Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom was first revealed to the world back in March, to a collective, "meh." The game is an evolution of the hack n' slash franchise originally born on the PSP when that launched, with Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade, and is set to be a launch title this November for Sony's new piece of kit.

Not a whole lot is known about the story at this point except that it centers around an evil king attempting to brainwash his citizens (that happens even today!). You play the role of either a mage, a scout or a warrior (pictured in the screens) who is a member of the Dragon Shade, a sort of royal guard, on a mission to quell a recently sparked barbarian uprising. It soon comes to your attention however, that the uprising was started by the king himself, and that he is torturing and brainwashing his own subjects. Naturally you take it upon yourself to confront the king and attempt to dethrone him, each character has their own reasons for doing so and goes about it in a different manner, adding to the replay value.

As you can see from the screens pictured the game's come along way since its debut in March, and it's even progressed quite a bit since I got my hands on it at E3 this year. The team at Sony Online Entertainment has apparently just recently started parceling out the game's processing duties to the various SPU's on the CELL processor, so we can expect some more dramatic changes along the line. Sound and special effects are currently in an embryonic state, but the team still has a couple of months to tighten the belt further.

What usually makes or breaks these kinds of games is the multiplayer aspect, and SOE isn't looking to disappoint. In addition to deathmatch, last man standing and capture the flag modes, the game offers support for up to four players online to play through the game's story mode co-operatively. There is no split screen support, but two players can play co-op on one console and team up with two others online. Let's hope this trend of improvement continues at such a rapid pace, who knows, perhaps the PS3 will launch with a decent RPG after all.

This game is shaping up pretty nicely since the last time i saw it. This game looks very good for a team that has only made games for PSP. Now they are taking a huge leap in dev. for PS3. Which is pretty amazing that a team that has never worked with a console before to give those types of graphics. Im not getting this game though its not my style. They still have 6 more months to complete this game so i think there is still room for improvement.

SOE also worked on Everquest, Everquest 2, Star Wars: Galaxies and Planetside to name a few. Those were all on the PC though. I agree it's come leaps and bounds since it was first shown, just click the first text link to see how far!

This game looks outdated already... and you know it'll just be more hack and slash that you'll get bored of it 1/2 an hour anyway.

What a terrible article.

If any of you want any actual information, make sure you read the IGN article. It's got a LOT of info in it, and I can't imagine why none of that was mentioned here.

Even more perplexing is why this article is about the screenshots, and not the 2 hi-res videos...
