Unreal Tournament 3 - Image 1

Here's some good news for all of you hardcore mouse-and-keyboard FPS purists out there who just happen to have a PS3. According to GameSpy's Gabe Graziani, the PS3 version of Epic Games' Unreal Tournament 3 will support both input devices through the USB ports on the PS3's front.

The SIXAXIS will also offer tilt-sensing controls, of course. You can use the SIXAXIS controller's motion sensing features to control where you look. Graziani says that while the SIXAXIS feature was not available yet during his playthrough, a Sony rep said that "it was actually very accurate once you got the hang of it." Here's more from Graziani regarding the controls in Unreal Tournament 3:

This demo had the weapon swap set to the R1 shoulder button, with the R2 and L2 triggers functioning as primary and secondary fire. The helpful Sony rep standing nearby mentioned that the L1 button would eventually function as a sort of weapon menu and, if held down, would open a radial smorgasbord of firearms that could be selected with the left analog stick.

Unreal Tournament 3 is slated for a U.S. release sometime in September and will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

» Bad Idea very bad idea

Stupid Keyboard and mouse, will turn this game into a farce, People using the Joypad will argue that they have a disadvantage over the keyboard and mouse etc and it will turn into a shamble.(no one wants to have to put a keyboard and mouse in their main living room it looks hideous).

It should be limited to the pad to keep an EQUAL playing field for everyone.

» Is it confirmed

there won't separate modes for gamepad and keyboard?

Seems like it would be pretty simple to match games based on configuration. No?

This might also confirm that the PS3 version will be able to connect and play with the PC version as well.

As this levels the playing field for console users. This might also be more of an incentive to buy a PS3 to play UT3. Not everyone is going to go out and spend over $1000 to upgrade a PC if they can play UT3 in 720p on the PS3 with a keyboard and mouse against PC users.

I think that the whole KB/M feature is for multi-platform interaction. They will probably have a feature to limit PS3 games to use of the SIXAXIS, KB/M or allow both.

They are using the same weapon selection system of Resistance FOM.

» Unfair?

They have keyboard and mouse converters for the ps2 and the xbox. Have you ever noticed the difference playing halo 2? some people are using keyboards and mouse right now are they ruining that game? probably not,so why would you notice it now?

» eh

I guess you're forgetting about server options if you don't want to play with keyboard and mouse support go to a lobby with the support off its really easy actually

» Converters...

I've seen reviews of them and they are very crappy, with upto one second of lag between the time you move and it's response. You have to think it's a box that hase to take a split second to recognize your command, convert it, then send it out.....they are crap.

Honestly, i've played both PC + Console FPS's to death, and I thik in the upper brackets of competition it would be about equal. KB+M is only really good for sniping and tracking your enemies, whereas a controller allows for better movement and is MUCH easier to dance around a person and keep your cursor on him as you move around him.

In UT3 it's more of a fast paced game where your mobility and ability to aim while jumping and moving is crucial, and I think if anyone might have the advantage, it could be controller users....especially in vehicles.

To circumvent whining I am very sure that Epic will make it a server option...or if it isn't a patch will be issued right away.....because regardless of the results, noobs always whine...

» why complain?

If you really do not like it, or you think you are at a disadvantage, why not just buy a keyboard and mouse for yourself? It's not expensive, and you can use it for other PS3 stuff if you want too.

» great

i hope all game companies follow suit.

mouse and key does more justice to FPS and RTS games.

about the disadvantage thinggy, like antaeus said, its just a matter of server rules your gonna play with. mouse and keyb's should play with mouse and kyb's, sixaxis users play with co-sixaxis users, and third is the all out battle of supremacy no control rules.

please dont make this an issue. you are only adding to the bad publicity ps3 has this past few months. be thankful, its a great feature. how i wish resistance also does keyboard and mouse!

» Keyboard and mouse LOL PC all over again

LOL a keyboard and Mouse in the Main living room !! rather defeats the point of having a console in that room and it may as well be hidden in another room like the PC because it will look just as ugly.

Not true I already have a wireless keyboard + mouse in my living room for my PS3 and it actually ads to the high tech look of all the electronics I have sitting on my entertainment center.
