Just in case we caught you snoozing on firmware watch, here's an update: firmware 1.93 for the PlayStation 3 has gone live in Japan and basically everywhere else (read: North America and Europe).
According to a blog post by PSN Operations Director Eric Lempel (yesterday), the PS3 update will be bringing about a fix for the "network disconnect" issue that plagued some players after 1.92. PSP owners, on the other hand, will be getting new features as requested. Lempel didn't really go into much detail as to what the changes would be, though we really didn't have to wait that long for the back-to-back firmware updates to make their rounds.
We'll get back to you with the changelog, among other details so stay tuned (plus news on the PSP FW update as well).

*UPDATE* Just as promised, the PlayStation 3 firmware update was a fix for the network issues experienced by a lot of players. We've got the changelog from the official PlayStation website for Japan and well, it contains a single line:

Thought i'd mention that this should probably be in the PS3 blog, not PSP. just checked the PS3 blog and it isn't there. :)
i just downloaded 1.92 barely a week ago... it's ok to get updates constantly but not like this... i don't like the planning that they're putting into this...
i'm dreading the day that my PS3 bricks because of one small firmware update mistake... and the more updates they throw around the bigger the chance that one of this minor firmware updates does something unexpected.
some many people need this update dude.. personally I never had the connections problems but yes many people... the update 190 to 192 is the one who needed to wait to 2.0... anyway I don't have problems update it... what I like they do in the updates that tell everyone what are we update it
some people do need this update... anyway there's nothing you can do anyway if you want to go online you have to update regardless if you need the update or not...
i can't really say "i'll just wait for 2.00 and then update" cause your hands are tied, you want to go online then you need to update no matter how small the new firmware is...
i always wait a while anyway before updating and take time to read comments and updates on gamesites... and if things look ok with the new firmware then that's when i update.
I just tried twice to update to 1.93 and it keeps stopping at 4% and then an error comes up. "A connection to the server cannot be established."

I updated this morning, downloaded without a problem. I don`t notice any change on my PS3, but then I didn`t have any connection problem
btw, I just downloaded the new PSP firmware 3.71 aswell. (I'm living in Germany, in case it's not online for you yet...)

This has happened to me once in the past. Try shutting down your PS3 and restarting again. Then try to download the update.

after that shot your brains for not learning that any sony FW can work on any region
