,
Now sony dont even have new really great exclusives like Metal Gear! Metal Gear Rising will be cross-platform and Xbox version surely will look better with more high res textures and have better framerate as most of games do.
Metal Gear Peacewalker will appear on PSP, but not on PS3 and PSP is pretty different sector of market (peoples who preffer xbox to ps3, usualy have PSP, because its best hendheld console so far, microsoft have no portable units yet so... )
And u know what???
There are rumors based on some leaked info that 1 or 2 more Metal Gear Games in production for hendhelds or Wii and exclusively for XBOX 360 and not for PS3!!!!
At several russian sites i have found infromation that there is some game codenamed
"SOMEONE IS SNEAKING" or "SOMETHING IS SNEAKING" also rumored as "METAL GEAR DUALITY" or "METAL GEAR DILOGY" or "%u30E1%u30BF%u30EB%u30AE%u30A2%u4E8C%u91CD%u6027" in japanesse is in production for Xbox 360, PC and some handheld as psp or iphone.

There are some leaked arts that clues that game main Character IS GRAY FOX HIMSELF!
Also another clues gives idea that its something like Remake of original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake from MSX but with alternative point of view by GRAY FOX - this remind me Half Life Blue shif by valve + same black mesa but now we play Barny and not Freeman, so i really believe this one is metal gear one and metal gear two.
It also rumored as MGS 5 by some peoples!
There are also some arts with ! and ? that have hidden logo of Xbox 360 and gray background looks like xbox 360, so i think PS3 will never get this game.
With not exclusive Metal Gear PS3 have no chances to outsell Xbox 360.
QJ should post some NEWs about this rumor btw.

1.6 was great. Amazing at best. Source, is essentially the same game, for the old school graphics whores.
I admit, I play source more than 1.6 just because more people play it.
But I enjoy loading up 1.6 more than loading up source simply because of the enjoyment it causes.
