Valve: Left 4 Dead not in production for PS3

Left 4 Dead - Image 1A rumor has circulated over the weekend that the PlayStation 3 could be on its way to landing Valve Corporation's zombie-infested shooter Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360, PC). This has now been proven false by the devs themselves as Doug Lombardi said that there's nothing of the sort currently in production.

"Left 4 Dead doesn't have that guaranteed appeal yet - it's a new IP," said Lombardi. "If you mention a new Half-Life, people want to make as many versions of it as possible. If Left 4 Dead is big, then we may see a PS3 version later, or if and when we do a sequel, people may be more interested in that."

Valve has had quite a history of giving the PS3 the cold shoulder. Ace developer was once quoted saying that the console is "a waste of everybody's time."

Lombardi, too, has been quoted affirming this mindset for the console. He was quoted earlier saying that their company develops for the Xbox 360 and the PC. He added that the main reason why The Orange Box was released for the PS3 is because EA came to them and said
"Wow, Orange Box was an incredible project, can we do a PS3 version?"

The result? The Orange Box for the PS3 suffered from a barrage of technical issues that infuriated thousands of users, fueling flames and petitions all over the web. If you ask me, Left 4 Dead is better off left in the cold if it'll come DOA to the PS3 like The Orange Box.

Wow Doug.

EA didn't come to them. Valve started work on it and quit, and they asked EA UK to do it since EA distributes a lot of Valve's games.

I have COMPLETELY lost respect for valve.

COMPLETELY. All the other devs are getting used too the PS3 and learning it. BUT no. Valve has to use the SAME old engine The SAME old console The SAME old team. They are not changing! Maybe they should develop a NEW engine that is easy to use on ALL consoles AND PC. and their Ace designer? He is the biggest jackass ever. he is focused on just HIS games and his opinion. Not the consumers opinion. thats why i RESPECT Square enix. They THOUGHT about money and the CONSUMER and decided to go multiplatform. they new people wouldnt be happy. But they also knew that a LOT of other people would be happy to get to play FF13. Valve you can rot in hell if you don't decide to listen to the CONSUMERS.

ahoy

maybe someone should leave a box full of pirated copies for the pc left in front of your local gamestop and bestbuy.

I only agree with half of that. I don't respect Valve but I certainly don't respect Square-Enix especially since every game they put out has sucked. I liked Squaresoft but Square-Enix just seemed to ***** everything up. There hasn't even been a good FF game since the PS1 so FFXIII will obviously end up sucking as well. Square-Enix DOESN'T listen to the consumer either otherwise we would've had a FF7 remake by now and tons of other *****. Square-Enix doesn't give a damn about you. They just want your money. They are more money grubbing whores than Capcom & Rockstar put together. The Final Fantasy has been turned to ***** with the same regurgitated crap being pushed out every few years. Square-Enix fails just as much as Valve. I'm STILL waiting for a "good" RPG to come out for this gen but it looks like that won't be happening until Atlus makes something for the PS3. And to get back on topic. I think Left 4 Dead will end up on the PS3 with EA porting it. It doesn't matter what Valve says as we all know they are as much as Square-Enix now. It doesn't really matter though cause from the videos Left 4 Dead sucks.

whatever

Looks like Valve don't care about PowerPC powered chipset. Anyway, the Xbox360 has a big user-base anyway. I'll play on my PC, as I only have a Wii/DS right now.

This is fanboyism to an extreme level...

How can you call Valve a *****ty company? Aside from using crappy Steam server for distributing games online they have made many great games and they desrve respect. The have made Half Life 1 and 2, Portal, Counter Strike, and Team fortress all +9/10 titles and you bash them becuz of a decision not to bring the game to PS3? Hey I'm dissappointed, especially since this game looks to have potential but don't bash on them, they work hard on their games and they thought it was not worth bringing it to the PS3 becuz it wouldn't have good revenues on the system.

yep.

I started playing Valve's games sometime back in 2005, but wow, the Source engine isn't that great. First off, it has a lot of compatibility issues with other OS, and will randomly run like crap even if your PC meets the requirements and shoots the requirements in the face. The engine just can't make it forever. Valve is too stubborn now, Gabe is an absolute idiot, and I too have lost much respect for them as a whole. It takes them forever just to release one damn game. It could be a small expansion pack and it takes them 3 years to make it. It's just ridiculous. Left 4 Dead barely even looks like a next gen game. The Source engine has tons of modern effects and tech in it, but it doesn't show on any of the models or textures or anything. The only Valve games I have interest in are TF2, HL2 Ep 3, and Portal 2. And going by what they said, the latter two will make it to the PS3 anyway, since they are two "big IPs" and must be released on whichever consoles/platforms possible.

Valve needs to take a risk!

If they'd release a PS3 version of Left4Dead I'd buy it, instead of releasing it on the 360 so everyone can just steal it off the internet then go ahead. I've been reading some articles here saying that allot of the game producers that release on the ps3 they're revenue is going up because I "can't" steal PS3 games. So if Valve doesn't want to release a PS3 version that's their loss. By the way I love Valve games and have every single Half Life game, so if they don't release to the PS3 I'd still buy the PC version :)

Oh Yeah!

Yes thank you Valve for supporting the easy to program for console! Pay attention boys this is what happens when you own your own company; you get to call your own shots! Thank you Gabe Newell, thank you for your loyalty.
by anhero - 2008-08-07 21:57:59
yeah...

it's true they should take a risk, especially since the PS3 game market is improving, but we also ust consider how they confident they feel, if they're unlucky they might lose money, after all te hard work of porting the game. Anyways, if the game does well on the 360 theres a chance it might be ported, if not i'll buy it on pc (and we all know how half-life games have been better on PC).

fanboyism

Ahem... Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS3 only is a sign of loyalty and wise use of graphical power. It also display's Kojima's wisdom in picking a console to work on. Left 4 Dead on 360 is a sign of retarded bias and fanboyism. It also display's Newell's stupidity in picking a console to work on. If I really want to play MGS4, I have to buy a PS3. If I really want to play Left 4 Dead, I have to buy a 360 (or play it on PC).
