Unreal Tournament fever: Epic spills modding hitches, 4-player co-op, UE4 |
Ó
Heads up: we've got Unreal Tournament 3 juiciness for the UT-bot (be it Xbox 360, Windows PC or PlayStation 3) in you. Epic Games hinted features that would apply to the Unreal Tournament modding community and all UT3 gamers, but not all of them are good news. In addition, we have learned that Epic has already started out on Unreal Engine 4, reinforcing fan dreams that Unreal Tournament 4 can be expected in the far future.
But let's snap back to the present first. Epic seems to have implemented the cross-platform mod idea with a certain hitch. Unlike the usual chore of simply saving your modification, you've now got to specify if you want it saved in PC format or the PlayStation 3 format. Yikes. Double the tasks, double the uploads, and double the hosting space.
It appears that this became a necessity, because the PS3 packaged version is automatically formatted for Unreal Tournament 3 on the PS3. Proper formatting assures that all required files are automatically saved in their proper directories in the PS3 drive, and there seems to be no way around it. This should stand as a warning to the veteran modders out there.
But there's good news: the revamped campaign mode will allow any UT3 player (as we reckon, meaning Xbox 360, PS3, and PC players alike) to have three other pals take control of the remaining members of the four-man team. As revealed before, UT3's campaign mode is a lot deeper in story and isn't a training mode anymore. So there's actually some goals to achieve, and if it wasn't apparent in the trailer, you're supposed to be kicking Necris ass.
In a final note, code was spotted laying around in Tim Sweeney's office. It was later revealed that the scribbles found on a giant pad in the office was actually the code for Unreal Engine 4.

I can't see why they just say: PS3 will get this compared to PC and blablabla without saying anything about the xbox360. Will the x360 version of the game lack any kind of mods because it's hosted by M$?
yeah no mods for 360, its quite lame, cuase it would have to go through M$, plus 'not everyone has a hawdwive :( :( :(" cry me a f****** river, if u want mods but a f****** drive, but they cant get through ms anyways, its lame, but the modders wil stick with the pc version mostly anyways, im just happy bout co op that makes this game 3x as fun for me now! i can do without the mods i guess
they have stated a lot of times that they want to focus right now on the PC and PS3 version(which got delayed) and then go full force with the 360 version
even if they "stick" with the pc version those mods are fully compatible with the ps3 version. They are both using the same engine and mods utilize the engine they are made for so there for it would run through the ps3's unreal 3 engine and work just as well as Unreal for the ps3.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't the other problem with having mods on the 360 to do with Xbox Live - and the fact that its not as "open" to developers as the Playstation network is. Thus, making it harder for people to share their mods with the community.
