Valve and PS3 - somewhere down the road

ps3Back in July, Valve PR exec Doug Lombardi revealed that they're still open to developing games for the PS3. It's been more than half a year, and it appears that the publisher got just a bit closer to the idea. This time, it's Chet Faliszek talking about that possibility, and it's a little bit more encouraging for PS3 owners.

"Before we do anything on the PS3 we need to be able to support it in the right way," Faliszek told Edge. ""But we'll look at it, and I'm sure down the road we'll do it".

No promises or anything, but it appears that their managing director's opinion of the PS3 won't be in the way of things. Hopefully.

He probably means they'll have to start learning how to do something different for a change

who knows, if they learn how to make ps3 games their games might actually start seeming like something other than half life mods
learning something new always helps with inspiration after all.

I'd be happy to see Counter Strike Source HD in PS3, not likely to go Xbox 360 from what I read in this article.

so when the ps4 is about to come out they'll release left 4 dead (original) for the ps3 :P But in all seriousness unless microsoft is paying them for exclusives, they are leaving money on the table by not releasing their games for the ps3 as well.

The thing with Valve is that it's swimming in money thanks to Steam, and the PS3's architecture is a time cost they simply don't want to deal with. The 360 is attractive because it's DX-based.

Exactly. They are lazy. If a development studio can't figure out the Cell Architecture within a 5-6 year timeline, I wouldn't hold my breath on anything superb coming to the PS3 via Valve. The devs are trained in PC architecture which is fine for the 360, but Valve won't spend money on training for the future. So when most home PCs have Cell architecture we will finally see Valve disappear as an archaic dev studio, who were good back in 1999, but were left in the dust by progress. Similar to Sega when they made crap consoles.

Not all Sega consoles were crap.

Sega Mega Drive/Genesis - Great!

Sega Mega CD/Sega CD - bad (Sonic CD to the rescue)

Sega Saturn - Fine system

Sega Dreamcast - Awesome!

You actually expect the Cell to move over to anything else beyond the PS3 and a handful of servers? Keep dreaming. Cell is too expensive and unnecessarily complicated for mainstream computing use. Valve will be fine and you just sound like a bitter fanboy.

I actually think, cheekybugger never had or played on a Sega console to say they're a bunch of trash.

I love my PS3 and use it every day, but prefer much more to get Valve games on the PC. There's just so much stuff Valve allows you to do with their games on the PC.

Maybe they can start learning how to support the system by creating an update to Team Fortress. Polish it up and bring some updates. Use this time to learn how to work on the ps3.

Its valve guys come on. They make killer games and every game they make is PERFECTLY FUN. So when they say "the right way" all the mean is they won't make a game till they feel 100% confident they can use the PS3 the way its meant to be used. Once there coding skills are up to par, expect some killer games like that of Uncharted 2 to come out.
