*Update* US 1.50 firmware update fixes display annoyances |
Ó
In our previous post on the Japanese release of PS3 FW1.5, Robert Kelly asked, "What good is playing PS2 and PS1 games if they look as blurry and fuzzy as news reel footage from 1945? " Well Robert, Sony took the hint, so guess what the US 1.50 firmware update has?Word from Kotaku is the latest PS3 firmware update has finally fixed the the graphical problems present when playing backwards-compatible PS1 and PS2 games. They've noted that Okami and MGS3 are working perfectly, and with the appropriate pretty pictures too, so we're hoping the their graphically intensive games will finally get the respect they deserve.
Of course, there's still no changelog, so you'll just have to update your PS3s and then check to see if your older games work perfectly on your new-gen console. For now, we'll leave you with one question: Why does the System Update icon look like the sign for recycling?
UPDATE:
PSP767 commented on the post with a changelog for the update. Thank you for that! Funny how it doesn't mention that graphical issue thing though, but oh well. Here's the changelog:
- User can now set an image/photo (off a mem stick etc) for their user id
- Edy support added (for payment via card reader)
- 'operation sound' added to sound settings
- 'delete backup data' added to backup utilities subsetting
- WEP128, WPA-PSK (TKIP), WPA-PSK(AES) can now utilize AOSS
- Can now remember your login password without using automatic login
- Korean keyboard setting can be used

Sony cant do anything in the firmware to change it. The PS3 has HDCP because in the future, all displays will have to support it. Its starting with 1080p right now but eventually HDCP, or a version of it, will be on every resolution.
Too bad your computer monitor wont be able to playback 1080p content unless you hack it. Right now, the only way to get 1080p from a Blu-ray Drive or HD DVD drive is to have a HDCP compatible drive, which they all are. A HDCP compatible Video card and barely anyone has it and only the newest 8 series Nvidia and New ATi cards are HDCP compatible. Last is a HDCP display.
So if you cant get you display to work now. Then in the future, if you expect to be able to buy a Blu-ray Drive or HD DVD drive and pop in a movie and play it back easily in 1080p, then your mistaken if you dont have HDCP.

******alot of ppl are confused******
if you connect your ps3 via HDMI-DVI to your monitor more than likely it wont work. that is because the standard definition of the ps3 is 480i .something your monitor does not support. what you have to do is connect the ps3 HDMI-DVI then when the ps3 is off hold the power button on until you hear a beep ( 3-4 seconds after you hold the button). then turn on your monitor. this enables the auto resolution feature thus allowing you to play on your lcd.
i have 2 20'' inch lcds one is not HDCP and one is.the difference between 1080p and 720p on a LCD that is not native 1900x1200 its not that big. point is that just because your monitor is not HDCP enable it doesnt mean you cant play at all . all it means is that it wont play at 1080p.

Didn't Ken "Dumbass" Kutaragi compare the cell to the internet, saying
"If processors of high performance and wide bandwidth like the Cell were linked together without sufficient security, a worldwide system crash could occur with one attack."?
The PS3 is vulnerable.
The PSP's security was hacked within months.

Disconnecting and connecting the headset while in-game always use to cause the controller to disconnect/freeze for a second or so...now it doesn't. There is no freezing while connecting the headset in-game or even at the gameOS at all - which is a great thing.

So when HD-DVD movies are copy protected you'll need to buy a new HD-DVD player to play some actual high definition. Stop *****ing trolling and go back to the 360 section
